5. Be specific with your focus (Don’t be too broad)
4. Don’t compare yourself (it’s you verses you yesterday)
3. You don’t market your podcast (build your audience. Clear niche & message. Build relationships. Be a guest on other podcasts.
2. Define what a successful podcast means to you. (What are your goals for your podcast? Show up consistently)

I'm not sure if this helps, but I've found releasing shorter episodes (20-30 minutes max) has brought me more listeners. People only have so much time in the day and a two-hour podcast will be very off-putting. A shorter one means a better chance of consumption.

A wise man once told me, “If you want to get to know a topic, thoroughly, attempt to teach it. That is podcasting for me. I want to expand my own knowledge, so I research information I want to know personally. IMO, your teachings here are spot on. You reference tenacity, planning, review - all qualities that would help any activity. Thank you and much success.

I’m so GRATEFUL that this video hit my feed this morning. My podcast is just starting to ever so slightly uptick. My niche is an audience of people who, like me, have someone else they care for who is severely disabled or medically fragile. Like special needs parents, caregivers of elders etc. I am a Mom to a 24 year old disabled son, his condition turned our lives completely upside down. This is the inside journey on how to adapt. So I named the podcast “The Adapted Life”. I think the biggest challenge I face is trying to stay consistent, which in itself is antithesis to the life of a caregiver of severely disabled medically fragile person. So it is.
My intuition led me back to tips and strategies from exactly guides like you Pat. I love doing what I do. I am truly on a journey to rediscovering myself after 20 plus years of extreme adversity.
Life is beautiful. Joy is possible, even when your child is born with a deformed brain.

Superb advice...love the healthy comparison game advice about personal progress. But mostly i love what you said about each download or listen being an actual person who chose to spend time with you. Sometime I will look at the analytic map and say wow..."i cant believe somebody in Africa or Europe is listening to us. Great video..Thank you very much.

We dont compare ourselves, we try to be different but aimed toward a specific audience within the niche. We market every single day. We have exact goals we know we can reach. We're 203 episodes in over 6 years, never giving up..... however we are STILL struggling.

We just started our podcast a few months ago. It's all about whiskey/bourbon/scotch/etc reviews, cocktails and rock video! So far it's audio only with Shorts/Reels for video content.
We keep the subject matter pretty niche, we don't really compare other than to inspire ourselves, we don't plan on giving up, but the other points in your video hit closer to home. We do a little bit of marketing through fb/ig ads, and we haven't ever talked about what "success" looks like for our podcast. No idea what that looks like, so we have no idea how to reach that mark!
