Sing (2016) Dapper Koala Buster Moon presides over a once-grand theatre that has fallen on hard times. 5:10 Rosita not being able to help acting like a mom toward Ash is the cutest.
She learned from them that lance is the problem. The reason moon split them up is becuase he saw problems in lance.
And lance using her as a back singer made her loud and horrible and that she could do better solo. Plus moon thinks rock music isnt good for her voice. So he suggests a pop song. Which she doesnt like.
It made me smile because my coteacher who is a mom (36yo) treats me (20yo) like this and it’s the sweetest thing ever😭

I love that Ash is so sarcastic and bitter, but a lot of it is because her crappy boyfriend makes her feel less than. "Your performance is ruining my song," "not everyone can write songs" (meaning Ash can't write songs because her boyfriend feels he has to put her down to feel better about himself), etc.
And then here comes Moon, thoughtlessly putting her into a box, but also complimenting her talent. Choosing her over her boyfriend. "You're a natural!" Insisting she play her song. And the rest of the singers supporting her.
Ash just SHINES after that little bit of decent behavior. It didn't even take that much. She just needed a little support and believing in her and took off. Beautiful.

Also compare it to how empathetic and level headed she is in the second movie, where she has to help Clay come out of his own shell. Ash probably has the most satisfying ongoing arc throughout the two films (I like the others too, but they tend to get their big moment in one particular film, Ash is consistent).
She was horrible because of lance. She thought she couldnt make it without lance. But after rosita and gunter talked to her, she now knows how horrible and loud she was with lance and that she can do better solo. So shes fixing her mistake by making her own song to play infront of moon.
She let him listen to her singing, and he was wowed. She now knows that buster moon was trying to help.
I just realized that Ash actually wore the dress Buster gave her! She just added a somethings to make it fit her style.
Yeah and wearing the shades of her cheating ex's new girlfriend was cherry on top lol 👌
Can we just appreciate how Rosita and Gunther comforted Ash when she cried? I just love that.

Ikr, even though the characters were all total strangers they didn't let that stop them from displaying compassion and reassurance for each other when they needed it!

I completely agree with you. Mike was the only one who didn’t act that way. It’s amazing how different animals can come together like this. Buster not only came up with a cast of actors and actresses for his show, he turned them into a strong, united family.
Ash is my favourite character from these movies, I love how she has a vulnerable side to her as well, and comes back stronger after her boyfriend cheats on her.

Ash from the Sing franchise and Diane Foxington and Mr. Wolf from The Bad Guys (2022) are both related to and anthropomorphic animal versions of Susan/Ginormica from the Monsters Vs. Aliens franchise and Roxanne and Megamind from the Megamind franchise in terms of Susan/Ginormica and Ash both having love interests/future husbands, Derek for Susan/Ginormica her ex-fiancee who broke up with her for his weatherman ego-obsessed ways and disapproved of marrying her for becoming a giant and Lance for Ash who cheated on her and found a new girlfriend Becky when she began spending more time with the new Moon Theater Family and auditioning for the singing competition which he had no interest in and disapproved of due to having no interest in the money although he and Ash could have used it to start their own music studio as he only relied on his natural talent and due to Buster not accepting him as a constant like he did with Ash (But mostly for likely being aware of his behavior.) also Roxanne and Diane both served as the hero antagonists towards Mr. Wolf and Megamind both alongside Minion and Snake, Tarantula, Shark and Piranha who are all villain protagonists and influence their redemption arcs to change into better people and Diane and Mr. Wolf and Megamind and Roxanne form romantic relationships and become boyfriend and girlfriend in the process (Diane and Roxanne also had brief friendships and romances with Titan/Hal and Professor Marmable their movies’ main antagonists but after they became villains more dangerous than Mr. Wolf the rest of the Bad Guys and Megamind themselves, they broke up with them and Diane formed a new romance with Mr. Wolf after he reformed (Alongside the rest of The Bad Guys now The Good Guys.) same for Roxanne for Megamind (Minion reformed too.))
One more thing, I absolutely love how the the theatre cast care for each other, acting like a family, comforting each other, helping and standing up for each other!! Really beautiful!!

Ash is one of if not THE best character in the first Sing movie! Scarlett Johansson did such a phenomenal job voicing Ash! especially when she sings "Set It All Free" that song is just astounding, in fact i especially love that the song is partly about how Ash's ex was just holding her back from her true talent.
she has the right amount of hoarseness and rasp to bring out the vocals in a unique way
He turned on the TV to watch her after Becky left, feeling proud of her and impressed by her talent.

Literally so much talent. Scarlett really shined as Ash in these movies. I'm so glad she's just as prominent in the sequel as she is here, if not more. She was the star of the show both times!

This is my all-time favorite movie. Literally I’ve been watching it since I was little and I just realize that Ash is wearing the same dress as she did when she was performing, but I didn’t see it because of her red jacket so she’s wearing the dress but with a red jacket on.
A perfect example of someone in a toxic relationship.
Some small details I noticed:
- She's wearing that dress that she didn't want to wear, but the ends are ripped
- She's also wearing Becky's sunglasses
- Just another detail that's not really apparently unless you play guitar but the playing actually matches pretty well, at least for a lot of the close up shots and the chorus.
I didn't even notice the ends of the dress until you pointed it out

Buster loves Ash’s new song that she wrote herself, after her boyfriend cheated, & she broke up with him, which finally allowed her true talent to shine though, & she lets it free. He was excited to hear her sing it. Lance waited until Becky left, before turning on the TV to watch Ash perform, proud of her, & impressed by how talented she was. Johnny barely noticed the quills flying around him, because he was too preoccupied with his thoughts about his dad not being there. After her performance, Ash asked if the audience was okay, & they answered with cheers & applause. Buster walked out on stage among the cheering from the audience, & called her a genuine rock star.
