I can say that I'm potawatomi and live in Oklahoma. I'm personally offended by the redskins name but not necessarily the logo. I don't care about any of the other teams logos or names that I'm aware of. I also spent the majority of my life just outside of K.C. Mo. and I'm a diehard Chiefs fan. The tomahawk chop doesn't offend me either.

The Trail of Tears was a direct consequence of US government policy toward Native American tribes in the Eastern US during the 19th Century. Not really related to the Washington Redskins. (The team was probably named after one of the Native tribes that lived west of the Rocky Mountains.)

We still have the Cleveland Indians - considering Indians has been incorrectly applied to them for hundreds of years. Of course Braves and Chiefs are respectful names and should not be changed. Same with the Florida State Seminoles, who actually sought out and received the permission of the Seminole tribe.

What is the derogatory part of chief! Chief is an official title inside a native american tribe. Missouri is literally named after an Indian tribe. Redskin is a derogatory term. So is Indian. That is why those names need to change and chiefs, braves blackhawks and seminoles are all honoring the native american history in their areas. Redskins is not.
