Thank you guys for all the support and concern for us over this past week. While we are staying positive, the fact still remains that our parent company closing left a lot of awesome and hard-working people out of jobs. One of my main goals for finding Smosh a new home is getting everyone in our Smosh family (in front of and behind the camera), back to work. These deals do take time, so please be patient with us. Regardless of the circumstances, we're pretty excited for what's to come.

The fact that Ian (THE CO-CREATOR OF SMOSH) didn't have access to all the Smosh channels until now, just shows you how far removed the creators actually were from their own content.
Defy Media was the REAL villain here. The fact that they involuntarily insulted both Ian and Anthony by doing stuff without their careful watch and knowledge. Good riddance, Defy.

Smosh is basically becoming what it used to be, friends having fun, not business controlled. Even though the videos will take longer to be released.
Besides the whole issue of people not having jobs anymore, it's more for fun now. Sometimes less is more, the chanel and Smosh as a brand stared like it is now.

But not everyone can do it for fun. They had dozens of people behind the scenes. Some with families to support and doing something for fun is not a luxury they can afford. It's awesome they're doing it for fun but I'm hoping a new company comes and buys the Smosh brand so they can keep producing quality content (hopefully the new company will give them more flexibility though). I'll still watch them now, even if they're homeless but I really hope all the employees will get a job soon, either in a new place or back on Smosh when a new company hopefully comes.

@@hostgrady Right but why should it be the same? They try new things, they evolve, they change. Seeing the same content for 10 years would have been boring. The new change is not their decision but it might be good for them, we'll have to wait and see.
Man this video really shook up everything. Rhett and Link taking them in was the greatest thing to happen in a long time. I remember being really scared for the future at the time.

Who says they had a commisioned video structure by their parent company. Nobody really knows except them, for all we know they might've had a lot of room and creative freedom to make videos maybe excluding sponsored one.
Im just saying its better for us to expect less from them since they might just play it safe. Unless they start a new formula for smosh then you can color me pretty excited.

On the other hand I came here straight from Anthony's reaction to their company closing, and Anthony is Truly real. Even this seems fake next to Anthony, and I always wish that Ian and the rest of the cast wouldn't be afraid to be themselves in the scenes that aren't acted. Like in the past in mail-time with smosh for example.

legally they can't, defy owns the brand, even if they are closed, smosh is their intellectual property, even this video could be a big complication in the future, the channel can't go on without proper legal assurance, and an definition by defy of what they are gonna do, like, if this video is monetized they could be sued and defy could have serious trouble with the IRS. they will problably get sued for working illegaly once that the parent company is closed, this is no longer just an youtube channel, unfortunately smosh is an asset of an company (opened or closed) and as such they are sujected to business law.
very improbable. they would have to buy the IP of smosh, etc, and that's guaranteed to cost quite a lot.
even if they somehow got the brand for free or at a low price, now that the smosh family has expanded quite a lot encompassing smosh games and the smosh squad and some behind-the-scenes people, they would have to split the profits many ways. it wouldn't be sustainable without a huge capital. especially since the youtube ad-pocalyse.
sure, they can start firing people so that there would only be few members but do you really think that that's likely?
plus we'll probably never get anthony back since he's already so deep into building his own brand.

Anthony Padilla fits their style because he was a founding member of Smosh alongside Ian Hecox, he worked with them for 10 years which was up until 2017 when he quit because he didn't like the lack of freedom they had due to selling out to Defy Media in 2012. Now that Defy Media is out of business maybe he'll rejoin and they can self-employ again or find a less restrictive company.

They arent making money on this, just releasing things they've already shot to keep the channels momentum going, wait and see what happens to clevver when they dont upload. Defy still owns the channels, and the rights unless they buy them back.
