My Brutally Honest Review Of The Sims 4 Get To Work

It was such a strange thing for them to add a sickness system and a system in which you take care of sick sims at the hospital, but somehow *your* sick sim can't go to the hospital to get treated.

It's so stupid that this pack is about careers but has no aspirations LOL.

The most annoying think about the staff is when they aren’t doing their job and the game won’t let me reprimand for slacking off because the game says they aren’t slacking off. But there’s like 5 customers not being rung up, and my employee is just chit chatting with others. Like how is that not slacking off? Lol

I feel like there were a lot of missed opportunities with the Get to Work pack for crosspack content, especially when Cats & Dogs came out. They could've added "allergic to pets" trait for the doctor to take care of, they could've added police dogs for the detective career, cats and dogs are also used as therapy animals in some hospitals. Really let down that the team didn't even try it.

The hospital staff definitely need to start checking patients in THEMSELVES 😭

I hateeee the retail career so much !! I used to play with a sim who owned a bakery and from having to schmooze people, she basically became friends with everyone. Which was fine, until she became depressed every 3 seconds because her “friend”’that she spoke to once had died 😭 It was so annoying

I wish sixam had houses. Even if they are fake ones.
Also detective career, important note, some of the clues *are* hidden. You're meant to search for clues on the ground and if you're near enough to a clue it'll find the clue. There's rough hints based on an actual pathing logic. I actually had to search around the hallway for a clue early in the one detective path. And another was a completely mild looking burnt waste basket that actually had a clue too. It's basically a hidden object challenge. Pretty fun.

I really hope they do more refreshes, and that this EP gets one. Because the retail system desperately needs an overhaul. I loved Open for Business and I really want the retail system to be enjoyable and actually useful.
1) Workers need to be smarter.
2) Cash registers need to be used as actual cash registers.
3) Sims should be spending money they actually have rather than pulling money out of thin air. (Some kind of career story progression added to base game would be useful for this, too).
4) Sims should be retaining items they buy in their inventory, and they shouldn't be buying items they already recently bought.
5) Sims shouldn't require talking up to buy an item. I have never needed to have a sales associate sell me something. I either need it/want it or I don't. Usually when you go in to a store in the first place, it's because they have something you already need. Any talking up of Sims should be to "upsell" so they buy or more expensive items rather than needing to be talked up to buy a plate of basic cookies.
6) You should be able to hire your own household members. Currently I need a mod to do this, and to do it in an unmodded game its not an actual household member working at your store. Instead they pull one from your library and you end up having a weird dopplegangar working there instead.
7) You should be able to fill the roles yourself. I shouldn't HAVE to hire a cashier or something if my Sim is perfectly capable of doing that role themselves.
8) Clothing system desperately needs an overhaul. Let us choose the initial outfit, or initial five in each category. And from then on its locked unless you purchase an outfit or have an outfit gifted to you by another sim.

I can’t play this pack without Carls Guide Retail Reloaded mod. It’s amazing and really fixes it up so it’s playable. Also a few Little Sam mods.

I also think this pack is somewhat underated. I really like making shops, and it is fun for building out little shopping areas that are more realistic for a day out with your sims like if you have a cafe and a library and a couple of boutiques. Although the build buy is basic, because of that I find myself using it in nearly every community lot build because of it. Like hand sani and paper towel dispensers.

The problem with the active careers is that if you are playing a family or household, multiple sims, the other sims do not progress if you actively follow your sim to work everyday. The other sims are basically "on hold" while the active sim is gone, upon returning they are even doing the exact same thing in the exact same spot as when the active sim left. This is bad because if you send just one sims to a park for example, upon returning the sims left behind move and do different things, they are not "on hold" waiting for the sim to return.
Again, all the things you wish were there are not because there is no PACK INTEGRATION !!!

Much like spellcasters, scientists are insanely overpowered. Sure, they cannot burgliate or transportalate, but much unlike becoming a spellcaster, becoming a scientist is always an option for aliens, (daywalker) vampires, werewolves, Servos and mermaids.
The best way to break the game is to use the cloning machine on serums like need fixer or age away. It's every bit as good as using copypasto on spellcaster potions.
Also, the bb of this pack may look job orientated at first glance, but it can add so much to every sim's home. Use sixam stuff for a psychedelic party location, enhance your private dungeon with prison style decoration, use lab stuff and hospital stuff for a more techy/futuristic appeal, etc...

Finding this channel was the best thing that happend to me in 2022. It makes me happy, and in a better mental space. Sending love to you ❤️

You have to physically click on the jail cell and tell your sim to lock the prisoner up again once you’re all done with them, which is fine I guess but I wish that at least after a certain amount of time they’d go back naturally

loving this series so far! also love the new background music. waiting patiently for brutally honest review of the werewolves pack.

i had to use mods and the queue fence to:
1. get customers to queue in an ORDERLY fashion (make queue line one tile wide, with one entry point and leading up to cashier)
2. use mod to Ring up at Register
3. use another mod to make work interactions faster (reduce simulation lag, reduce chit-chatting, mood animations)
4. use that same mod for hiring whoever you want, easier managing and instructing your employees to clean, restock etc.
i've quit playing the game for a bit due to the frequent ridiculous game and mod-breaking "updates"

I actually use this pack quite a lot, even CAS. The most disappointing thing for me is the retail system, I avoid it like the plague because it only makes me want to play Sims 2.
I also don't really play the police career, because I get annoyed by all the loading screens, lol.

My biggest pet peeves for get to work is the glitchy animation of the operation table. Period.

You should review Vampires. Possibly my favorite expansion. I'm not a fan of vampires or anything, but when I got a taste of 'Supernatural Speed" from being a vampire, I can never go back to being a human. lol.
It's like having a toilet and a shower. You would not tolerate living in the Middle Ages for a week.

Get to work is one of my favorite ep’s and I wish they would do a refresh of it because it feels really incomplete and kind of broken sometimes.

The fact that most CAS items are bland is actually a good thing. Most people dress rather blandly (t-shirt and jeans anyone?). Get to Work is one of my main go-to for townie everyday wear.

I wish they would fix the invention machine in the Science Career! It used to have great animations and 3D print the object in the middle of the machine. Now it puts the hologram of the invention on top of the player and the animation for the construction robot is broken. I assumed this would have been fixed over a year ago.

I like the scientist career and the stuff that you'll keep from it.
The medical career is very repetitive.
The detective career is quite buggy. You get a description of the suspect, get sent to the area where he should be, interact with ALL of the NPCs present, and NONE fit the description. Repeat 5 times in different locations, and still no suspect to be found.
I don't really care for the CaS part...
Sixam should have at least one fishing spot where you can catch some alien fishes that are exclusive to Sixam.
Stores need a «restock all» option. Also, any display desperately need a «Set all as to sell», instead of needing to set each individual item as to sell one by one. The cash register should have «set all as for sell» that set all items on displays, floor and walls as to sell, obviously skipping the displays themselves, and «restock all» interactions.
When your Sims get sick, you can send them to the hospital to get treated instead of using a medicament bottle.
All in all, one of my favourite pack, right next to Seasons and Realms of Magic. Cats & Dogs is also nice to have, even if your Sim never get a pet, with the wandering cats and dogs.

I love your honesty. Didn't get this pack until much later and it can be fun but kinda repetitive

7:00 this part just made me so sad. finally working myself up to have enough simoleons to go clothes shopping was one of my favourite parts/goals in the sims 2. and yes, you had to pay at the cash register for your stuff.

What The Sims 4 lacks in challenge it makes up for infuriatingly broken. I tried to run a shop to get rid of my useless space rock inventory- I haven't even bothered trying the other careers from the pack. Though I use the build buy in nearly every lot I make.

Ringing up a customer even through the store is closed is unfortunately a realistic aspect of retail and is probably not a bug.

BTW...as you could tell on the scene for the Scientist career, there is a bug/glitch using the invention constructor. Instead of projecting the 3D images inside the constructor like it supposed to do, it projects them onto your sim. And, often when it is constructing the object the arm of it doesnt even move or do anything. The object just appears there after a certain time. This has been an issue for 2 years and has been reported to the EA team multiple times, but it still has not been fixed.

i love the scientist career, i just wish the other careers were given the same amount of depth and effort

I had gotten this back when it first came out and almost immediately forgot that retail was a feature. Fast forward to earlier this year when my sim was invited on a date and I finally, after 8 years, went to a retail lot. Was kind of shocked by how bland it was. Ended the date early and my sim break up with them, won’t be returning there.

Sims 4 is so kiddifed (I know it's not a word but just bear with me lol). When you compare this pack to Sims 2 Open for business, the gameplay value is so low. The police career is extremely buggy the higher you go up the career ladder the more bugs you encounter. I only like Sims 4 for the graphics as it is the most visually pleasing game from the franchise but in terms for gameplay, Sims 2 or 3 is better

I can use this pack on retail to be able to buy stuff that you may need to seek in order to get or unlock/uses a different currency other than simoleons like buying potions from rewards and career gated clothes and furniture.

sometimes the clues not showing up is a glitch, other times it is in a really horrible hard to reach spot or you did scan the area it just didn’t pick up on the clue.

The retail mod is amazong for this pack. The customers will autonomously increase their purchase bar so the challenge really is to run around ringing up customers. This makes it possible to make a decent income selling many cheaper items rather than the game forcing you to sell 1-2 items per day that cost thousands of simoleans to make it worthwhile.

I literally just bought a bundle of packs last night: Get to work, strangerville and tiny living, but apparently my laptop doesn’t have enough space to download get to work cause of all my other packs 😭. Now I gotta go find a flash drive to hold all my sims content

It‘s laggy and it takes hours for your sim to do something, the lots where they work are way to big it takes them 1 sim hour to walk to the other side of the hallway and the workhours are over by then. Not worth it.

I didn’t realize how much this pack brought to the game until I left it in one of the last 4 to rebuy. After I bought it features I remembered always having came back. (My pc broke & I just bought it on console instead)

You have to click on the cell to return the crimes back into they cell and click on the floor to search for hidden clues too it isn't a glitches you just not doing it right

Something that annoys me about the doctor career is how co workers don’t help and when I try to communicate with patients the co workers won’t leave and my sim can’t communicate unless I reset that sim + if I reset patients to admit them to exam beds the game wouldn’t let me unless I’m a certain career level

They definitely need to update this pack a little there is a bug In the detective career where you find the criminal arrest them and take them to jail when you get back they have suddenly disappeared so you cant interrogate them which is very annoying also I wanna add that if you pay for EA play get to work is free to play

by far I found the most annoying glitch in this pack is the plants in science lab are never harvestable. I remember when I first played it years ago it worked but now it doesn't.

The one thing i absolutely hate as alien enjoyer (and i use MC command center to disable the human coverage): alien siuts are so hella ugly and aliens are basic bald. So they look all the same. I can never see my friend walking down the street because it's his 10 lookalikes!!!
Recently i found a mod costumes that presumably is based on alien suit or just by some miracle is in the same cathegory. Now my aliens look like they have fish skin/leaves/crystals in their skin. Sadly just female aliens. But oh well.
If anyone curious it is from creator called Jaru Sims. They have several otfits with names like Fairy costume Leona.
I know it's for fairy folk but it just works for aliens!!! 😂

I refuse to buy get to work because I do not want aliens in my game...I've always hated them and if I don't have to have them I wont.....but its sad because I really want the retail system :(

The most important thing to note when trying to decide if you want to purchase any DLC? The creators seem to have no common sense, so they rely on making a beautiful game that blinds the purchaser from the badly planned out programming as well as the badly thought-out rules for anything. An example is the planet for the aliens. There's nothing to do there, and they shouldn't have even bothered to create it in first place. It's an alien planet with no and/or next to no aliens to meet. You can't build or live there. A useless bunch of rules clogging up the gaming systems. Another example is the doctor's career. The doctor gets an ability to check if a pregnant sim is going to have a boy or girl. But this can only be used at work and while working. You are going to have to wait until a pregnant sim comes to the hospital while in labor. And from my understanding? No pregnant person is going to care about a gender reveal while in labor, especially when they are going to find out in a few minutes when they give birth. And if you are playing with a female sim doctor who is pregnant, there is no self diagnose to check for the gender. And even if you go to work with other sim doctors, they can't check the gender. Another useless rule and ability that is clogging up the gaming systems. Also, you have a lot of bugs running rampant in the game and DLCs. Always remember the creators of this game rely heavily upon beauty, and there's little to no common sense used while creating this game and its DLCs.. The person creating this video is extremely fair while rating this game, probably because they are blinded by the beauty of this game. I have this game and numerous DLCs. And if I am truly fair in comparing this to a game like Halo? I have no choice but to give this game, and it's DLCs, 2 stars out of 10, and that is only for the creator's efforts. Please take it from me? Don't be blinded by the beautiful artwork in this game or its DLSs because that is all it has. And wait for sales if you truly want to purchase anything from this game. Because this game, even with the sale price, it's overpriced compared to quality games like Halo. When Halo malfunctions? They fix it right away, but this company doesn't fix this game or DLCs.. And Halo doesn't even come near the price of this sadly broken and badly thought-out game. Don't get me wrong, I would sing the praises for the creators of this game if they game me something to sing about. If I had the information that I have today, I would have never purchased this game or its DLCs many years ago. But the creators beautiful artwork blinded me, and I fell into their trap. Be careful of EA Games and Maxis. They are a very deceptive company. Not with all of EA Games' games. Watch the game play videos first before you purchase anything from EA Games and Maxis. As the old saying goes? Buyer beware!!

In my game the prisoners got taken back but then my sim would get locked in the cell too with no way of getting out until end of shift. Hope this is not their way of fixing that

Yeah since the name of the expansion is “get to work” maybe that’s why it’s only fun if you work instead of being a costumer tho im sad because I actually wanted to buy this so I can make my sims go shopping but I guess it’s not that good thank you for helping

I've got the pack and started to play it yesterday 😂, here's my observation so far, if you owned a shop and have already hired a stuff to your store, your sim cant go anywhere or do their jobs / hobbies etc. else you need to close your store 😜 wtf
In reality the owner of the store hires stuff to take care of their business, they dont need to stay on the store bec they have a lot of things to do in rl 😂 they just visit the store only if needed, i dont know if this option exist in the gameplay im not sure of it. Is there anyone here know?

I don't like how they added aliens to this pack if like me you are not into things like vampires, witches, science fiction etc, even the ghosts in base game get on my nerves, I make sure to send spirit to the netherworld so that they don't come back, sadly the cats and dogs pack means lots of ghost pets, I'm probably boring as I want my game as realistic to real life as possible, maybe too much so!

Honest the only reason I bought it (and for like 10€ was to have all occults and sixam(because im stupid like that) and because I wanted to be able to have shops and maybe, juuust maybe pretend like we can have multiple properties in this game. Otherwise I personally wouldn't buy this pack lmao

I am thinking about to buy it because of a lot of cool mods. But it really sucks.

I don't think Sims should have clothes are in fashion, because they're only going to look bad in future when they're out of fashion. The only clothes that should be there, 'cause they're iconic, are clothes and hairs from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

If you want to get stuff you cannot get in retail, what I do is a bakery or food shop. So I make perfect nonspoilable food by the owner, and then my other families can get pretty food without having to cook or raise their skills.
Also, I always see them having the item becuase they actually eat from them. So if anyone comes and buy food, they will keep it (which is great with non spoilable food).

GTW is my favorite and least favorite pack. I wish it worked so badddd.

I love the pack but it needs tweaks. It takes sims too long to buy something. Come in, look for a second, pay and get out. But sims will just stand there for hours. It would be ok if it were the odd customer every once in a while that was indecisive or rude to slow things down but they are all like that.

Thanks for this brutally honest review Satch! Did you know that there is a mod that lets sims ring up at the register? It's called Ring Up Customers at Register. I believe it's at Mod The Sims if I remember correctly.

Glad i did not buy this pack, i earned it with Game Pass, absolutely lazy and lacking

Ugly and weak, but the gameplay saves this pack

I have an issue when I control my sims which has a medical career, so I follow him to the hospital and my other sim is a chef. They go to work at different times, my sim which is a doctor goes to work at 8 am and the other sim which is a chef goes to work at 5 pm. But when my sim finish her work at the hospital, of course the loading screen and then my other sims goes home also and his shift isn't finish yet. Is there have the same problem?

An downside to me is that with the later occults, you can copy the features across from the disguises to the other form. But you can't with Aliens! I once spent almost an hour trying to replicate the facial features of my Alien Sim into their human form. Vampires, Werewolves, and Mermaids let you copy the facial features on to the human form but as of 2022 you can't do it with the Aliens 🥲
