Brees has been apart of a locker room where he is exposed to many teammates that are African American. Back in 2016/17 when Kaepernick held his knee protest. The African American teammates have explained and said that it was never about the flag. It is to bring awareness to police brutality on African Americans. Also with kneeing down during the anthem advice was given by a former member of the military too. This means that Brees has been EDUCATED about why the protest is happening. He is not blindly giving just an opinion. He is giving an opinion in which he has already been given context and explanation of the protest. There is also a time and place for everything. He can still voice his opinion, however, what makes him think that this is the time to say something like that considering the climate of the situation happening around the states? That is the reason for the backlash for just giving an opinion.

What’s making everyone upset is the fact that he keeps making the protest itself about the flag, military, and anthem, when that wasn’t what the protest was about. Yes, Brees can have his opinion on disliking the way people protest, but him failing (whether it’s intentional or not) to realize the REAL reason behind and constantly making about something else, which ends up taking away from the point they’re trying to get across.
