Back when I ran a MC server, we had a chat filtering plugin setup that would change chats similar to “op me” or “can I have admin please” Into a variation of “ban me” or “can i be banned please”
It was hilarious watching them backpedal, and try again, only to say another variation of please ban me.

And the moral of the story: Lying might work someimes but if you just tell the real story you have a pretty good chance of getting what you're asking for.

damn this brought back memories. back in like 2013, i remember that my brother would try to do this and was always oddly successful with it. just going onto random little servers and asking for op. i remember watching him just messing around with his privilages. building shit with world edit and what not. a couple of times he mammaged to convince some owners to do the same with me, and then we would both get to fuck around.

If he had done this on the Minehut Network he probs could had convinced more Admins/Owners to OP him. As those server owners aren't the brightest lol

Even as an ex-minecraft admin of 18 months I have no idea why people think asking for op is a perm ban offence lmao. Its harmless fun, if u aren't buying it just laugh it off

Man, these in development servers give me major nostalgia for the good ole days of Minecraft.

I remember back in the day, I used to troll admins by saying "The server is a bit laggy, can you run '/stop lag' to halt some intensive features, it's a WorldGuard feature". Googling would show the real "/stoplag" command, and people just blindly type the command I suggested, translating to running "/stop" with the kick reason of "lag"

I remember I was a long-time player on a server that I played on since I was 12. I was a hella annoying player and I'm pretty sure the owner refusing to ban me played a part in the server dying (yes I was that obnoxious). I asked to be admin but was denied, but 4 years later when the server was virtually dead I was given admin privileges on a whim. Of course, I was older then and didn't care nearly as much, but it felt like such a flex. I wonder how the old players would've reacted.

The 2nd to last server seems like a wholesome place. Please don't wreck it if you join! The owner seems super nice and let's not take advantage of that.

I cannot understate the impact this video had on Union SMP. Due to this video and at the end of its life Union had 2,500 unique players join. Unfortunate the server owner deleted the server after eight months even though it still had an active community. However, the community that got built was so strong that today there is a sequel, Reunion SMP! Well hello there, I'm a developer on the first server you joined (texture artist, spawn builder, outreachy person). Pretty much all of us have been playing for 8+ years, and used to watch icanhasgrief back then. Some of us even watch you!
You didn't get banned for asking for OP, you got banned because you were flyhacking earlier. We write out own plugins, and can tell when people use flyhacks through enough packet sniffing. Had you just used freecam, we wouldn't have given a shit.
If you want to get unbanned or just talk to the owner Accell, I can get you in contact with him.

Now you should pick a single server and use all of your alts to take over a random minecraft server

I tried something like this years ago during the pocket edition days and surprisingly, the admin actually gave me OP. But then he took it away 5 min later cos the other admins were yelling at him.

I actually did this once, but straight up just asked for op, no reasons for me to obtain it. I was just joining random minecraft servers, and I got op on a few servers. I mostly explained to them that it was a bad idea to op random people, and did a LITTLE trolling every now and then... it was fun!

First server - banned - i burst into laughing

This is genuinely so wholesome. Just a harmless social experiment to see how far we’ve come. In many ways, we’ve gotten better (no longer believing common lies, being more skeptical), and in other ways we’ve gotten better (not a typo) (trusting people, or at least allowing a conversation of the topic).
I’m not sure I agree with instant banning of a player for so much as saying “OP”. Or asking. A simple “no, stop asking” followed by a “keep asking and we will [mod action] you” if they continue would probably suffice. It just comes off as petty. That would be like getting your internet shut down by your ISP just because you sent a bad tweet or few. (The minecraft world would be equal to the internet, while chat is akin to a social network). Perhaps ban them from chat, not the server. At least at first. They haven’t broken rules past that, and I sure don’t believe in guilty until proven innocent. I get “my server, my rules”. I am stating opinions. But, it comes off as callous and petty to me.
Even if it’s for saying you’re a mod from PM, I still don’t think the instant ban is justified. You could at least ask for proof, do a warning, kick, or mute. Just because someone is lying doesn’t mean they have bad intentions.

Someone once did this on a server of mine, so I started using the sudo command to make him type in all sorts of malicious commands and blamed him for them and then banned them for it.

Holy crap, hearing “I work at planet Minecraft” unlocked so many repressed memories for me. I can’t believe we actually thought that would work back in the day.

This brings back so many memories of trying this when I was 11-12 years old. 2013-2014 minecraft will still be the best times I’ve ever had in all my years of gaming. I remember one time an admin gave me world edit privileges, but I didn’t know how to use the world edit wand at the time and got banned immediately.

When I was admin on a survival server, hacks like freecam weren't disabled but they pinged the anticheat so I could go look at the player to confirm and then handle them. In future if you want op its probs best to not use a hacked client as chances are a few of the servers you tried knew you were on Meteor so were never gonna buy it. Even with client spoofers some anticheats can detect hacked clients on login too.
If u want op and they give it to you then you don't need to hack, if they don't give you it then you just leave and you don't need to hack. Using a client seems like unnecessary risk in this sort of video

Oh man. I used to play on that server relatively frequently a couple years ago. I was a donator and everything.
I ran a record store/pawn shop, and was sorta well-known for being the only shop that actually bought things from other players.
It's wild. The names I recognize from back then all made mod/helper. I might have to swing by and say hi some time.

I just released my server to the public today. If only I did it a few days earlier.

yeah I remember when I was 13 or around that age I went on a server and asked for op. didn't say I worked for planet minecraft though. and I just did it to annoy people because it was against the server rules. they kept banning me for a couple minutes up to an hour before finally perma banning me

1:31 - Fun fact, in Czech Minecraft community it´s a rule #1 on most, if not all, of the servers. Asking for OP might lead to a ban, at least it often used to back in the day (some years ago). I feel like today's admins are more chill though, so you will most likely only get muted - but as I mentioned, in the past people were getting banned on regular basis just for asking for OP - maybe that had something to do with the fact that a large amount of players were actually warez (offline/cracked game) and admins had to deal with 50 kids asking for OP every day so they just ended up making it a banable offense.

Look at all those power hungry admins. He was just asking for op and they instantly ban someone for that? He didn't do any harm.

Firstly, I'm glad to see this was for a joke because we were all worried you got hacked or something... As for the quick ban, we generally have very little tolerance for people who very clearly are not intending on doing anything good. (You asked for OP, so we knew you weren't worth keeping around. Your client also got picked up by the anti-cheat a lot). Good to see all is well though, this got a good laugh out of me!

You should do this again, except this time actually provide a review on Planet Minecraft based off how they respond.
RadMCOnline, this server is run by hot tempered admins who banned review staff while trying to review the server. 1/10 stars, would NOT recommend.
Bet the admins would be fuming and mad as fuck. 😆😆
