HELLO MY BBs! I'm so sorry for the late night upload, I hope you guys enjoy this strange deep dive into the history of lipsticks! Who got a notif for this video? Love, Saf
Safiya Nygaard I love u
Safiya Nygaard I did 👋🏻 you always post at my prime KRplus surfing time
Safiya Nygaard love you queen of darkness lol😉❤️
SAF! Please do a college tips video or a collab with a subscriber! I look up to your channel IMMENSELY and start college next month. 🤗
Safiya Nygaard HEY SAF I LOVE YOU SO MUCH AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT YOUR VIDEOS ARE SO FUNNY AND HIGH QUALITY! LYYY ❤️❤️❤️
Did you just trick me into learning?
it's a trap!
Haru -Chan crap She did!
Fake!!!!!!!!!!
Safiya Nygaard stop it!
Angel Snow I already reported the comment
I *love* how Saf's lip color changes with what she is talking about
Why are old makeup compacts so much cooler than now ?
Kelsey Centeno that's totally unrelated but styles and fashion in general has changed drastically, and people became more interested in sleeker-slimmer designs
Wow I just said something like that. You read my mind.
True!! It's about convenience now though since your average working woman wants to wear makeup... it just makes sense to have makeup that's slimmer and can fit in a purse or wherever
A⃟n⃟n⃟z⃟a⃟l⃟i⃟s⃟a⃟ same, there was little ding in the background when she did change it lmao
Fun fact in the forties lipstick was considered patriotic because hitler hated lipstick
Specifically bright red lipstick, because he thought it was too much of a statement for women.
Actually it was considered patriotic because the Americans engineered a colour call victory red to boost moral but that could also be true
But, my grandmother, who was in her 20s during the war, wore lipstick but scolded me if I ever dared to put it on in public, like powdering my nose and touching my lipstick up after a meal. 😂😂
**furiously slathers on lipstick**
I will be wearing lipstick more often now
Elizabeth I.: Thinks lipstick has health properties.
Also Elizabeth I.: Puts lead in her face.
Christian Pasche 😂😂
That’s what I thought 😂
HA😂😂😂
People weren't very educated, smart, nor advanced enough to figure out that mercury and lead were bad...they used mercury and heroin as medicine for babies or children back then in different eras. Yeah...a lot of fucked up things back then...
I think the supposed inch of lipstick QE1 wore wasn't an inch thick layer but an inch thick line around her lip area. Since lead poisoning destroys one's face it might have been a way to try to replace the lips that fell off.
History of period products!! That would be so interesting!!
Natalie Williams And even what women do today in areas where they don't have access to pads, tampons etc
oooh that is a great one!!!
Ironically pads were initially bandages used during the world war to bandage the wounds.

I would love some more “History of” videos in 2019, please! These are awesome!
I second this!
I would too and oo 200th like
@Adelynn Zane 2020 oh god
Or 2021
2022
10 cents a tube? Now it's 10 dollars for a sample
Who are you giving $10 for a sample?
@@amylynnhunt55 ik it's like £7 for a 24 hour lipstick and for a sample it's like £1
It's only 8 dollars with colourpop.
guys it was a joke saying lipstick is expensive 😂
@@swaggyfrogeditzz5759 no one got my joke lmaoo
As a history teacher I really appreciate how you are teaching history and making it accessible and interesting for such a huge audience who may think otherwise that history is boring!
aw im glad u like it! thanks for watching!
I agree with you (I was a history major in college). love Safiya spreading cool historical info in a fun way!
marisdc Yes! Definitely a fresh approach to a history video.
Mum: turn off your phone and come help me
Me: but mum i'm watching a documentary
nikoleta tsakiri Thanks for the excuse 😂😂
Bocolate lol you're welcome
My mom kept yelling at me.
MintChoco918 mine too but when i said about the documentary she stopped😂😂
Low key thanking you cause ima need that excuse in a minute
ive rewatched these history of videos so many times, as a history nerd, its so interesting to watch especially since Saf is the narator!! do more of these pretty please, perhaps with the history of jeans, or skincare, or piercings?
Oooh piercings yes I'd so be interested in that
Piercings would be cool
Yes!!!!
Tattoos and hairstyles would be interesting too
Hair or skincare
Saph: The 30s and 40s brought the great depression and world war II. But that didnt stop lipstick sales.
Woman at the time: I'm sad but I still gotta look fabulous😗

Kylie L. Did you notice the amount of likes you have? I died tho😂😂
Id do the forehead smack if someone thought that was Elizabeth.
When she said "glossy top coat" I thought I was watching Cristine for a sec
TheGaming Cake what's a topcoat I only know tacos
Cloudy lol same
@@emmagenet9670 well.... Hello there my Fellow Ravenclaw, Safiya and Cristine fan. We are so much alike
hehe me too
Cloudy surely, the fact she said ‘top coat’ and not taco’ is an indication that she is most decidedly not Cristine
Ok modern lipstick needs a mirror!!!!!
I know! That's genius!
Tbh I don't wear make up so I thought more people had lipstick holders with small mirrors in them because my grandmother had one lol.
All the Guerlain lipsticks Rouge G have mirrors- choose the lipstick colour and top with mirror separately. I have like 12. lol
@@LSSYLondon They meant a mirror attached to the liptstick like 1920s one shown in the video.
@@beehillyard7886 My grandmother has one like that too!
This needs to be a series!!!!!! The history of.... and do different makeup/ fashion trends, for example.... blush/powders...bras/and clothing
It basically is. She's done the history of chokers before.
david pliego Lisa Eldridge has done a series on history of makeup. She has a lot of vintage items!
She should do hair x
david pliego
👇
david pliego the history of eye brows 😆
*"Cristine bust through the door* "DID SOMEONE SAY, GLOSSY TAAAAACOOOOOOO"

H💿L💿SEXUALS UNITE!!!
when she said glossy top coat I instantly thought of Cristine
"It looks kinda Cheeto-y"
Annatto is in fact used to make Cheddar cheese yellow/orange!
Saf: I did a “little” research
Also Saf: *shows whole damn research and 99% of our knowledge of topic*
Me:u did the whole god damn research about the whole god damn history of lipstick, tch
I wish Safiya was my history teacher

YES HONEY GET THAT AUDIBLE SPONSOR
hoe Why do people keep saying that? Yes she got a sponsor but comments like these will prevent her from getting a sponsor from this company. I hope people realize that the company sees these comments and most companies don't want people commenting this. Go see heyparis video about getting sponsor.
Jknewsfann ™ Because Audible has been sponsoring only the best KRplusrs since KRplus first started. Getting sponsored by amazon, one of the richest companies in the world, is a big feat and achievement and SHOULD be praised and celebrated. It basically means saf has made it to the top of KRplus in such a short amount of time. Getting sponsored by amazon ENCOURAGES other companies to sponsor saf...
Jknewsfann ™ some people might not know its sponsored? 😂😂 she literally thanks audible for sponsoring the video within the first minute... Also, I doubt audible is scrolling trough her comments, they have better things to do.
Jknewsfann ™ Girl you're stupid. When a company sponsors a video they HAVE to disclose that it was sponsored, otherwise its illegal. Read a book.
Although she disclosed that it was sponsored companies don't want to see comments like these. I've had personally experience were I almost lost a sponsorship because people were commenting things like these. I have a large following on Instagram and people kept commenting "get your coin" or "get that sponsorship" comments like those could prevent saf from getting future sponsorships.
"this is not Elizabeth this is Jenna marbles" oh yeah thanks I almost confused them
Basically the same person in two different time periods
PLEASE make more "history of" videos! Maybe history of shoes, eyeshadow, or highlighter next???
safiya got sponsored!!!! i feel like a proud mom lmao
I'll be your fren, fren
I will also be your fren, fren. |-/
I want to be your fren
Aye 100th like!
I can't help but notice your profile picture fren
What about "History of eyebrows?" I think it would be intresting. 😂
Alexa Cho, Saf would make it more intresting though.
Especially if Saf did examples of it on herself 😂
Lexy Rose I think that liza koshy should make that video I doubt she would do it though
Al Mri, That's not Lizas style though, Liza is more comedy skits.
Yaaas that would be so good
I love it when dope KRplusrs do amazing research. Well done Saf, well done!!!
So there was a Broadway musical called War Paint about Elizabeth Arden and Helena Rubinstein. it was cool to see that the actual ads of the time were used in the show and how historically accurate the story was
It was so cool to see those vintage lipstick tubes, loved this! 😍😍😍
Hollie Forrest OMG Hollie I love ur vids!!!!!!!!!
Creepy amount of likes. lol
"and the french aristocrats who wore them got their heads chopped off. Now that is one way to end a trend" DEAD LMAO
Shadow Cadette yeah they died rip
Shadow Cadette literally dead.. like actually dead
I laughed so much at that part. Yup the trend died when the trend setters' head got chopped off
just like the aristocrats
I love the 80's. I think it's very fun and colorful and you could express yourself however. Plus some pretty good tv according to my mom.
Kenzie McGee ghjhhjh
I wish Safiya could be my history teacher. ^~^
Well, she can tell you about makeup and clothing, but I'm not sure what she has to say about the Battle of Waterloo or the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire.
"This is not Elizabeth. This is Jenna marbles" 😂😂 I'm dead
Hana T same😂 I think they should do a collab😁
I lowkey wish that she could be my history teacher
Qxeen Mxna yea
Qxeen Mxna ya
I do but high key
Please?
Qxeen Mxna sammeee
Okay I gonna wear red lipgloss today 😂😍greetings from Germany and have a nice day everyone 🧚🏼♀️
Safiya should voice documentaries her voice is perfect for them
My favorite part about this video is that each time Safiya introduces a new time period of lipstick, her lipstick color changes! Great touch!💋💄
Maddie Ann yeah i notice that too and i think it is kinda funny and cool!
She does the same for a video about the history of chokers!
At first I thought this was gonna be boring but then I watched the whole thing and really enjoyed it. I love educational/history videos like this!
Have you seen her history of chokers? It's pretty good.
Autumn The Wreck yes
the only history lesson I paid attention the whole time to 😂
9:39 lmao I'm dying the look on the woman on the lefts face, just the sheer determination in her eyes
Yes XD
I actually have a push-up lipstick, and it still has the lipstick in it! It's wearable. But I wouldn't exactly suggest that lol. It looks like a lot like the second tube from the left at 11:08. It was my great grandmothers. Her mother, was a flapper. It's a beautiful dark peachy shade. I got it from my great grandfather, who keeps most things from his wife. I am named after my grandma Marion. And the lipstick still has its case. I love my family. It's all so interesting. I am related to some historical, influential people. It's just so amazing to see pieces of history like that.
That's really cool I've always loved the history of makeup especially after WWII because women always made up their face to get a husband because they might have lost their husband in the war. Off the topic of makeup but during WWII the man and woman usually got married within a week of getting engaged because you didn't know if he was going to get shipped off soon
Marion T wow that's amazing
Marion T
That's awesome!
Anja Garlic same
Marion T like who?
History of eyebrows! Haha
omg yes please
samantha freeman YESS
YASSS!!!

I'm in Cosmetology school and for our makeup chapter I showed my instructor this video and he played it for the whole class. So Safiya is helping educate future professionals in the beauty industry!
My science teacher always wears teal eyeliner, subtle black eyeshadow, and light pink lipstick
Always I’ve never seen her without it
The only time history is fun is when Safiya teaches it
Agree!
Uuuuh what about Bill Nye the Science Guy??
Goshi Kuka HON👏🏽ES👏🏽TLY
Ritz Crackerz The... Science guy...
try the Hardcore History podcast.
Do a week were each day you wear makeup and dress like a certain period and each day you go up 10 years (1930, 1940, 1950)
Sarah Jeddy that's a pretty good idea!!
Sarah Jeddy Hey, that's pretty good
Sarah Jeddy I love that idea!
Sarah Jeddy YES
Sarah Jeddy YESSS
I love this video so much. The subtle makeup changes between time periods. I would love more history videos!
Right?!
Thank you Safiya! This video was a big help to my school project about ancient roman make up and fashion. You are wonderful.
If Saf was still in school and had to write an essay about lipstick she'd totally get an A+
Buzzfeed next week: 100 YEARS OF LIPSTICK
🤣🤣
B. R. George omggg..
B. R. So truuueee
Angie Scarf heck yeah!
BuzzFeeds vids r prerecord do majorly
Safiya is so good at making these types of videos. I just love how factual and professional she is.
It was considered patriotic to wear lipstick because at the time of ww2 in Germany, more natural tones or no makeup was promoted and preferred so that is where victory red came in
What did you learn for summer?
-ah, you know, history of chokers, lipstick and the complexion of pastel transformation and those stuff
Endzi Stankovic this is so accurate 😂
Mom: you really should get off of KRplus and do something educational
Me: But I am doing something educational
I'm In Too Many Fandoms!!!! That's my mom too! XD
Me: summer time to relax!
Safiya: you are going to learn things NOW.
Now that's some high quality content😍 unlike buzzfeed 😑
SAFIYA is the type of youtuber who needs to have more than 5 million subscribes noT FUCKING JAKE PAUL
Ikr
afrah che has 9 mil........ depressing
What does Jake Paul do? I'm genuinely curious, I never heard about him
Mdi223 makes stupid videos and makes a fool of himself daily
Ikr! KRplusrs who make interesting, informative, and well put together content deserve so much more attention than those annoying ass little fuckboys
Safiya can you please replace my humanities teacher? You're sooo much more entertaining!
claire same humanities is dumb
There are a lot of youtubers who advertise audible, but you are the first one who actually made me genuinely think about getting it. I LOVE how much research goes into all of your videos 😊 I think it’s so fun that you learn about all these cool topics as a part of your job. I’m for sure going to look into the history of makeup books you recommended 🤓
We need more videos like this, I love listening to you talk.
*Your lipstick collection is fuller than my eyebrows :)*
Wynter lol best comment I've read all day
Wynter I think my yarn collection outdoes her lipstick collection😂😂 if my eyebrows were as full as my yarn collection, I'd look like a clown😂
Wynter me
same
I love your profile picture!
Can you do this with eyeliner eyeshadow and other makeup
Yup.....the history of kohl (and how it is still used in the Middle East, especially Saudi Arabia today....”
The Egyptians used to because it prevented many eye afflictions from the silica in sand.
And contour!
YAAASS plz
Eye liner please
Lola Bolarianista Lisa Eldridge made a cool video about ancient eyeliner.
Queen Elizabeth: wears inch of lipstick
A few centuries later: “today I’m putting on 100 layers of lipstick”
i keep coming back to this video! it made me realise that lipstick is my favourite makeup product~
Probably my most re-watched vid!!
This is why I love Saf, she actually puts time and effort into her makeup videos rather than just give her opinion on a new lipstick she gives us the history of all lipsticks.
can you pls turn this into a series, like "The History Of ...." some type of makeup
History of different trends over the years
Ana V. Yesssss best idea I've seen all week🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
That vintage lipstick case is so cool 😍 I wonder why present day lipstick brands don't add mirror to the lipstick case🥲
PLEASE DO MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS!! As a more masculine woman, I've been wanting to get more into make up but find a hard time to take it seriously as I just see makeup products as another necessary form of commercialism. But this really helps me understand the history of lipstick and find it to be more interesting, worthy or consideration and not so vapid. You did such a good job with the research and presentation elements of this. Ok I'm done gushing now, but seriously, please consider doing more of these! you're doing a great job.
I feel like I was listening to a school report but better 😂
I died laughing at your profile pic!
Your intelligence is so welcome Saf 😍😍😍😍 I'm loving the history lessons. But my boyfriend might be tired of me pausing the video every couple seconds and hitting him with random knowledge
The ONLY channel I don't watch on 2x speed. Your videos are so well put together. Thanks for sharing with us!
I watch a 3 min long ad just for you Safiya, love you!! 💖💖💖💗💗💗
I like how when Safiya does sponsors it isn't the entire video. I have nothing against people getting sponsors because youtube IS a job and they do need the money, but sometimes people babble about their sponsor the entire video/ at a bad time.
dexa101
Well depending on the type of sponsor, they literally give a script for the YTer to read off of & they HAVE TO if they want that sponsor--hence the babbling aka long explanation of what the product is.
Game apps for ex tend to be lengthier.
Anything sponsored is read off or posted as the script given.
Even IG sponsored posts aren't their own words or modification of the script given. It's just copied & pasted.
I know, but I mean most of them make that 90% of the video (like having a story that isn't worth making a video about, and the entire thing just being an ad), and they usually do it at bad timing.
"Where do all of these lipsticks come from? And why do I keep buying them?" - I ask myself these questions everyday
Easily one of my favorite videos you’ve made. This was so much fun and I really hope you do more
Besame's Victory Red is my ride or die lipstick. I like doing casual cosplay of Captain America and it completes my look. But I also have noir red, besame red, red velvet, american beauty, blood red, exotic pink, dusty rose, and portrait pink.
it's not hoarding if you intend to use every last bit of it.....
History lessons you could hold us next😄:
•eyeliner
•eyeshadow
•brows and lashes
•shoes
•nail polish
•bathing suites/bikinis

tell me down in the comments wich one you like the most and if you got new idews tooo!!! Saf we neeed more videos like this!!!!😄😄😄
This needs to become a series
This is seriously a fantastic idea! :) all though I'm 8 months late to the party. I'm still holding out that this could become a thing on the channel! :). Would definitely personally be very interested in the body image one through history!
We need all of these videos!
ALL OF THEM
randome Ré YESSSSSSS
let's face it: if saf was my teacher, i think i'd have a 4.0 GPA by now.
Mariah Michelle I know right!?!?!
Mariah Michelle me too
I love how you summarize things so well!
Great video! ALOT of work went into THAT! Thank you!
You should make this a series and do "History of eyeliner/eyeshadow" next
and blush!
Prisso don't suggest ! Buzzfeed will steal the idea
Prisso Yasss!!! And maybe about the history of fashion too?
Cool
Eden Blue its too vague , it should have its own series like history of jeans, history of dresses , history of shoes but then it would divide into history of heels or history of sandals and dresses would divide too and etc.
"Where are all these lipsticks coming from??"
*Acquires more lipstick just for this video*
I’m learning new stuffs as I watch your videos, you’re putting effort in every research and we really appreciate it.
Obviously I am super late to this party but I really enjoyed this educational style video about lipstick. It’s not a subject I would ever have thought about going out and researching myself but I actually found it quite interesting. Thanks Safiya!
"So what have you learn this summer?"
-The history of chockers holografic and lipstick 😄
"oh...."
전 정국 lol and spelling too.
bro ,,, nonono it is chokers, not chockers. you choke on pizza, you dont chock(e) on pizza. thats a completely different word.

I loved this video 🥰🥰 I find safs voice interesting yet not distracting which makes it like the perfect podcasty type of thing I listen to at work lol pretty concise, definitely did her research and put work into boiling it down!
So much more effort than any other youtubers out there. Keep going with the good work Safiya this is so hard to see nowadays
This is how you do a sponsored video!
I love how well-researched Safiya's videos are 👌

HELLO MY BBs! I'm so sorry for the late night upload, I hope you guys enjoy this strange deep dive into the history of lipsticks! Who got a notif for this video? Love, Saf
love how you narrate............. safia pls post more history related videos
some history revision is needed!!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed!!
Since you made a 2007 fashion video, can you maybe make a 1997 fashion video? That was my favorite.
Zoë Thompson she wouldn't have been that old
Jade Green Yes she would if she was born in 1997 she would be 20 now but she wouldn't really remember anything but if she was at least 7 she would only be 27 now so I think it is possible
Katie Li my brother was born in 1997 and he's 19. Not really relevant...um I'll go now
Zoë Thompson Thats the year my sister was born
Jade Green She Would Only Be 20 If She Was Born In 1997

SAFIYAA! i love this video! best history lesson ever. seriously appreciate you having older version of lipsticks bottles along with the older soldier compact with blush. It is very fascinating to see how lipstick has evolved. Keep killing it girl
I love how she put so much effort into her videos
