Movies have influenced me as a filmmaker and had an impact on the person that I am but today I want to focus on the ones that influenced me in the recent years and changed the way I shoot and the ones that made me a better shooter and hopefully you also take something out of it too.
This is not an essay or a cinematography breakdown but more what I like about them wether it is their composition, style and movements, and why I keep coming back to them for inspiration.
Let me know if you have any questions in the comments and let me know in the comments what are your favourite movies to find inspiration :).

I love that you show these inspirations. Of course, it's very personal what one feels that really connect to oneself, It's on a higher awareness level but when a film manages to do that well for me that's what I hope a film shall do and Arrival does that. Thanks for the tip on McBeth!

Great list... Thanks. Here are a couple of notworthy choices imo:
    - Terrence Malik's movies have some nice handheld and wide angle cinematography... In particular Song to Song (2017) and Tree of Life (2011). Immersive in the sense that it puts you inside the drama
    - Blade Runner (1982)... Lots of heavily stylised mood and atmosphere
    - The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)... Stunning movie, shot by Roger Deakins. Some stylised visuals for dramatic scenes, but then naturalistic lighting for most of the rest of the movie, but somehow seamless transitions between the two
    - The Good Shepard (2006)... Lots of moody/darker compositions fitting with the spy theme. Silhouettes, chiaroscuro, half hidden faces/eyes, but done in a way that draws you inside to the movie
    - There Will Be Blood (2007)... Excellent lighting and compositions, as well as how the shots move from one compositions to another as they did with classic movies instead of being wide, over the shoulder and then close ups... Very cinematic and helps with immersion.
I'll post a separate list of older movies later... Some great cinematography in the black and white days...

I bought the Blu-ray of Macbeth solely based on this video. After movies like EX Machina, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049 or even Prometheus I gained such an appreciation for Cinematography, that sometimes, when I watch a movie the second time or more, I ignore the plot and just look at and analyze the colors, lighting, contrasts, camera angles or color palette.
