@@GodOfFools he made some mistakes in a previous routine that dropped them to 4th. you could read Aljona's lips and see she asked if he messed up the jump (not in this video, but video of the routine he messed up in), so she knew and was pretty upset. So this routine he brought 200% and made it all up to her.

So is he. But it's clear how nervous he must have been, how thankful he is to her, how proud she is of him and how much this means to him.

I literally got shivers all over my body. No doubt that she's the queen of her art. But Bruno was the one in the zone, completely in the moment, in a state of ecstasy overwhelming with emotions. He is the one that elevated her to the next level with his incredible strength and fluidity. I think she's the one that's grateful.

This is THE BEST all time pairs free skate I have ever seen. They have so many unique elements, and that final lift sequence where somehow it looks like he is not even holding her, and the crowd gasps at something like that they have never seen before...unless of course, you saw them performing this program in the Grand Prix and other events. It's just stunning. Extremely well deserved. And all the other pairs programs years later pale in comparison.

Imagine how proud they are of each other and themselves
This was her 5th time at Olympia, winning two bronze medals before. But she said she couldnโt stop or retire without winning gold. She was so sad about the bronze medals that she said she couldnโt look at them and kept them in the basement. The saddest part was, that it was always her partners โfaultโ and never her who made a mistake. So her winning gold was really her dream come true and the result of 30 years of hard work.

It is a performance for the books. If there is an Olympic Hall of Fame, Aliona should be one of the first inductees, and not just for her gold medal. She is an Olympic legend.
Best routine EVER, seamless, flawless, exquisitively choreographed. Hypnotic music, sheer perfection. Absolutely mind-blowing! This is exactly what pair skating is all about. Just try to figure out what it must have meant to Aliona... Never have I been so proud of two complete strangers!

Not nobody. I read several comments here on the magnificence of her landings. Bruno gets mentioned frequently because he makes Aljona entirely weightless in his hands, among many other reasons. She is still the focal point for sure, but, when compared to other men, Bruno does a better job making his partner look amazing. The guy is a mensch among his less-studly peers.
Despite being past her prime and never having won more than Olympic bronze in her attempts dating back to 2002, Aljona won the gold with this performance in immense part because of her partner. They smashed the records in points, which was incredible considering this was her first Olympic win so late in her career (aged 34). All of this points heavily to Bruno.

If there is a routine to describe Paired Ice Skating this is it . This routine was absolutely flawless , no other word can describe it . Everything was perfection . Starting with the music , the wardrobe which suits exceptionally with the PyeongChang decor , the mid celebration when she realised she landed one of the hardest jumps in history โฆ I watch this every year , I am 23 and I still cry like a child when I see it .There is no other gold medal in Olympic Games more well deserved then this one . Sheer perfection.

@Burnt Orange The use of one piece of music that gradually builds and builds, as well as quickening in tempo is another similarity, in addition to the ones you mentioned. They are two highly individual programmes and the connections between them are subtle yet undeniable.
Will always remember this โฆ my wife and I were there to watch it live, and this performance was incomparable. I had no idea it was a world record score till watching it just now! Feel very honored to have been there to see it.

Emotional performance from beginning to end that got the crowd so involved. My favorite moment was their team at 4:06 kinda doing the choreo moves and gestures along with them, honestly it got me choked up. It sums up all the joint effort by all of them, seeing their support and excitement, it was their victory too. What a beautiful gold worthy moment ๐๐๐ฅ

Their performance at the WM 2018 was even better. Here, their performance at the Winter Olympics had a few (more) little mistakes like the lack of synchro at 8:10 f. ^^
What is so amazing about this program is that the front part of the program is loaded with the risk elements. They did all their hard stuff by 1:45 but still had the rest of the program to sell, and sell they did. Brilliant choreography and element placement to the crescendos of the music. In my opinion the greatest Olympic pairs freeskate of all time.

As a former ballet dancer, I can confirm that that part is as hard as the technical stuff. Their physical chemistry and attention to each other's movements is truly amazing.
Yes, anyone who is moderately athletic can tell how incredibly superhuman this routine was. The man lifted her multiple times, sometimes with one arm. She maintained proper form and kept up with his speed. Breathtaking. Pushes the boundaries of human physical limitations.

This was the perfect performance. Pace, tempo, skills, music, but most of all elegant dancing and the emotion. Just so so so beautiful. massot is among the better throwers in this competition. all the other guys look like they're hauling something that weighs a ton during throws (stops, so much lurching and heaving), whereas massot has very good form in his throws. very minimal lurching and heaving, and hardly ever stopping while throwing. that requires a lot of skill and coordination between the two. massot's throwing form is almost similar to the legendary grinkov's

Following the Olympics in one of TSL Skating Lesson interviews aired with the Canadian Olympic bronze medal Meagan Dunhamel; that was also the General consensus i.e. Bruno' incredible strength.

Itโs actually an amazing story. She had been to 3 Olympic Games before this one in 2018... once she didnโt place on the podium, then in 2010 and 2014 she got bronze. She chased the gold for 16 years and finally won it with Massot in 2018. It makes me tear up too!

This was one of those performances that makes the Olympics such a powerful display of human potential. The artistry and athleticism portrayed in this routine still blows me away to this day. One of the greatest pairs skating performances ever.

They make people forget for a few minutes that we are on Earth with it's massive gravity, it's physics laws and everything that can wreck havoc if things went a little unbalanced. They were almost weightless and flying in there.

they did it hundreds of times, so the chance of failures is pretty small, but there are still one

After hearing the "experts" talking about Aljona in such a patronizing way early on in these Olympics (Like, "Aw look, she's over 30 and won't stop trying, isn't that cute?"), I found myself rooting with all my heart for this pair come through with something brilliant. And this was not only the most breathtaking pairs performance I can ever remember witnessing, it was BY FAR the most satisfying win!

We have this notion in our society that if you don't """"make it"""" by thirty, you won't ever make it at all. 34 years old is just right to win a gold medal, and I'm seriously moved by how graceful and in sync with each other they are. They definitely deserved the gold.
Agree 100%. Commentators were almost ridiculing her for getting herself a new boy and insist on achieving her dream. She rendered them and everyone else speechless. Never laugh of a talented, determined woman with a dream.
They got the highest marks ever, broke every record in the history of figure skating and deserved it. The technical merit was extremely high, the artistic performance breathtaking, the grace of Aljona magic and the synchronicity astounding. A magic moment with the well deserved gold medal.

It's remarkable how well Bruno is able to calibrate moment to moment when they're moving at different speeds when he only has a fraction of a second to look at her while they're spinning. I noticed it a few times and he managed to ALWAYS make sure his movement stopped at the same time as hers. Insane really to have that kind of accuracy and to be in the moment that intensely

Their opening pose alone shows such artistry. They have the musicality of the best ballet dancers.
When they appeared on the ice, it was a hopeless case. They needed a miracle to win the gold medal and what happens here is really breathtaking. A flawless performance with the highest notes ever given in the history of pairs free skating. It was so well-deserved.

Sui/Han were known to usually put up a strong free skate, but that day they made mistakes, Tarasova/Morozov (2nd after short program) made mistakes, but Aljona and Bruno skated perfect and all that combined allowed them to win the gold.
@Paul Pulke not true. The 2018 Worlds were held AFTER the Olympics. In 2017 they got the Second Place, plus presented a different Free Program. Therefore, they didn't came out as current World Champions that year.
Yea, it's a shame Sui/Han didn't win the gold medal (they've been through so much and their ascent to world champion is an inspiring story in itself), but on this day they lost to a perfect performance.

It's the most beautiful performance I've ever seen in my life, I always look at it again. They glide on the ice, I love Bruno's strength and at the same time the delicacy of his gestures, Aljona is impressive, she floats. They are amazing!!!
This is the greatest pairs free skating program ever, and it will always be my favorite, I said immediately as I watched it. I have seen a lot of pairs free skating programs throughout the years, but I always have a very special place in my heart for this pair. I believe that the movement and music to be so synchronized that it makes me feel really emotional watching it.The music feels as if it was specially composed for Aljona and Bruno's Olympic final program. The music contains every emotion as it has peaceful, exciting, passionate, sad and strong melodies. In short, it is magnificent... I am sure this excites even those who watch it for the first time. They had been deserving of the gold medal at all times. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this program. All that remains for ice skating enthusiasts like us is to honor and these magnificent programs with respect.๐๐

Thatโs one of the amazing things about figure skating! Itโs such a hard and physically demanding sport, but they also have to make it look graceful and elegant.... so incredible

All skaters can do this, it's not extraordinary. *I'm talking about memorizing their routines, not imitating the performance. This performance will NEVER be replicated.
Honestly Iโm pretty sure after the 50th practice session, itโs 90% muscle memory. But the discipline is just astounding

not to be THAT person but after tons of practice itโs basically muscle memory I bet they donโt even have to think about what to do next their body does it subconsciously
