At the time, both scouts and advanced stats were pretty down on Herbert, but I thought he was a good calculated risk at no. 6. I really warmed up to Herbert after seeing in this video how quickly his mind worked at dissecting film and plays. Smart quarterbacks aren't always successful; they need a quick tactical mind -- absorb gameplans/playbooks, dissect defenses, communicate with teammates, react to broken plays. Of course, Herbert shattered all expectations, even for the biggest die-hard Chargers homers.
