6:15 Vik is pretty much right, just that you have to prevent to water from becoming ice, when freezing it, by taking it out just before it freezes. and yes that is an ice crystal that he puts in the water

Iโd say thatโs not entirely correct. Thatโs called supercooling, the temperature of the water is below freezing point, but the water molecules need time to rearrange into the ice formation (thereโs a free energy barrier that needs to be crossed). Eventually, the water should freeze without any movement, but the rate is very slow such that we can see it remains at liquid form for now. But when we provide some shock to the system or add some solid into it, we are changing the water molecules conformation by force and it solidifies immediately. This phenomenon is actually very interesting, and thereโs been a recent research on supercooling of liquid gallium (spoiler alert: it can remain in liquid form to like -60 degrees Celcius while its freezing point is like 30 degrees C).

Iโm not taking away from your compliment to him, but he was actually inaccurate.
The point is not to keep it moving but to keep it still. Ice needs a nucleation point to form, which is what he is talking about with the ice crystal. The chain reaction is what forms it into ice. If this doesnโt happen, water can remain liquid below freezing .
Itโs actually easy to see.If you put distilled water bottles in the freezer for the right time, you can see the water turn to ice when you grab it because the movement of you grabbing it will form an ice crystal and start the chain reaction. You can see videos on KRplus lol I used to do it hella in middle school.

The only reason vikโs water experiment didnโt work is because in the video when he put the water on top of the cardboard there was a thin piece of paper off the cardboard that stuck onto the glass which allows it to hold the surface tension of the water, you can also do this by place a tissue on a overfilled bottle which allows the tissue to hold the water.

6:30. Essentially ice cannot form out of still water. It needs minerals, air, or other pieces of ice to attach to and form. Also, ice will form very quickly. Once it starts, it will finish freezing over very quickly. The water is below freezing but was left still enough to not freeze. Once you agitate it by shaking it or pouring it out fast enough it'll activate and begin to freeze

The surface tension trick actually works. Some people did it at my old school although in the video it was definitley fake as you wouldn't be able to shake the glass that hard without breaking the water tension.

Dude on the topic of beets, for some reason I never thoughts beets would be good until one day when I was like 14, I decided to try them and enjoyed it thoroughly. I ate quite a bit of them with a salad and the next morning when I went to pee, it was like a cloudy red! I literally just stood there and screamed which led my dad to break down the bathroom door thinking something had gone horribly wrong. Anyway they eventually explained to me that beets can do that to your pee and I calmed down. I legitimately thought I was gonna die

If you want to try the supercooling at home, get a bottle of fizzy drink, open it to let a little air out, close it and shake it up. Leave it in the freezer for like an hour and a half while you cool a glass. When you pour it it will turn itself into a slushy.
Edit: I think also if you want it to freeze in the bottle as a slushy, give it a bit more time and when you take it out the freezer turn it upside down and hit the side to start the reaction
9:24 there is a thin piece of cloth covering the lid. Normally the water would pass through it but because it is a contained glass and the only way to for air to pass through is blocked by the water with a strong enough surface tension to hold itself.
7:25 to elaborate further, after dumping the water from the bottle the air from the outside travels through the straw and enters the gap between the water and the bottom of the bottle.This created pressure in the bottle causing the water to be pushed out by the air continuously entering the bottle.

the reason viks water glass didnt stick is because he used a hard non malleable surface where as cardbored is much more malleable so it is easier for it to create that surface tension as it moulds around the glass slightly

The water holding in the cup thing is real, normally it's shown with a credit card which certainly sounds easier because it won't soak through, creating the tension in the first place, but you definitely shouldn't be able to shake it like that.

9:35 for this I'm pretty sure it has to be cardboard, because when it gets wet it like peeled of to cover the whole top of the glass or someshit.
The coaster was a decent option since its fairly water repellent. The only reason it didn't work was because he slowly slid it out from under the glass instead of taking it off fairly quickly. That made the surface of the water unstable the entire time he was moving the coaster.

If you get a mesh on the glass the n the water trick will work. The surface tension is great enough to keep it in the glass. When you pour it it wonโt work as air can get inside so the trick only works if itโs completely upside down

i have done that glass upside down with cardboard so many times, once my teacher showed that in our classroom
it works and i think it didnt work because vik was not using a cardboard or something similar to that
different substances have different surface tension this is the reason it doesnt work with glass or metals

[Mechanical Engineering Graduate here] In the glass of water upside down experiment, it is obviously fake what they are showing BUT you can use paper and turn it upside down and keep it there and it wonโt spill, removing the paper or shaking it will make it spill. The simple thing happening is the surface tension of the water has to counteract the weight of the water, adding paper will increase the surface tension just enough that the water will stay in, removing it will decrease it and will make the water fall, shaking the glass will also do something similar due to kinetic energy introduced in the glass by shaking.
