Mantids all have their own personalities and are surprisingly human-like. I think you should get one :) all the mantids I've had have been very different personality-wise, but most of all, they're pretty funny. I would watch them for hours if I could. Once a mantis got on top of the fridge :P
if you get one though here's a tip that I had to learn the hard way since it wasn't in any books: NEVER put a cricket in with your mantis when he/she is molting (shedding his/her skin).

When we fed our praying mantis we thought it was just gonna eat its head and that's it but nope. Ma dude went straight for the stomach, munching the mid section until there was a big ass hole, the butt and head barely connecting with a lot of white insect blood coming out. It was gruesome and super unexpectedly disturbing. The poor roach was alive throughout it all. Rip the poor bugger

Not a joke but my brother actually had a friend mantis, he would visit it every year we came to India, the cool part is that the mantis didn’t have to be stored in a container, The mantis would just come to our home whenever my brother was there, It’s so cool how love follows you everywhere..even with animals!

I remember a praying mantis was resting atop of my father’s car back the day before school started for me this year. We looked closely at it and took pictures. It seemed to be aware that it was the model for our pictures and it made us so happy. It was such a friendly little thing. We were actually kind of sad that we had to start driving. In the brief moments we bonded with it, I named it Manny.
