Considering how misused the word satire is, this video needs more views. People call almost anything that makes fun of something “satire” these days. It’s basically rendered the word useless.
@@jamesdaviddupre99 I agree - it is a bad mistake. A speaker comes across sounding like a complete ass when, in an effort to distinguish to easily confused ideas, they say the one thing when they really mean their mother.
You make an *incorrect* statement at 5:18: “A satire’s intention is to incite laughter and entertain. . . and does not require any deeper thought. . .”
This is incorrect. Admittedly, parody is often intended to entertain but does not exclude alternative motives such as mockery (which your video admits) or triggering critical thinking. Mockery is a separate purpose from just getting a laugh as you suggest. In fact, parody is better understood as a type of satire, specifically the exaggeration approach described in the definition of satire.
The video might as well have been titled "Rectangle Vs. Square". Parody is a form of satire; but not the other way around. Parody is mockery and making fun of (ridicule) ... which is part of the definition of what satire can be.
This is incorrect- the parody focuses on caricature of the original or something about the original to make the point - e.g. the original is used as a device. In satire, we are able to make the delivery with mere implication of the original but where several different things might serve as the original without altering the message.
The music is pain in the arse.
Informative video, but the music is a bit loud and it drowns few words here and there.
2 more good examples of satire:
1. Robert Downey Jr.’s character in Tropic Thunder
2. The Phil Hendrie Show
South Park has great satire

Especially when it’s a spoof movie like Scary Movie something 🤦♀️
Superb 👌👌
At 5:18, she says satire when she meant parody.
maybe she was parodying herself
True, a bad mistake in an otherwise well-produced video.
Thanks. I visited the comments to get clarity on that mistake

Came here because I thought Family Guy was parody and Simpsons was satire, and they both got used as respective examples!
Does she know that Liam Neeson was playing a character in that movie?
"Liam Neeson's daughter is kidnapped on a trip to Paris..."

Down voted. Background music sucks. Couldn't complete watching due to irritating background noise. 👎
