@@davidfrischknecht8261 Tbh, Mago is Gfriend sounding than what you would think. Apple is very distinct for sure but their summer comeback always tends to be experimental anyway, so there's that.

Gfriend is one of the unique groups that you can't easily really stan musically but once you digest their song and get into them you will be obsessed and you will regret not to stan them earlier :))

It's also interesting to hear about the impression of the composition from these musicians, after reading all the netizens' comment. The point about harmony to keep the listener engaged is a very insightful point. It's also so fascinating to hear about how Gfriend's music makes changes that musicians can pick up but not necessarily us commoners.

Noh Joo Hwan is one of Gfriend's best music Producer... He produces some of my favourites like Crossroads, TFTMN, Sunrise, Room of Mirrors, Three of Cups, and more! Love this guy, wish to hear some more of his in the next CBs

labyrinth is really THAT album, from track 1 called “the album” itself, followed by “crossroads” which is the majestic title track, then “here we are” that produces an anthem like feeling, then the peak of the album which is the track “eclipse,” eventually the album slowed down leading us to “dreamcatcher” and “from me” 2 ballads which showcase gfriends vocals through harmony, a great way to end the album.

Lack of resolution make it somewhat unsatisfying, but at the same time it also telling that "Crossroad" they are having in the tune. It is great song and my most listened song of the year.
Crossroads was my introduction to GFriend they all seemed so mature and "Unni-like" and then I found out they were all in their twenties and felt old (I'm 34) they were one of the first handful of groups (the others being Red Velvet and (G)-IDLE as well as Stray Kidz) that I got into when I first honestly decided to give K-Pop a try. So Crossroads will always be a GFriend era I have fond memories of.

I've always had trouble hearing Gfriend songs as anime songs, I really just think gfriend before anime. Also, I think almost any song can be in an anime, but the stereotypical genre for it in my mind is j-rock. The korean throws me a lot.

Hook (intro) is in Eb minor, ending with a Bb chord (V of Ebm and bVII of Cm) to verse in C minor
Verse is in C minor, also ending with Bb chord (bVII of Cm and bIII of Gm) to hook starting with Eb, which may sound like a perfect cadence but it's actually bVI of G minor
Hook is in G minor, ending with D chord (V of Gm), and then use common tone Bb between Gm and Bbm to jump to Gbm chord (bVI of Bbm). Also chromatic movement (D to Db, A to Bb, F# stays the same enharmonically but becomes Gb instead)?
And in the end of chorus there's a picardy third (bVI - bVII - I) to Bb major, which feels like a resolution but resolves again to hook in Eb minor

I kinda agree..crossroads is something I wouldn't listen all the time...but the instrumentals on this is a masterpiece.

Man, true intellectuals appreciate Crossroads. I love Mago and Apple and I'm glad they were able to branch out musically to something entirely different (and more trendy) yet still keep their signature sound, but as a Buddy from debut, I fell in love with this type of instrumental and intense, dramatic, and emotional feeling in their music. They just convey it so well. Especially Yuju's isolated line after the bridge, when I first heard that, it just HIT different. No surprise to anyone one of my favorite Gfriend songs is Time for The Moon Night. Still, as much as I loved Labyrinth, Crossroads deserved better. :(
Also Kevin is a musical genius and it's always really fascinating seeing him and anyone else go to the piano to explain and showcase their theories. Thanks for the awesome editing Umu, your videos always make me crack up.
