What I like is that everybody didn't immediately go for the most gain, the lowest dropped tuning, the most chunk... I mean, there is more to Metal than djent and death metal. It's not about the amount of noise. Nobody ever goes for the light but lightning fast riffs of Power Metal or the airy but rocking licks of Glam of the neck wrecking palm muted bonanza of Thrash. So yeah, wonderful to hear the guys here not falling into the djent trap :D.

The big "tell" that you guys aren't metal players is mostly the picking on the rhythm guitars. A lot of straight power chords directly on the beat stuff, sounded very Sabbath-y which is great but it's sort of foundational to the point where even by the 80s most riffs would have had more muted tremolo picking and gallops breaking em up. Samurai Guitarists was actually pretty convincing. Paul's sounded kinda super modern with chords that would be at home in a prog song or something.

I was about to write exactly that. Sammys sound was fitting for the riff in my opinion. Davids tone could have done with more gain. I think metal musicians have less issues with sacrificing clarity for more punch, but then again, you need less gain for openly played chords. If you want to chug, a guitar tone with too little gain will sound like coming from a toy guitar.

@@ratatatuff ehh, depends if we're talking pre 90s or post 90s. Cos 80s metal guitarists were pretty straightforward but after that metal got very proggy, technical and fairly jazzy

BRAVO BRAVO, That was so cool. I really digged everybody's version of metal tunes. My favorites were the first guy and the Canadian guy, and Pauls track. You should definitely do something like this again.

paul's riff if u put the tempo a tad bit faster and with fat bass with lots of double pedaling drums, you got a sick slipknot song with that

Chris simply landed a fenomenous and unexpected guitar solo with that tasty bends at the end... Just beautiful.

As a bass player I love that the uke bass has the biggest sound.

Awesome!!! Finish them all!! I've been a Metalhead for most of my life since early childhood. Paul's riff and Chris's riff, the one inspired in Black Sabbath, those were trully eventful!

I have been a metal fan since the birth of metal. I applaud each and every one of you! I really enjoyed it!

Chris Buck needs to start a fucking metal band, and I need to find a microtonal guitar. That Samurai riff was sick.

  • @suspiciousdoge9yand104

Paul’s was the best out of all of them lol.. he even chose Progressive as the metal subgenre as a bonus. Amazing!!

I really liked Justin's a lot, it was very sludge metal or noise rock-ish, could be a new Jesus Lizard track for sure lol with al those slurs and dissonance. But Mick also really surprised me. I like that he didn't try to change his developed right hand technique but instead got creative to make what he already knows more "metal".
