That was a good idea
This song saved my life when it was released. I had lost everything I worked so hard for, and I was on my way to give up on everything.
I fell into depression and decided that I had enough. I was ready to bid farewell, and this movie was released. My daughter was nagging my brain out to take her to the movies to watch it. Me in my situation that time, spending 2 hours watching a movie was the last thing I wanted to do, let alone a cartoon. But I felt sorry for my daughter having to suffer because of my depression. So what the hell, I might just take her so she would stop nagging. So we went with my wife and daughter to watch.
Then boom, this song, it was stuck in my mind and made me reflect on each word that night. I didn't and couldn't sleep that night thinking about those lyrics and it hit me.
I didn't lose anything yet. I am just not paying attention to what I really have, a wonderful family and a strong determination that I forgot about.
Maybe I had a shut eye at 6am for about an hour, then went on to wake up with a new prespective about life.
Here I am, 6 years later, as stong and successful as I would have ever imagined, a wonderful family that stood by me when I was at my lowest and still having my back, then on my way to claim my MA in Clinical Psychology very soon.
All this is because of the reminders this song gave me, and my wife and daughter who were always with me.
I still go back to this song every now and then, to listen and smile. In a way, I am thanking the lyrics and everything about this song that made me realise all what I need in life.
If you read my comment, please remember, it is all in our mind, and sometimes we just need a reminder. So don't give up, and find that reminder that can reignite the flame in your spirit.

Thank you for sharing your story. I dived into a depression that I don't remember being this bad as it had when I had been hospitalized back in 2016. I cannot find myself to function right now. Technically I have things that are going for me but my brain is operating as if it's the opposite and even while acknowledging it the situation feels too strong to overcome. I'm going to be a mother by the end of this year and I'm scared as to how this is going to impact the child once they enter the world. The least I want is for the child to go through what I've gone through for so many years.

Absolutely! I think one problem a lot of people have (including myself) is the fear of failure. I realized this after seeing an interview with Gordan Ramsey. His first restaurant shut down, but he's been a huge success ever since. Successful people know how to pick themselves up.

This is a beautiful work. The music is supreme, the lyrics profound. This is the kind of music we listened to back in the 1960s - music that was well written and had an edifying message. I hope our youth can hear this song and learn from it. Outside there are so many negative messages they simply don't need to listen to. Yeah often in depression we get stuck listening to dark music that reflects our mood but it gets us stuck in that darkness. I do ministry (counseling really) and today one of the people I help after over a year of struggle, she escaped abuse and today even after being told we couldn't do it she finally got a RO against him. Anyone reading this don't lose hope their are good people out there who will love and support you. You aren't alone

First things first. I am a 73 year old grandpa. Honest. And as such I am pretty new (just a few months) to Shakira and Zootopia. I am also a grumpy old conservative, so I ain't joking. Contemporary Pop music and the subject of Female Empowerment have never been part of my life.
That having been said, this song (first) and then repeated viewings of Zootopia have completely stunned me. 'Try Everything' has impressed me as being almost as powerful as Harry Potter magic. Words Of Power. I have 2 granddaughters and I now am understanding this 'Empowerment' thing. There is a certain reddit that I read and it is full of people, mostly adult, but with a large percentage of young people crying out for help (help leaving a certain cult) and I have been moved to give encouragement and support to them, and I use "Try Everything/Zootopia" to try and cut through their depression and hopelessness. There are a few more tools I try to use the same way, 'Labyrinth', (Jennifer Connolly & David Bowie), and 'Alice In Wonderland' (2010) and it's Avril Lavigne song (end credits) 'Alice'.
The courage and strength displayed in these songs is simply stunning to me. Rarely have I experienced anything like it, and 73 years is a lot of water under the bridge.
I could go on ad nauseum, but I won't. Shakira, this old Navy sailor salutes you....I mean it....for this healing gift to the hurting young folks of the world. Absolutely amazing work.

Five years later I have a bachelor's degree, working as a paralegal for the state and trying to figure out how to pass the LSAT to continue working toward a doctorate. @@lauracomfere4232 sweetie, do not give up your dream, keep fighting, look for alternative ways to reach your goals and surch the help you might need (special topics of your courses you may struggle with etc.) but overthink it well. It's a dream of many to become a vet, but it can become a nightmare if you get into it with wrong expectations. Thats actually why I finally decided against it and became a biologist instead). But if your heart says yes, fight for it, you can do it xxx
