A 2x4 cleat or sticker works just as good as long as it's centered in the unit of lumber
Or just set one end on the ground leaving a little on the trailer then bring your skid steer around the side and pick it up that way
That's exactly what I thought about 5 seconds into the video.
I usually just drop one side on the ground, then go around the side and pick it up.
That would work also.
True meaning of the Navy acronym of K.I.S.S. and thinking outside of the box! 👏👏👏
I personally just put the end on the ground. Then drive around and pick it up. No need to play pallet Jenga. You can lift a load that's tilted. As long as the material is banded/secured together so it doesn't slide apart.
Exactly!!!
Lol I love the comments
Everyone has to tell the guy how to do it.
Why didn't you just you the tractor that brought the stack of pallets to lift it off? It had forks on it.
Each one of those 48 sheets of plywood weighs like 60 pounds - that's almost 3000 lbs! The little green subcompact probably weighs less than that in total, and its loader maxes out at 750 or 800 lbs and would (best case) drop the load on the ground with the hydraulic overpressure reliefs, or (worst case) fold the little loader frame. The skid steer is a completely different class of machine, but even it is honestly probably not rated to lift that much.
Exactly right. The plywood is over the rated lift capacity of the skid loader and it is three times the rated capacity of the tractor.
Thanks for the reply, I didn't know it was a subcompact, figured it was a full sized tractor
@@gmartin03 don’t thank these idiots. That skid loader could have easily done the job of the bobcat by sliding the load to a position to allow the bobcat to take the load off the truck. Your question was on that comes from a place of common sense. Obviously something that is quickly going the way of the dinosaurs. Meaning extinct. This people who replied have probably never been around and farm equipment. My lawnmower could support 750 lbs. but to answer your original question, content. So he had some content. It’s the only logical reason for doing it that way. But u also have people who r completely fine with doing shit the long way.
Right ✅
Put a ratchet strap around it dump the trailer until the bunk slides to the ground and drive out from under it. Worked at a lumber yard for yrs trust me works pretty good. I used to drop bunks off a 1ton all the time
A drop side trailer would be easier or even a flat bed trailer
I worked at company that made alloy tubing or pipes and we had a dolly on wheels instead of pallets that we used especially when it came to box trailers and trucks for loading the long tubes and pipes. worked really well.
The load wasn’t destroyed
Seems perfect to me
Gets the Job Done . That says it All !!!
Or when your loading it in the trailer you can always toss two straps under the load so its ready to be picked out when you need to unload :) that works as well but either way is good just gotta be careful until you fully have the load 😀
Apparently Rockhill has made this lift before so has a feel for machine capacity and balance point. If there were unknowns then it would probably be best to crib the load level and raise the load just enough to clear trailer and cribbing, then move trailer and cribbing away and lower load without moving "forklift."
To those who suggest placing one end of the bunk on the ground, instead of cribbing for a level lift:
When the "forklift" positions to lift an angled load from its side, only one fork will contact the load until the load is raised nearly level. This puts all of the weight being raised on one tine, which may overload the time or the carriage. Also the one-tine lift tends to put an undesirable side-load on everything. Lastly, with some lifts there would be a chance of the load "skiing" when the low end loses contact with the ground/crib. A level lift is generally better in many ways. Not that an angled-load can't also be picked. Depends on many variables in equipment and load.
An alternative to sort of dismiss both of the above suggestions: Slide the load back until one end can be lowered to ground contact; raise the other end of load off of trailer using either sling or fork; move trailer away, lower load.
Many ways to skin a cat. Can we still say that? LoL
Gently dump the trailer
Nahhh the boards will slide
You can wrap a strap from the top of your forks around the far end of the load and back to the forks, works great if the skid steer has enough stability
That piece of cribbing you had in your hand will do the same thing as the pallets. If you cant figure it out I'm not going to explain it
I work at a home generator distributor and this is how I unload all generators on 18-wheelers. They’re too big to put on the truck sideways where the holes in the pallet for forks are accessible, so we have to pull them out over the edge and put a home made wooden brace under it, then come from the side and grab it
The trick is to set up the load when you have it loaded. You should have bought a couple 2x4 and stuck them under it and then drive over to where your fork extensions are and use them.
Sweet!
Always get the fulcrum point on center.
Thats how we do it, on and off trucks, vans and trailer at the lumber yard i work at. Its about efficiency.
And getting the job done is the key.👍
When he reverse did it out with the bobcat how come he didn't pick it up with the other green bobcat that he brought the pallets with
Probably lifting capacity of the green one is not enough
I call that the 2% rule.
If you're 2% smarter than what you're working with, you got a chance. 👌😉🤔
100k skidsteer 500.00 fork extensions
Different strokes for different folks 🤷🏼♂️
If you are less than load city pickup and delivery driver you have learned many tricks like this because people order stuff they are not prepared to unload.
After you pulled it out you should of used that John Deere to grab instead using it to put pallets. 😉
Or the opposite pull it out with deere then grab it. Rookies.
Oh my tractor has a 1500 pound lift capacity at the pins and the pallet of plywood weighs 3500 pounds.
It’s completely useless on this Plywood.
Was thinking the same thing.
Need a small handler.. skytrack etc. Especially if your in construction.. skidsteers are best in the dirt with augers buckets and everything else. Skytrack can lift to the roof out reach 10x
Custom cut the side guards and add heavy duty hinges to drop the panels when unloading. Easy fix.
I work in the LTL industry. This is how you unload pretty much anything too long for standard forks.
Done that plenty of times but in reverse by loading into a cube van when only one fork lift was available.
Maybe some longer forks. Have a nice day
Just have two fork lifts handy!
Sweet sweet this is so good for people that don't do this everyday
Looks perfect
Maybe use the green forklift to take the plywood instead of moving pallets?
Great job
Well done brother 👍
You damaged the bottom piece of sheathing. Set it on taller blocks or pallets next time. Its never fun unloading like this but planning ahead helps. If you have counterweights and enough lift, fork extenders could help you just pick it up off the trailer without having to lift it, set it down, reposition on the side and finally get it off. Just my .02
Use a push bar, or a 4x4, at the base of the long side, and push to the edge of the other side of the trailer. Then, you can scoop it up.
Wow, that was a laurel and hardy moment
Oh.... you're one of those people trying to make a point about something that doesn't really exist just to get attention. Go play somewhere else with your cell phone.
If he had another skid steer to bring pellet just take it off..
That wasn't a skid movin the pallets
@@caterpillarslim1288 but it still had forks on it. He could have just lifted it off the trailer with the tractor and set the stack on the ground for the skid steer to get. Would have made a lot more sense.
@@ConeMakerDude2020 you can tell the weight of the other machine without seeing the machine itself? How heavy is it vs the weight of the wood?
That compact tractor can lift 25% of the weight of the wood and that is if it’s right at the pins. With it extended like that it can’t even wiggle that stack let alone slide it out
@@RockhillfarmYT that's exactly my point. I couldn't see the other machine enough to even figure out if it has enough weight to lift the wood. There is no way they could either.
We would balance it on a pallet and drive the truck out. Lol
If you really need one then that fine but if you not going to need it all the time then what I would do is cut one side of the trailer and weld a frame on the side and a couple of pieces of metal so you can be able to remove that side and slide it back on , just don't cut off where the back door hinges are ... Because it looks like that trailer can handle skid steer or something bigger and why eliminate the space in back of your truck with the goose neck
Or just sit the fork lift side on the ground then drive around and pick it up
Well you have to set it on something to be able to get your forks out, so if you’re going to the trouble of putting a runner under it you might as well put a tall runner(like a stack of pallets) under it
Since the Bunk of Plywood it’s technically over my rated operating weight I think it’s smoother picking it up when it’s level
Well that must have been rocket science
OMG 😱 freaking genius 😭🥶
This is one of the proper ways to unload lumber. Don't unload like these hack delivery companies, and just dump it off the truck.
Am I the only one that sees $3,500 sitting there on that trailer
A couple months ago it was 3500. Now it’s only about 2500.
I run a manufacturing business that uses 100 sheets a week
holy sheet
Couple 20 foot 2 inch straps ! Pick it drive away! Pull the straps and pick the bundle!
I think I would have it unloaded before I could get the straps wrapped around it
Who's kidneys did you have to sell to afford an entire pallet ... very flashy 🤣
It only worked because he had those two pieces of equipment at the same time......
I literally could’ve said anything sturdy under that end. I could’ve easily said those pallets under by hand, or used a couple of concrete blocks
Done it many times. Use the 2nd skidsteer
Trailers are a dime a dozen now .
The tailgate is screaming after that
been there done that 👍👍😎😎
I guess I missed the part where he gets it centered
That’s exactly how we load it on the trailer at Home Depot we use flat carts though
Ha ha, same thing for us at Lowes.
Yep that's how I bib it working at Lowes
The fastest way isn't always the best way
Some heavy duty sawhorses on the end. to support wood would do the trick also
Yes. Thanks for watching
You had two lifts though, no need for pallets or saw horses.
The cribbing he had in his hand will do the same thing. Stand a board under the lifted end and move your as to the side for the win. Dont know why people like to complicate things. Done this a zillon times in my life outcome is the same. Wood on the ground safly and timely
Everyone’s commenting as if it’s some big deal to set those pallets there.
We unload this Plywood all the time and we do it right next to where I parked my tractor and we always have stacks of palettes there.
It only takes an extra minute or two to have the plywood be level
What I used to do is use the green tractor to pull it out while I waited with the yellow one and grabbing it. If both could handle the capacity of course.
I may have hallucinated a second tractor. 🚜🚜
You don’t even have to do that I’ve unloaded lumber for years off of every type of trailer you can imagine including trucks you pick it up you slide it you set one end of it on the ground you move around and you slowly pick it up from the side works just the same you don’t have to stack all the damn pallets underneath it And if you have a reach forklift you run the tilt all the way to one side and pick it up
If you can afford a full lift of plywood, you can certainly afford a little more to have delivered and have the driver unload it with his moffett forklift.
We’ve been buying to Bunks and Plywood per week for the last six years. Most of the time I have it delivered but sometimes they can’t come today. I need it and on those days I have to go get it and unload it myself.
Or get a trailer that has removable sides that can quickly be swung down out of the way for easy side access. I had a nice one like that with 14K gvw.
What’s the weight on a stack of plywood like that 3,500 depending on the moisture??
Yes. 3500
I've put heavy straps around the bundle and the forks, then the bundle won't tip forward.
Pretty sure my machine cannot handle this line from the end.
It’s 3500 pounds which is more than 50% of my tip load but when you extend it out 8 feet it would probably be too much
Wait why didn't you just pickup with the forks on the other tractor?
because that little E series tractor is weak and way tooo light... never would hold even half that stack
3500 pound stack of wood and 1500 pound lift capacity don’t mix
@@RockhillfarmYT you could've easily dragged it back with it though.
@@ColtonBlumhagen no chance. I’ve had that tractor and regular pick ups of that lumber for a long time.
Why wouldn't you use the other loader that brought the pallets in instead of using the pallets? Seems like a whole lot more work and wasted time.
Put some additional cribbing down(4X4's) when you load the bundle on the trailer. You won't need the other skidsteer to help.
Dude literally has two pieces of equipment no need for cribbing
Well ill pay my lumber provider 18$ to deliver and unload the product and not waste my time!
Would just find a better supplier or delivery person that brings the right equipment
You need fork extenders
I can’t carry it from the end. It’s 3500 pounds
Couldnt you just pull it back with the john deere?
Am I the only one thinking "why not use the same tractor you used to move the pallets?"
3500 pounds of plywood and a 1500 pound lift capacity on the tractor
have you not heard of fork extenders ?
or just have the supply chain drop it for you, mangle 2-3 pieces, credit you over market rate like everyone else.
Hello my friends, does this machine need a driving license, and how much is the hourly wage,,,, Thank you
I did just this same slick move yesterday on the wind farm.
How brilliant , did you think of it all by yourself ?
you had a second bobcat with forks, why did he not lift load from side.
Spotted a Heritage Tractor decal. Local dealer?
Yes
what did the end of the forks do to the bottom sheet of ply :(
Doing this for years
Gotta do what u gotta do
What's the reason for the black lines of spray paint on the sides of the plywood?
That is how the lumberyards identify what kind of wood it is. 23/32 CD plywood is five black stripes.
Set the end on the ground on a 2x4 is all it takes. JFC.
Yeah, I could do it that way but I’m not sure how it’s better. It only takes an extra minute to set those pallets under which we keep nearby and then it is easier to pick up from the side because it’s flat
When common sense isn't so common.. how long did it take you to figure this out? Unbelievable.
4³33³³³4
You were using a dunno trailer. Why not do it the rest way and dump it out. Then pick it up. Work smarter, not harder. The whole top and bottom sheets usually aren't usable anyway.
Adjust your quotes to include delivery fees. Keep everyone making money.
Just build some fork extensions
Lol, if everybody was a critic they'd have a different job . Nice , Trac Loader . Id bet it helps out alot .!
Thanks
Better than carrying it
Ooorrrr, use the forklift or other machine you used to place the pallets to pull it off enough for the stonger machine to get under it....😁
Plywood is expensive. Because of the market.
Why not just dump it on the ground like the lumber companies do? Better yet, save yourself some time and money and have them deliver it?
How TF is a goose neck going to help you? You need an army to change the light bulb 💡
Why not taking by the side first?
