Thanks for sharing this. As an ex binger myself, I've never related more to anything. People really don't show BED enough relevance. It will affect your mental health, it will destroy your physical health and it will destroy your personal relationships as well.
It's definitely a mental health issue, the weight gain is just a consequence. And the consequences of weight gain can be body dysmorphia, lots of shame, insecurity. This is what people definitely notice, but somehow they still dislocate this all from binging.
What it all comes down to is that people need to have a healthly relationship with food, real self-esteem and the ability not to let others' opinions control them. Because when you try to conform to others, you re focusing on THEIR problems with YOU.
What they have in their mind (be it an opinion about you or someone else) is of no real concern to you. The thing you need the most to do is learn what your real needs are and focus on meeting them. Letting others influence your life is the polar opposite of self-growth.

only found you recently and thank you. My downwards spiral to anorexia happened over 4 months until hospitalisation and everyone who treated me kept saying how good it was that i wasnt "too deep" because it was so quick. the other ED girls i met had been in it for years so thank you, hearing how quick yours was but real makes me feel like it was actually a problem and didnt matter that it was short period

Thank you for sharing your story and being vulnerable about your experiences. I can relate to a lot of it. I have made much progress, but still am not completely healed of my disordered eating. I believe it will be a daily battle until the end of my days, but I am in a much better place. ❀
