That's a tough one. I'd love the R6 for stills, but the a7sIII for video... It doesn't help the decision when both systems have a fantastic assortment of lens options!

R5: For people who shoots both photo & video equally (need a Ninja V for long forms of recording)

I am playing around with a used a6300, and cinebloom 10/20 filters in 4K. Beautiful footage, perfect for b-roll or even A roll for short projects. That is the real difference between the R6 and the Sony a7siii for me, that no one seems to be talking about .;-) By now Sony's used camera ecosystem is as vast as Canon's EF used lenses. In fact, I am using Canon FD cameras on the Sony system. Sure the R6 is great, but there have been awesome cameras from every brand lately.
Get Phantom LUTS for the Sony and you’ll have colors that match an ARRI cinema camera. It looks gorgeous and no tweaking needed

Been a Canon shooter since the original Rebel XT days. Never had full frame until recently when I went for the A7C, unfortunately the R6 was out of my budget and I was not going for the EOS R. If budget wasn't an issue R6 would've been my choice because of I'm a Hybrid shooter so the photography aspect is just as important as video. Switching to Sony was quite the adjustment but I don't regret it at all. In the near future I'll be looking to get a second camera or if I can justify the A7Siii to have for strictly video projects. Nowadays you really can't lose with all these options but it was still helpful to see the comparison.

The a7SIII is the beter camara for sure, but the the Canon colors are simply unbeatable.
With a bit more practise I could get closer to the canon colours for sure but because I’m used to the canon, it’s easier for me. But yeh I did like the Sony for its range. Thank you for watching as always Will and for commenting 🤩🙏🏻🎥

Vlog/tutorial LOVED this!! The Sony looks super nice I do like that it has more dynamic range. Like you said ticks a lot of boxes but that price hurts a little lol but for sure make that money back from shoots. And I have an old Sony a6000 and it did that noise too haha turned that off real quick 😂 Great video as always bro 🔥🔥

@@SamHolland Lol I don't want that xD it is pretty decent just no flip screen or audio input so in a controlled studio environment its great! Outside I tried a small cage having a zoom h1 with the rode mirco, the sound improved but the grab and go became clunky. I mean you can get those small sticky deadcat stickers to help with wind on the onboard mics but loose that dynamic audio of the one talking, especially in the city where I usualy vlog lol and always bro love your channel!!

I had the Sony A7iii and I know that it's a good cam. But I just can't work with it. I'm a Canon Boy. I like how the cam fits in my hands and how it feels in my hand, how it works, the AF, and so on. Those are both good cams and you should choose on what it feels better for you, not on what others tell you.

Hey Sam! Feels like ages (too long) since I last watched an SH video. Busy times… I’ve been on the fence for ages about switching to A7siii from the EOSR, and it would be an easy start since I still haven’t sold my E mount 24-105 from when i owned an a7iii. i could theoretically just ADD the a7siii for video and keep using my EOSR for photos. As you say, the screen and ease of use are hard to leave behind, so ultimately, I think I‘ll just wait to see what comes after the R3 (R5 Mark II?) and then make a decision. Canon will surely respond to the A7siii: I want, better DR, no record limits, no crop and no overheating in 4K. Then I‘ll stay in the R system. There’s lots to love! Anyway, that‘s all I have for today. G….no wait, it‘s your channel lol…Morgan is awesome btw. Cheers!

Better DR is a hard ask from Canon. They haven't down that ability yet and even their much expensive cinema cameras have to read the sensor twice (costing worse rolling shutter) just to match the DR of Sony sensors used in Sony, Panasonic, Blackmagic bodies. I've held on to the EF glass for so long but Canon despite the huge marketing push with R5, R6 barely improved, if any, in terms of DR. Recently took a plunge and switched to a7siii. My only regret after using it is that I didn't switch right away when it launched. DR, highlight roll-off and Rolling shutter are wayyy better. Who would've thought Sony who is infamous for their Jello videos practically eliminate the rolling shutter on a full frame camera? I still miss the Canon "polishedness" in terms of raw performance, much happier with this
Canon makes huge money regardless, so there is not much incentive for them to keep pushing their tech.

I had an a7iii. You’d love the R6. But the Sony is still great 🙏🏻📹
I feel like the beep complaint is not a huge issue. The contrast from the canon seems better in the shadows... But during color grading, I bet S-Log 3 beats it a bit more. Overall, Sony is the better event video camera compared to the canon mainly due to the overheating issues.
I have an R and tried an R6 first and sent it back after a week. It overheated after 27 mins and the colors are too warm and I hate the top dial coming from an R. I rented an A7s3 and liked it except the color out of camera looks weird and digital. I ended up with an R5. It does over heat in HQ modes and doesn’t have as good DR as Sony but it does everything else great. I just pre-ordered an R5c and I believe this will be my final “perfect camera”

@@SamHolland I’ve owned an a6400 and an a73. I’ve shot a lot of videos of events indoors and they were amazing for that. But I want to do more cinematic work and think the R5c will be great for that.

Canons IBIS wobble kills the R5/R6 for me. Sony's have their flaws but imo the a7siii is the best bang for your buck video camera on the market at the minute!

Simply not true. Got an SIII myself, but I'd argue the BMPCC 6k Pro is better value as a video/cinema camera.

i love Morgan's reaction to the idea of switching to Sony. I tried the switch when the a7iii came out and it was regretful. The quality was good, it just wasn't as enjoyable to use.

Yeh it’s not as easy to use as the canon. But I suppose once you set up the custom buttons etc you’re away. But I love the ease of canon.

A huge thing all these KRplusrs leave out is SDK (Software Development Kit) compatibility. Sony has just about none. So if you plan on using computer software to take picture I whole heartily recommend Cannon. I am a Sony shooter I have the FX3 & the A7iii but tomorrow I am forced to go to Best Buy & buy a R6 for SDK compatibility. 🙃

It's tough to decide because I prefer the sony codec and the eye-tracking is amazing but the overall look and colors just don't look right. I dont own a canon but if I had to choose I would go with the canon just because of the colors and it also has good ibis / tracking although not as good as the sony.

I left Sony recently after about 4-5 years and have gone with the R6 and LOVE it. I wanted to go back to the Canon colors as I was getting sick and fed up with Sony's ugly colors.
This video is a prime example of how dynamic range isn't everything. I remember how someone had told me that their clients preferred 1080p Canon footage over 4K Sony footage due to how much more pleasant and beautiful the Canon image was.
To each their own, both are great cameras. But I've never been happier to back to Canon. I can't wait to play with C-Log 3 and get even more dynamic range from the R6.

I ended up going with the R5 and its amazing. I was shooting with Fuji before and loved the colors, its great using the R5 cause you get beautiful colors, ibis and af. I thought the R6 already has clog 3 now?
@@charlesnetzler2262 Lucky! I wish I could have gotten the R5, but I found that the R6 was more than enough for the type of professional work I'm doing. But man, the R5 is a great camera.
And yes, clog 3 is out - I just haven't taken the time to record and edit some footage from it so I gotta go out one day and do that :)

I love both systems but the "jello" effect is distracting...
You can switch that off. First menu then tab 7 and you can just rely on lens IS 🤩🙏🏻 still not perfect but sooo much better
In my opinion if you are not recording over an hour video continuously then go with canon and if are then buy Sony. My reason going for canon was mainly the glass, rf glass is much superior than Sony’s plus 4K 30 and 60 fps from canon r6 is much crisper looking than Sony’s as it is down sampled. Also image stabilisation is much superior in canon cameras if you are not using 15-35mm lens. If you have already invested in rf glass, it’s better to stay away from Sony.

I don’t fanboy over which brand. Personally I’m using the r6, but why just stay there? I have friends using the sony and nikon, and we like to get out and shoot together, we hang out and talk about our story. I really hate it when people bashing each other, come on, you’re all creators, stay unite.

I think honestly I’d choose the Canon but that’s me personally. I love the colours and the image.
But it depends if you need the extra slow motion capabilities etc that the Sony offers.

I have both...and both are good!! But I prefer to shoot handled with Canon, the stab is 2 times better. Slog3 is amazing with the Sony ...Both are good...but differents. When I have time, Sony...and for Run and Gun Canon ... I love both in fact. jajajajaja

@@SamHolland Ive had hands on with other REDS but the Komodo could be worth a hire in with the price to own or just rent. Also is still smallish and once rigged out wouldn't be much bigger then a A7s3 rigged out. Image looks sooo crispy not to mention its an RF mount just like your R6.

How does the new C-Log 3 firmware update line up against the A7SIII?
Hey. Did you check my latest video about the c log 3? I haven’t done a direct comparison but I’ll have to at some point. I’m super happy with the c log 3. It all depends on what you like. You can get the canon image with some tweaking with the Sony but you can’t get the Sony image from the canon if that makes sense. BUT it’s £2k less!

@@SamHolland Yup, as long as one is ok with the autofocus, hehe. If advanced autofocus is very important for ones use though I'd go for the R6. Both the S5 and R6 are extremely good for the price they're going for. Insane bargains. The 120 fps of the A7SIII just isn't enough for me to fork out all that dough for it.

I feel Sony offers a a bit more accurate natural colour reproduction in terms of picture quality. Along with that, teh Dual Native ISO, clearly offers an edge over most competitive cameras in low light photography. Of course, lens would be the real deal there, but Sony still manages to fare better based on my experience with my Sony Alpha and a friend's Canon that I once tried. Two different cameras from the ones in question, but all the same. So, affordability put aside, I'd definitely go for the Sony A7S III as my next camera. And I think we're no strangers to Canon's overheating issues when recording videos.
The colors are just bad on the Sony, also remember the r6 is suppose to get c-log3 and that will close the gap bigtime in dynamic range as it will be shooting a better log profile.
Or so I hear lol, I keep looking at this camera too but I just can’t seem to get past my bad experiences with Sony products in years past lol.
I hope they bring clog3 to the R6 but I very much doubt it. They’ll probably do it the week after I sell it 😂 thanks for watching 🙏🏻

The Sony video footage looked like diarrhea compared to the Canon.

When Sony fixes their colors and their ergonomics I'll switch. Until then all Canon has to do is up their dynamic range which I believe they just did with the CLOG3 update, so honestly why would I get the Sony?
