Obsession can literally be a textbook example of correct and good use of autotune as an art form. It has it's purposes and ways of use and when not being abused you get great songs like this. Honestly didn't expect this from EXO's comeback but then again they always surprise. I'm so glad I ordered their album despite, like most ppl, getting my pre-order canceled twice. This is one of my most favorite albums now. It's like some songs came of of the 90s or early 2000s
I agree about Autotune as an art form. Another strong example is Brown Eyed Girls' Abracadabra. Of course, that didn't use Autotune this much, but it's one of the earliest examples in KPop (that I know of) for using Autotune so well.

Yeah, they used it to sound like they were otherworldly, demonic beings, which fit their concept. Also, i think twice's signal fits this too, during the part where they sing "jjirit jjirit," considering they were playing the role of aliens in disguise.

Obsession has so many good songs in it, but honestly, I didn't expect anything less from EXO. Their albums are always top quality, for me at least. So far, I haven't been disappointed by any of their releases. Many kudos to the producers of the album too, they truly delivered.

Cloud said she liked that there's like 2 voices, there's a dark creepy voice on the bottom. I think it's intentional since the concept of this MV is about EXO and EXO's clones thus having 2 different auras.
The autotune,I think it's also really intentional. It is inorganic, and maybe because of the concept too. It focuses on the clones, they aren't human at all, they are like demons/robots/villain. Autotune and inorganic vibe is just a great idea. SM and EXO doesn't disappoint. Totally great for me

But its about the self destructive behaviour once the night slips in, the voice in your head that tells you it knows you best, degrading every last inch in you... its about a fight between the two consciousnesses a person has, one that’s trying to keep you alive the other filling you with guilt and incompetence.
And it actually is explained at the end verse of the song “one night I saw the shadow following me in the darkness, with the one turned on light at the exit.. I realised it’s me looking at myself in the mirror”

i’m pretty sure that’s what it means bc a song about sasaengs would be too on the nose, esp since their concept is about the clones. but it’s not unfair to interpret it that way, since exo have never been shy to call out their sasaengs (baekhyun especially), but i agree, umu should’ve said the proper interpretation.

옵세션 곡 설명을ㅠㅠ 왜 저렇게ㅜㅜ 사생 아니고 저 오지는 세계관을 알아야 더 소름돋는 곡인데요,,,
I think one of the stronger elements of 'Obsession' is the use of contrasting sounds. For example the really high pitch ostinato "I want you" up against Baekhyun and Kai singing in a lower register, also the almost strikingly low 'demon voice' during the pre-chorus/bridge (not sure what to call that section) while they sing at a higher pitch (especially Chen!) . It makes the song a lot more interesting to me. Also the harmonies are great.

oh i definitely share elizabeth's enthusiasm for the little flute in "groove". it was so elegant !
on another note, 'obsession' for me is one of exo's best comebacks to. and i'm not even a huge fan of exo to begin with. it was kinda polarizing, as in people either loved it or hated it just like zimzalabim, but honestly i was a bit sad to see how negative most exo-l's reaction was when it came out. the grittiness, the musical structure, all those key changes in the chorus... idk it just sounds gorgeous to me and i'm still obsessed with it (no pun intended) 3 months later.

This is a masterpiece i loved every thing in this comeback literally when it first released i was in complete shock my mind was blown by how much creative this is..it was so fun and beyond music.. it was like a perfect superheroes movie with amazing tracks and vocals, sooo entertaining everybody worked in this are a genius the whole thing is out of this world. It so refreshing and took me to another world. They even mad it fun when they opened another account and mad a social media battle between EXO and X-EXO. This is what i call it entertainment. obsession has a lot of possible meaning to it; the one about sasaengs and all isn't exactly accurate, especially in reference to their concept and the mv.
sm has stated that obssession is actually "about one's will to break out of the darkness of a torturous obsession directed towards oneself," which would make sense given the exo vs xexo concept.
as xexo are exo themselves, the pretty part, (the part that sounds different, pure, and not evil), junmyeon' part, the lyrics is "the time we were happy together, i know" is probably in reference to exo who have temporarily gotten rid of xexo. this would make sense with jongdae's line that follows, "i have to end them now, forget everything" as his thoughts are his and his alone, without his x-self, right before the chorus and original beat comes back where exo and xexo are fighting each other again.
If what you want is look for easy listening K-Pop, you can find the songs very easy anywhere, but if what you want is broad and versatile K-Pop music experience and exploration, EXO is your ultimate answer.

All throughout their career... I could say that EXO was one of those kpop idol legends that are truly versatile. In a song you'll hear different flavors! Which, in this generation of kpop idols, is already hard to spot. I think EXO is the only kpop group that could beautifully execute a song that has different elements and/or flavors.
In every comeback album they pull through, there are new flavor/s you could consume from their songs!

I guessed that they have more serious context to explain about these two songs rather than tempo :v in tempo they're more like havin fun and giving us the easy-to-know musical analysis in it, but here -tho they're havin fun too, their analysis were way bolder and louder. And I appreciate them so so much about it, also thanks to them -I still able to enjoy it even I couldn't understand some of those explanation in details, I've learned new things :')

There are already two typical interpretation. (and very dominant)
First, EXO’s alter ego is X-EXO. this is the official interpretation.
And EXO have their own fictional universe. this is very huge.
We can interpret based on this universe. Then, X-EXO is a clone of EXO. (and we can think about relations with other albums of EXO.) This is second.
I think your interpretation is pretty nice but actually these two is very dominant. So I feel awkward and uncomfortable the entire time. And many other fans think so too.

I'm so glad they reacted to Groove. Hands down my fave Bside from this album. The vocals are just soooo smooth esp Baek and Chen, and the rap is done so good as well. Kai and Suho are also amazing. Love love that song. OBSESSION I can't get enough of this song, everything is well done vocals, rap, choreo, styling and concept.
