- Jermall Charlo battled once-beaten Matt Korobov in a scheduled 12-round middleweight interim world title bout on December 22, 2018, live on FOX from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, as part of the Premier Boxing Champions series.
Korobov-a last minute replacement for Willie Monroe Jr. who was removed from the card after testing positive for a banned substance-showed impressive grit and determination against WBC champion Charlo. The fight ultimately went to the scorecards, at which time the judges awarded Charlo with a unanimous decision victory.
Charlo retains his middleweight title and his record improves to 28-0, (21 KOs).

25:45 - To show how biased the commentary is in this fight, Korobov landed about 20 clean straight left hands to Jermall's jaw in the first 6 rounds but then in the 7th when Jermall finally lands a straight right hand of his own they start showing immediate slow motion replays before the round even ends lmao. Korobov took Charlo to school in this fight, easily outpointed him but of course Jermall is the one getting the push from the network so the judges gave the win to him as an early Christmas present 🎁

Korobov was more impressive then a lot of you give him credit. He’s a southpaw, had good footwork and a hell of a straight left. I could tell his stamina lacked and Charlo took advantage. Good fight for charlo though he will learn from this.

The judging and the commentary were so biased. Goosen couldn't stop talking about how strong the Charlos are. 40:12 pretty much ecompasses Goosen's bias. And the 109-119 score, wow....

The irony behind this fight is it was closer than the co main event. Charlo started pouring it on after round 5. Korobov started slowing down and round 12 could've been a 10-8 round....I think Charlo did a great job of catching up plus he utilized his jab a lot. Great fight though!

Korobov's left hand hitted Charlo face more effectively than Charlo's jab.
7-5 Charlo, he should've jabbed more and was obviously off his square after his brother got robbed. He did eat a lot of left hands, but Korobov didn't have the power in them to capitalize, Charlo shook them all off. In my opinion Korobov would've given any top guy a good fight that night, he's no pushover.

Credit to you for seeing what actually happened. I saw Korobov clearly winning and boxing very well, he did however make clumsy mistakes from time to time but Charlo very rarely made him pay until the last round. In an ideal world they should rematch, but realistically they will move Charlo on hastily from Korobov to try and get a big money fight going. Since Korobov is a southpaw you would have to guess that he is going for Andrade's WBO belt since he is also a southpaw.

I guess I'm one of the only people who saw this fight different after watching it regular and once in slow motion and rewinding rounds I think Charlo edged this out in one of the best boxing matches I've seen as of late. From slipping, counters, inside punches, feints, timing, footwork and head movement by both.

Korobov rounds: 2,3,4,8,10
Round 9 could have been a swing round after seeing charlottes get cracked with those lefts I was scoring it for Korobov but after rewatching it he countered fairly well and stay patient the second half of the round and edged it out.
Definitely feel as if Charlo could have went to the body more and cut off the ring better but Korobov gave him and hand full of lefts to think about.During the second half of the fight you could clearly tell Korobov was winded or trying to avoid what happened during the 12th round.

People forget that charlo’s entire fight camp leading up to this was based around Willie monroe jr, a fighter with an entirely different style that jermall worked to study and create counter measures for. Then there’s a literal last minute switch and he has to fight koborov who is an elite, slick and strong southpaw with a completely different set of weapons than monroe has. And Charlo still was able to adjust in the later rounds and bring the fight to him despite not having prepped for such high caliber of an opponent. I agree that charlo currently is ready for Canelo or Jacobs but he’s only getting better and I think this fight showed his ability to adapt in there and his toughness.

Nivek Mendez If you visibly hurt your opponent in a round you win the round as long as you don’t get hurt in the round..Korobov landed many straight lefts but he wasn’t hurting Charlo and Charlo visibly hurt him several times and he is the champion. The fight was an ugly win for Charlo and a pretty loss for Korobov. Also, remember Charlo was training for a totally different style(Willie Monroe) & Korobov replaced him last minute.
Def a close fight but Charlo edged him out in the later rounds. Charlos jab was landing really well and Korobov's eye showed it. The right man won the fight.

@@8PMFORMULA Korobov was only training for an 8 rounder, AND he had to drop an extra 4 pounds in those 5 days, as his previously scheduled fight was at a catchweight of 164, not 160.
The weight loss thing is especially crazy. Imagine training 8+ weeks for a fight, every single part of your training regimen is based on making one specific target weight while still being in shape, then less than one week before the fight you find out you have lose an extra 4 pounds, basically you gotta just drain the fuck outta yourself, and you STILL perform this well. It's actually very impressive.

Well Deryvachenko came off a war with GGG and lost to Jacobs. Deryvachenko oddly didnt go to the body against Charla. He was headhunting. Deryvachenko is a 1 dimensional fighter. Either way Charla is overrated
