Ego Nwodim is startlingly good at portraying school officials. The intonation and facial expressions are spot on.
She's great. I love her in this role.
She's great at so many roles. So nice to see someone who can stay in character!
Ego is the best when it comes to playing the straight foil. Her reactions to other characters' insanity is priceless. Very underrated.

I attended a school board meeting where a man cried because he wanted to change the zoning for a lot he owned. I've never seen a man that large leave as quickly when he finally realized it wasn't the zoning board meeting.
Why did he cry?
@@briansmith5539 probably cause he really wanted to be able to use his land for something and the city was putting a hold on permits, water pipes, septic, electrical etc that all have to be considered when developing a piece of property. There's a famous story of a guy getting so screwed out of permits that he decided to make a tank out of a bulldozer and ran amuck around the city destroying buildings while cops coulding stop the "killdozer". Imagine your entire business relies on a piece of land or location and the city is just like "nah brah" but will take money from huge corporations and do backroom deals for their development. This is all just a guess based on "why would a man cry at a zoning board meeting"

The fact that snl did an exaggerated version of the COVID school board meetings and the actual COVID school board meetings are still more unhinged than this is insane.
Except they got one things backwards. The parents are usually well spoken and prepared while the school boards are absolutely horrible.

The two high school students with the gaming were spot on. I deal with them everyday
Give credit to Mr. Dodd, he was the only one up there asking legitimate questions, actually thinking about the safety of his students, admitting to his mistakes, trying to correct them, reporting the racist behavior at his school, getting a second opinion for clarity, and thanking the board members for their hard work. Compared to all those other whack jobs in there, he WAS doing a good job.
If Owen Wilson ever hosts again, I actually want to see this character in a classroom dealing with the fallout of COVID had on education AND that he accidently segregated his classroom.
There's room for improvement with regards to his reading comprehension, though.

The only cast members who left were Beck Bennett and Lauren Holt (the Aidy Bryant clone). Kate McKinnon is still here, but outside projects are keeping her away.
EDIT: Cecily Strong is now gone. She left after the season 48 Christmas episode hosted by Austin Butler. And Kate, Pete, Aidy, Kyle, Chris Redd, Melissa Villasenor, and short-lived cast member Aristotle Athari are gone as of the end of season 47.

I've seen some very articulate people offer some very lucid arguments only to be cut off at school board meetings by some pretty haughty and arrogant board members.

If you are talking about the CRT bit, then you need to really do your research and not from top selling modern day pop culture race baiters. It is divisive and not critical at all.

Sometimes the board members are the awful ones, like the time a parent stated that she felt like "her white rights were being eroded" and the school board members clapped. This seriously happened at a BOE meeting a couple of towns away from where I live. The town is 98% white.
Cecily is the perfect unhinged person; doesn’t matter if she is playing a politician or a homeless person.
Or someone like Cathy Anne, who probably does have a home, but it's either a trailer or an abandoned building. Plus, Cathy Anne has a lot of good points hidden in her crazy rants and disturbing stories.

Critical Race Theory. Now that the common core hysteria has run it's course CRT is the new school indoctrination conspiracy.
CRT is a look at how laws and the legal system affect different races. Or at least the most generic definition more often it focuses on racist laws in the United States, laws which have negatively impacted blacks and how the legal system has prevented the upward mobility of the African American community. This leads to the reaction that this is anti-American liberal propaganda.
The real issue should be whether or not children are mature enough to comprehend and have a meaningful dialog about this topic or if it belongs in Universities where the students are adults and the professor is a specialist in this area.

From its inception, CRT was predominantly molded by Intersectional Feminist activism and Post-Structuralism. The latter of which lead to CRT's epistemology which is, in my opinion, anti scientific and anti rationalist to the point of absurdism. Also, CRT almost immediately got applied to other power structures beyond the law. You gave a great definition! I wish CRT was that focused in what it actually is.

I've never seen anything worthwhile from Bowen Yang yet so I don't get the hype. I don't see any similarity between his brand of comedy and previous members'.

Sadly, this was not crazy enough to be believable. People actually listened to board members and nobody threatened their lives.

Someone started a facebook group to complain about the school board meetings in my town. This lady does not have kids who go to the school, her only ties were her husband used to work there but he got fired for stalking one of the students. All in all this sketch seemed accurate.
This went everywhere and it actually was kind of like real life.
It was actually tame based on the highlights I've seen on youtube.

My sympathies
Must say, I've spent more than half of my adult life as a classroom teacher. These characters at the school board meeting are so effing dead on portrayals. I simply love this sketch but I wonder if it will still be funny 10 years from now...

My mom and I watch my school’s board meetings since they are live-streamed, and it’s sad to say how this is pretty much how they are just this is slightly more extreme. Emphasis on “slightly”.

Social justice movements are now dominating the curriculum. Racism has been injected into the whole system. Parents are angry and they should be disturbed at these changes. If you're not aware of this, then yes, you should do some research.

Cecily Strong as the crazy lady with folders and notebooks of "research" -- she nailed it, as usual. And Kyle Mooney is always great playing a slacker teen. If only real School Board Meetings were even as easily controlled as this. In real life, it seems, the crazies would have shouted down the folks running the meeting and reduced it to chaos.
