  • Carmelo Anthony is calling for more top prospects to attend historically black universities when selecting schools to play at. Melo said quote, “All it takes is one person to change history. It changes college sports because you have a young black kid who is at the top of his game who decided to go to a black university.” Hear what Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe have to say about the idea of top prospects attending historically black universities.

HBCU 🏀 Programs need more exposure. These programs are slept on a lot and if you land some Top D-1 prospects to those schools it would be great. At HBCU'S you will be treated like Family. There will be tons of love and tradition. If you attend a PWI it's the same but you have to work extra hard to get it. A lot of these young elite 🏀 players need that experience and comfort and support that a Rutgers or Oregon couldn't give you.

Thomas Santiago Clarity huh 🤔... here you go. Yes we fought for the right to go to predominantly White schools and fought for shows on TV that represented us and showed our talents, but that doesn’t mean we were WANTED in those spaces. So yes there is A BET and we support it because nobody else supports us, being a place that is showcasing our talents consistently, even though we’ve proven that our entertainment talents out perform most other races, there’s only so many “black opportunities” given, so to create more, this station was made. As far as HBCU’s, coming from a person that went to both types of universities, like I said you can go there but that doesn’t mean you’re WANTED and ACcepted. Especially if your not an Athlete. So you can go to a university where you’re chasing acceptance from whites who never really accept you or you can Go to a Historically Black college that teaches you how to love yourself and your heritage, while getting your education. And it’s called a “Historically “ Black college because HISTORICALLY it used to be the only choice we had. White ppl can attend them and attend on minority scholarships as well. BLM✊🏾

I graduated from an HBCU (Howard U) in the 90's and Ive always wished that more of the top athletic prospects chose HBCU's in both basketball and football. It would do so much for those schools. But I totally get why they choose the top programs. I remember Antoine Bethea coming out of Howard and being drafted by the Colts in '06. Also Tracy White (Special Teams) was picked up by the NFL a few years earlier. Both had very respectable careers in the NFL.

Why in the world is this a leap? Ever hear of Doug Williams, Walter Payton, or Jerry Rice and hundreds of others? Change history? How about knowing our history? When I was a student at Grambling in the late 1970s, Alabama, LSU, USC, Ohio State and the other big schools didn't even have the guts to schedule a game with Grambling, because they didn't recruit black athletes and knew what the outcome would be -- that they'd be embarrassed by a tiny black college on an international stage. At HBCUs is where the best black collegiate athletes all were, before the white universities and their scouts woke up and began paying attention to them in the '80s.

Univ of Hawaii grad here- I don't think there should be much pressure on these young en. The university experience is really subject to who you are. If a HBCU is where a young person wants to showcase their talent, more power to them. Diversity is what makes the public school experience great, and I encourage it- especially public universities!
