The Most Insane Ski Run Ever Imagined - Markus Eder's The Ultimate Run

โSometimes my mind goes kind of crazy about skiing and I ask myself, what if...?โ - Markus Eder
What if you could link every powder turn, every rail, every cliff drop, every comp run and every kicker nailed into one ultimate run? Well, Markus Eder did just that in โThe Ultimate Runโ!
This is Markusโ Opus Magnum, a medley of face shots, massive tricks and even bigger drops, which was documented by Innsbruck based production company Legs of Steel over the past two years.
Markus has been visualizing the ultimate run since 2015. It may look like a simple undertaking in the final edit, but for arguably the most versatile skier on the planet, it meant taking his skill levels in every form and style of contemporary freeskiing to the next level.
โAll aspects of freeskiing have fascinated me since the beginningโ, states Markus.
The Ultimate Run kicks off on the lofty extremities of Zermatt as Markus drops into a sheer expanse of powder, before shredding his way through glacial blocks the size of buses, jumping off ice cliffs and then slips into the belly of the glacier, only to reappear above his home resort of Klausberg. Carving fields of fresh powder he joins a session with his buddies at his local snowpark, before boosting back off into the backcountry for some more face shots. The firecrackers keep on popping as he enters the snow covered architecture of Taufer castle and a mining museum. As the sun sets over the mountains Markus slides out onto the valley floor, six years of dream skiing condensed into ten minutes of pure joy and adrenaline.
This edit took over 90 days to film, entirely in the Alps in Markusโ home region. โThe Ultimate Run is Markusโ dream project,โ says Tobi Reindl from Legs of Steel, โand it also became one of the biggest and most thrilling projects we have done so far.โ
With the first snow falling in the Alps, โThe Ultimate Runโ is a must watch for all winter sports enthusiasts. It will reignite the passion for winter in even the most laid back snow fans for the coming season.

Rubbish! Who are you to say?
My fiancรฉ didn't let me show her..
I was a passionate enduro mountain biker and alpine skier but for the last year I've been really struggling with depression. I completely stopped doing both of these sports. Instead of shredding my bike on local trails, I spent the entire summer at home watching pointless youtube videos for days. I can't describe how I felt, those of you who experienced it know what I'm talking about.
When I saw this video for the first time, it reminded me of all the fun I had on skis and my mtb as well. I'm literally crying now. For the first time after a year of numbness I feel like the passion is coming back.
I can't thank you enough for this video, man. This is my turning point. This weekend I will get back on the bike again.
Edit: Holy cow! My first ride after such a long time was absolutely amazing. I rode 22 km enduro style in a land covered with snow (it was only a second day of snowing but there was already almost 5 cm of snow on the ground). I was suprised to find out that my skills are still there as if I only had a one week pause. I felt absolutely pumped with energy and so many strangers were cheering me up during the ride, it was quite weird but also encouraging. The only issue was my physical condition which was terrible, I was breathing so heavily all the time. But that will get better. I enjoyed the ride so much even though I snapped chain in the end, so I will need to replace it๐ I can't wait to get on the bike again. This is a start of a new era for me.
I'd like to say thank you again to Markus Eder and the makers of this amazing video for helping me to get back on track. And I want to thank all the people that encouraged me in the reply section, you guys really helped me push through the last days before my first ride. I thought about you all during the ride.
I'm back on track!
Stay safe y'all and ride/ski hard!
Edit 12/23/2021: It's been a month since I wrote this comment and decided to make a change in my life. I didn't care for likes, I just wanted to leave something here for the future me.
But now the comment reached 1.000 likes and so many people are finding my story inspiring. You can't imagine how much it makes me happy. I just wanted to say that I've managed to get back to all my other hobbies I had (and kind of lost for a while). Running, working out, combat sports, playing the guitar, reading...
I'm a different person now. With a completely new personality. Even way different than I was before my dark times. I can't explain it with words. I think this whole "experience" made me so much stronger in the end. I still have challenges I have to face in my life but I'm ready. So ready.
To all the people who are still battling with this: You can do it. And you will do it. I wish you the greatest strength to pull yourself out of this. It is all in your head.

This isn't just a video; it's a masterpiece painted on the canvas of snow-capped mountains. Every turn, every jump, it's like witnessing a vision brought to life - a dream sketched in the mind of a genius, then beautifully translated to reality.
The background music? Oh, it's not just music; it's the soul of this adventure, turning every moment into an epic saga. And here's a thought - how mind-blowing would a 'VR 360 version' be? Imagine being in the heart of that exhilarating run, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery!

Defines what Red Bull stands for? Extreme sports events? - Awesome. A drink that gives you diabetes and cancer? - Not so awesome. You won't see a single athlete drink that shit, ever. Marketing? - Great. The actual product? - Maybe they should make something that's actually good for humans, or the planet. They've got the funds, why not make something that's actually good? It's a money machine with only one goal in mind. Maybe we should ask the CEO if he allows his children to drink Red Bull. I think you'll find what really defines Red Bull right there. (Awesome ski video though ๐ )
don't get carried away bro...
@@freezwalm To be fair, Redbull is pretty lacking in advertising their drink, and whenever they do it's mostly a pencilmation commercial with a cheesy line. He's probably been skiing since 3yrs old & 000's of hours to date, most of the work was finding the right track & filming - the actual skiing to him was nothing as he knew where to go and what to expect.

The helicopters shots were the best in my view
@@egeayvala1799 I agree on the merit of wider views, but her the focus, or the "point", is the route. The cinematographer makes sure you always know where you are in this conjured route, while giving you an impression of how you can experience one of these spaces, like speeding around a steep wall, or going through a cave. I loved the wide shot of the little town he just traversed, right after he jumped into the truck. You can pause and try to follow the line he took.

Incredible production, brilliant camera work, what an athlete. Marcus Eder, you're the man!
WOW! Finally a shreddit that rivals "one of these days". What a masterpiece!
Tops one of these days any day
@@rustybower6220 better lines, but nowhere near the fluency and style of Candide
I'm old lady that doesn't ski and I think this is absolutely incredible watched 3 times and forward it.
Amazing talent from skier to climatology. Take a bow.
Now I'm going out to buy some Red Bull.
If you donโt ski, then You supposed to buy volkl revolts.
And then some red bull, of courseโฆ

Absolutely Fantastic
Absolutely incredible, powerful and fascinating!
"You familiar with the region?"
"Yeah, somewhat."
What an excellent performance and production! World-class!
Besides the obviously incredible skier, I would praise the effort made in filming/editing this. The capture of momentum is beyond belief, never ever seen anything so well done!
Altogether fantastic, I'm so happy I got segwayed into watching this, such a delight and a marvel of production, cheers all involved
Iโm a die hard snowboarder but thisโฆ has to be the pinnacle of what can be done on snow. This is the highest level I could even imagine is even possible. Like what else could you do to top this?
Skii Everest
Ski uphill.
This is actually the best run I have ever seen in my entire life its crazy๐คฏ
Doubt it that this is just *one run* but many and edited together into one.
@@joeozwalt6713 Of course it's edited. He would need 30 Cameramans + Crew all dispersed along the "track" otw
@@stephanclemens2348 plus Zermatt and Klausberg are nowhere near each other. He'd be doing a hell of a lot of XC lol. Is it normal to call an edit compilation like this a "run"? Had to do a hard double-take because to me a run is a single lap on the mountain. I'd consider this a "reel"
@@joeozwalt6713 Don't think this really happened, Great movie
