She has a voice that is instantly recognisable. Very few musicians ever achieve anything like that.
Fun fact: her choir teacher or whatever they were, told her she would never be famous and that she sounded like an annoying goat.
Wonder what they thought when she exploded internationally. She obviously has awesome vocal skills, in a different, unique style that mixes a lot of different influences. Plus she's highly intelligent as well.

Absolutely amazing!!! And I'm metalhead normally... and I don't listen to pop. But Shakira has something what makes me blindly love her. She's so shiny and sympatic and looks so naturally. Everybody can see she loves what she does, she loves her fans, and she's famous because of her music and dancing and not because of the scandals and naked scenes. Maybe that's why she's so wonderful to me.
