LEAD FROM BEHIND is on a mission to make colon cancer famous.
We're raising awareness that #ColonCancer is The Preventable Cancer.
► Colon cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in America. 1 in 24 Americans gets colon cancer. It doesn’t need to be - because it’s preventable.
► The best way to prevent colon cancer is by getting a colonoscopy when you turn 45. The guidelines changed in 2021 lowering the age from 50 to 45.
► People don’t want to talk about colonoscopies, let alone get one. We’re using humor and heart to change that.
► Colon cancer is rising in young people - predicted to be the top cancer killer for people under 50 by 2030.
LEAD FROM BEHIND is founded by Brooks Bell, powered by @colorectalcanceralliance, and created in partnership with Maximum Effort & Chrysi Philalithes.

I had a colonoscopy a few weeks later and a precancerous polyp was removed. My doctor literally saved my life. She easily could have said I'm too young or that I didn't fit in some kind of "box" that would warrant further investigation. Whatever they use for sedation is strong. When I had mine, the last thing I remember was asking how quick it would knock me out. The dr. said "just a few seconds" and the last thing I remember saying was "there it is." I woke up with my wife in the recovery room and after talking to her for a few seconds, found out that I had been awake for several minutes and had even talked to the dr. about the results. I do not remember any of that part. Thankfully, everything checked out fine. The only part of the whole process that was uncomfortable was the prep.

I was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer last year at the age of 42. I started having noticeable small amounts of blood in my stool and or on toilet paper in 2017. It was every 3 to 4 months. Took the at home blood in stool test. It came back negative. I also started having diahrea, change in bowel habits. Then towards the end of 2020 I became anemic. Noticed blood about once a month and bowel movements were 4 to 6 times a day. In 2021 I couldn't leave the house because I needed to be near a toilet. Anemia was very bad. Also had gassy rumbling in rectum area, if that makes sense. Especially when waking up in morning. Also, as soon as I woke up in the morning I had to go. Finally had a colonoscopy in August 2021 and surgery in September 2021. Couple weeks before surgery I started having the ribbon like stools. If you're asking because you're having symptoms, don't wait like I did. I was very lucky that it was only stage 2 after having symptoms for so long. Ryan, thank you for putting out this message. I was 43, so too young to be screened, but I started feeling unwell and stopped having bowel movements. Six weeks later I was having emergency surgery as a tumor had completely blocked my bowel. I was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. Thankfully I had no metastases, but the lining inside my abdomen tested positive. Had a great surgeon...he left me with a double-barrel colostomy, but he intentionally did it in a way so that it could be reversed later. I went through chemo and a long recovery, but survived long enough to get that colostomy reversed. I'm 55 now and considered cured, but no one else I went through chemo with survived. I have my criticisms of western medicine, but this is a fairly low risk procedure that with early detection can save your life.

Thanks for the awareness guys! There are those who either don't think about it, or, think it'll be too hard to do, but you've managed to nail down both!
I'll be doing it for sure when I come of age (I haven't said that in a long time) and I hope everyone else does too!
Let's live long and healthy guys!! 👍

Great watching these two as they riff off each other in anything that they do together. I've also had this procedure at 60 and I'd definitely recommend it, so guys don't hang about, it could save your life.

Thanks Rob n Ryan! I've had two colonoscopies and I'm 41. Bit scary being on the younger side, but its so worth it to prevent cancer from happening. Really appreciate you guys doing this! To everyone being on the fence about this, yeah the prep sucks, but living longer, so worth it!

It's so nice that Ryan is helping Rob with his Make-A-Wish dream.
Kidding aside, I moved to Texas to look after my father when he contracted a similar cancer. Thanks to Rob & Ryan for bringing awareness.

I’m 39 and have had 2 colonoscopies so far! I’m glad to have early screening since pre cancerous polyps were found both times

  • @geraldzarzoso9446

Such an important video. I know someone who had a colonoscopy and they found cancer. He's fine after an operation. More awareness is needed. Thank you both.

This is an amazing video, I am living proof that that colonoscopy saves lives. I had my first one this may at 47 (I delayed it because of COVID). The doctors removed a 45mm polyp (no that is not a typo..) from my colon. The pathology showed that this was one huge ball of cancer... but the bad stuff didn't go down the stem to the bowel wall and the margins were clean, meaning once he removed the polyp, I was cancer free.. The worst part of the whole this is the prep, but the procedure is easy.. I can not stress enough if you are of age or have colorectal cancer in your family history, consult a physician and schedule it NOW!!!! #LeadFromBehind
