The making of this reminds me of a Scandinavian design, use a block of wood to disperse the force so you don’t mar the leather and you can make a different style that looks nice and is practical for small to large knives
Heh true, although in case you were wondering, that style of carry is common for bushcraft work, as it reduces the chance of the knife getting snagged and pulled out of the sheath.

In Finland when I was a kid, everyone had to make knife or axe in junior highschool and the leather sheath for it. Good times. My favourite part was heating the steel and hammering the shape before sharpening. I never felt so metal than during it 😂
I was just wondering if I am the only oddball who has always found leather cutting sound and texture appealing? Obviously most of us must have some connections to working with it in our ancestors but its just odd how natural some things feel, Well its not odd, it’s humbling to remember what all life led up to who we are today. I find it sad that modern religion crams it all into an un real 7000 years or so. To overlook our evolution is just so depressing, I can’t imagine such a thing.

Very beautiful work! My only critique is that if you add a belt loop after like that, it'll wear out faster than if the belt loop was an extension of the main piece. But if this will be ornamental or minimal use, it's probably better like this because it just looks cooler.
Actually depends on your own design, some are far easier and faster but pros and cons. Leatherwork is a lot eaiser than you would think, but also much harder in some ways

I made a leather sheath with the smith when I made my knife. Both were very fun projects and I recommend doing both at least once.
