Recently watched Top Gun (1986) for the first time and it held up quite well. The acting and chemistry between actors are top notch - especially between Tom and Kelly. The opening scene larger than life, the ending magical.
Do we need to watch Top Gun to understand this?

F-14 Tomcat is back for RC fanatics - Fan film trailer
In a clearing they spot an enemy airbase with multiple unattended enemy fighter jets including one reconditioned F-14 Tomcat. They hijack the stray F-14 to try to return to the carrier, but are quickly picked up on radar by two enemy jets while in the air. Maverick is able to engage and defeats them. Now out of ammunition, they are discovered by a third enemy jet who closes in on them before it is destroyed by Hangman who returned after noticing they were not returning with the other jets after the completion of the bombing mission. They form up in the air and head back to the carrier. Upon arriving to the carrier, the pilots celebrate the return of Maverick and the other pilots.

I really don't like Tom Cruise but I enjoyed quite a few of his movies. Risky Business, A Few Good Men, Cocktail, The Firm and of course Top Gun. I will go see this movie for nostalgic purposes. as far as big shot tiny Tom Cruise goes he can take his pretentious, Scientologist ways and take a hike.

the movie is great, but the enemy section was disaster, they go to enemy base which surprisingly have no barrier and wall around, and see the runway and F14, they see the soldiers moving around and running around, but the first standard action in any airbase after bombardment by enemy is sending units to move undamaged aircraft to safe area,
but again these two gentleman just run all the way without raising anybody's suspicious with their totally different cloths and fueled the aircraft, and again surprisingly with that highly secret airfield there was no one to see and ask what are u doing!!
beside that they already destroyed the runway and the purpose of that the enemy can not take off the planes, so again surprisingly while the all enemy units was running like idiots, they could take off in such runway!!!,
the more interesting things that the airplane was already loaded with missile, while except the scramble one, all weapons are load just before take off,
the bottom line is that the enemy was stupid and idiots without any preparation for such attack in highly secret and full protected area!!!
and the final shot was just stupid,
even the most oldest fighter jets have indicators which shows missile incoming, so how that highly capable 5th generation fighter just didn't have such simple alarms??
Tom plays Maverick, a "Top" gun in the movie, which is interesting, because I always figured that he was more of a "Bottom".
He is getting a bit old to play this person now
