Ten-year-old Greg Smith is amazing, not just because he's a genius but also because he wants to use his genius to help all of mankind all over the world! Genetics (intelligence of the parents) influence IQ, as well as the environment a child grows up in....
We've proven we can make kids "geniuses" in certain subjects by starting early and promoting the subject over and over....but natural overall genius is more spontaneous and just how their brain is wired.
About 1 in 400 individuals are what we would classify as geniuses.
It's an age old question, do we all have the potential to become geniuses? While we could all possibly stretch our IQ a bit further, the answer is probably not. Some kids are just born unique in this way. It's the same as athletic talent, we can all train to get better, but most of us aren't going to the Olympics.

I adore this kid! What an amazing, deep, philosophical, sweet young man. He is so well-rounded! Most geniuses are enthralled with one particular subject or area of focus. However, he has a broad range of interests…he is spot on when he said that his parents “facilitated [his] needs.” Kudos to his parents for doing so while simultaneously making sure he isn’t being restrained from reaching his potential. That must be a difficult balance to achieve.
