We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic..
The Mandalorian is an upcoming American drama web television series, based on and set in the #StarWars universe created by George Lucas, that is set to premiere on the forthcoming Disney streaming service. The series is set to be written by Jon Favreau, who will also executive produce alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson.

Production on the first Star Wars live-action streaming series has begun! After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. The series will be written and executive produced by Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau, as previously announced, with Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) directing the first episode. Additional episodic directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). It will be executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer.
The idea of a Star Wars live action TV show goes back to at least 2005, following the premiere of The Revenge of the Sith. It wouldn't be until Disney grabbed the reins from George Lucas and greatly expanded the franchise that we'd finally get a Star Wars adventure fit for TV-or at the very least, a streaming service.
Favreau's production is wholly separate from Lucas's, which would have been set in the seedy underbelly of Coruscant between the original and prequel trilogies. Instead, The Mandalorian will take place three years after Return of the Jedi (originally reported as 7 years but corrected to 3).
With the fall of the Empire being so recent, the Star Wars galaxy will likely be a galactic Wild West as a very young New Republic grapples with its newfound powers. Right now the only piece of current Star Wars canon that falls within that time frame is the novel Last Shot, which details the continuing adventures of Han Solo and Lando Calrissian.
But the biggest piece of news we have about the show's plot is its name-The Mandalorian. Although a well-known piece of lore for devout Star Wars fans, Mandalorians, and their home planet Mandalore, is a relatively deep cut in the Star Wars mythos.
In the original and prequel films, the Mandalorians are most memorably represented by Jango Fett and his clone/son Boba Fett. While not born on Mandalore, these famous bounty hunters wore Mandalorian armor, which is why the only official image from the show (very top) feels so very Fett-ian.
Aside from the Lone Gunman and the particularly Western feel of the promo image, we're in the dark about other characters who will be in the show. But we do know who will not be in the show-anyone from previous Star Wars films. While it's possible considering the timeline that someone familiar could make an appearance, Favreau stated in an interview in May that his Star Wars show would feature "all new characters."
Disney is working hard to get its exclusive streaming service up and running by fall 2019, and The Mandalorian is set to debut on that service. Whether it will launch with the service or arrive at a later date is uncertain.
Long story short, we've still got quite awhile before we see Favreau's journey into the Star Wars universe, but I have a feeling many more details will flesh out The Mandalorian while we wait.

IMO, it should've been set in the Old Republic during the Mandalorian Wars - but it sounds pretty cool nonetheless.
I know, and it's a shame because Star Wars is so vast, yet it seems they refuse to do anything besides OT. Don't get me wrong, I love the OT...but there's just so much more to be explored.
Like, when I saw Mandalorian I immediately thought of Death Watch and thought of how cool a CW era Mandalorian show would be. Idk, I'm still a little disappointed, but like I said before it still sounds like a cool idea.

To be honest that would just be a war film and, while that would be epic, I'd prefer a gritty space western bounty hunter series

Is anyone else tired of seeing movie after movie show after show or game after game set in the same time frame? The Republic has existed for around 20,000 years yet all we get to see is this tiny blip on scale. There are characters that I absolutely love and that intrigue me greatly but I'm so tired of this. I want to see something new. New places new characters, a different time. They have a near infinite amount of content they could do, yet they seem to have such a boner for skywalkers. I absolutely love the star wars universe but I'm at the point where I dont even care what they release any more.

Yeah, I like the whole Mandalorian story, but I agree. Let's put this part of the universe to bed and get to the OR. I think that's what Benioff and Weiss will be doing in true GoT style. It will be for adults. It will probably be a while before we see this. I love Star Wars mostly because of The Force. I wish they'd keep these side stories for books and comics.

Every time a huge, loud crisis breaks out in the background of the frame, Qui-Gon says, "I don't sense anything". Explosions and people on fire running screaming down corridors.
No one cares about hobo Qui Gon and his plastic looking lightsaber.
With all the recent Star Wars disappointing movie releases, I would of preferred to see Disney explore the origins of the force.. set over 2000 years before the Skywalker saga. A mini series could provide enough scope to explain how the force, Jedi's and the Sith came to be. They don't need to keep moving in and out of the current time line as it stands, thats been done to death. They can tel an ancient story, with new characters and adventures. Just my opinion.
So disappointing that last jedi, Rogue one and force awakens are in the billion dollar club. And SOLO WAS AWESOME.

Force Awakens.....made money....but that was because we were Star Wars starved and it was an long time since one was made. The other Star Wars movies Disney has made, they all have flopped in theaters and financially they haven't made back what is cost to make the movies! What is sad, Disney is now blaming the fans for hating these movies. They are not gonna except the fact that the fans do not like what has happened to their beloved Star Wars franchise. The Last Jedi poorly written, another theatrical flop and didn't make enough money to cover cost of making the movie. And let's not forget this is the movie that killed off The Star Wars franchises main character....stupid move! Why would you kill off a character fans have waited 40+ years to see become the most powerful Jedi? All the previously made movies led to that moment.....40 years we waited for that moment and Disney pissed it away like it meant nothing to nobody! Solo movie....not sure why Disney would even make this movie without Harrison Ford? They could have used the same Technic used in Tron and made Harrison Ford any age they wanted too! Anyways, the movie was so bad that barely anyone went to seen it. It for obvious reasons, flopped big time. Made like $56,000.00 dollars....kidding, but it was total disaster. This was the first movie fans actually boycotted to teach Disney a lesson in order for Disney to understand the fans do not like what Disney is doing to the Star Wars franchise. It sounds like fans are gonna boycott the next movie as well. So, this next one will most likely flop as well. Now on to The Force Awakens movie, this movie did make money, fans did go to see it too...but these only happened because it was the first Star Wars movie made in like 10 years.....what I am saying is....the fans still had hope and quite frankly didn't think Disney could screw up a Star Wars movie at that time.....we now know better! Also JJ Abrams was making it and look what he did with Star Trek. Those were terrible movies and TV series.....JJ Abrams came in and rebranded the Star Trek franchise and made Star Trek cool again.....nobody thought that was even possible. The force awakens didn't wake up anything but rewrote the same movie all over again but with new characters. It was the reboot of the Star Wars franchise. A reboot wasn't needed! So, you did say Terrible.....and yes, these Disney star wars movies are TERRIBLE!!

The problem is that it's going to reinforce Disney's bollocks post-ROTJ continuity where the Republic wasn't really restored and the baffling inept First Order somehow came to power. Force Awakens was such a lazy piece of franchise writing (and Last Jedi was simply incompetent as a movie).

Shame they had to include the post-ROTJ Disney continuity at all. It's such a daft non sequitur to the OT that I just can't accept it as canon.
imo the only way Disney can save the IP is to go backwards into the days of the Old Republic and try not to balls everything up the way they've done with episodes VII and VIII.
It being canon or not is not subjective. By its very nature it SI canon.
Much rather have a trilogy about Revan than anything else (or maybe something from the stormtroopers perspective (that wont suddenly realize that the empire does bad things sometimes and betray it, then become something stupid like a rebel admiral)), but i will cross my fingers and hope this is good.
At first I knew about Jon voicing pre vizla and writing about a series,but I found out it was involving mandolorians I knew this would be a game changer.

Note that there won't be any "rated-R" content on Disney+. However, considering the track record of the people involved with the project, the show should be great. This is the show that has me excited to try the service!

Well, Dave Filoni will be doing a lot with Star Wars as soon as Episode 9 ends. He is the one selected to take Bob's place as president, which used to be rumours but.. . Seems he accepted.

When I grew up watching Star Wars The Clone Wars, the Mandalorian in that TV show just felt like a very unlikable side plot of characters whom I didn't care to see. However, it makes me excited to see how the story goes and how well the characters will be developed now that I know my favorite director, Jon Favreau, is teaming up with these other successful directors. I really want to like this new TV series and hope that it turns out really good! I'm mostly just very excited to see a new Jon Favreau project on the line.

When I read Bryce Dallas Howard I thought about Bo Katan. I know it says she's directing but she has the right looks to play her. It would be pretty good casting.
