Saw this on Twitter and I feel like I need to share it.. do you all know that a symbolism of A PARROT IN A DREAM is that you'll be a victim of gossip and the parrots represents the opinions that may affect you in a certain way and notice how Taeyong was the one surrounded by parrots? this song really hits home for taeyong, and I'm just so proud of him for sharing his personal feelings, for having the courage to share this to us cause we all know he had a hard time back then and I'm really so fcking proud of him

The way Taeyong wrote this 4 years before nct u debut I wonder how many other gems he has in his little lyric notebook that SM is holding hostage
He has many years post SM to create music and make all the money that comes from being a producer and songwriter (which is a lot more than a performer makes). Out of all the SM talent, I think Taeyong will be the one to have his own company some day (with Doyoujng and Mark as his first signings:). If SM was smart they would give him his rightful piece of Lightbulb because injustices like that do not age well.

The struggles, the unsureness, low self-confidence. The lyrics were really close to him. But he doesn't feel like that anymore. So he didn't wanted to keep the original lyrics." But I do think they should've at least credited him for the composition as they decided to use the original beats & Instrumental

Happy 5th anniversary Taeyong, Doyoung, Lucas, Mark
Honestly I am very proud of Taeyong. Everytime I see him on stage there’s this aura around him that attracts people towards him. He has been through so much that he himself becomes self conscious of his acts. You can actually see that he never really hope for taking the first place in music charts cuz to him being on stage with his members is enough for him. Like seriously this guy deserves the whole world.
He is ever so conscious and gets so uncomfortable when they talk about his visuals or the topic of him being a "leader" comes up or anything which focuses on him rather than all of NCT. He has recieved a lot of hate by some solo stans as well for "being too much at the centre" when it's neither his decision, not his fault. It's how the group dynamic works! Taeyong might be one of the most misunderstood idols though he is the most HUMBLE, SOFT, HARD WORKING, TALENTED, CARING, INTELLIGENT, SELFLESS, BEAUTIFUL being. So proud.

Chang Lyn Ji taeyong wrote the original with doyoung about his life, the lyrics are v personal and meaningful to them both but more so TY.
If you haven’t read the lyrics than I’d definitely do that if you’d like to know more. I don’t think it was TY entirely, when mark and Lucas were added to the song I believe they wrote their parts (ah scratch that, mark wrote his part but i was informed Lucas did not.) but most ppl credit the originator of the song, TY.

A lot of people forget that originally when Taeyong was writing YESTODAY, he wanted it to be performed by him and Doyoung. Because he felt Doyoung was the perfect partner to convey this song's story and emotion. Yeah, the others did AMAZING for it, but we seem to forget Taryong's original vision for the song.

Still can't move on from this. Not everything in music has to be deep. But THIS is deep. Without even understanding the lyrics, you can hear the wistfulness...the regrets in the sound, in the way they sung and rapped. But it isn't really sad. It sounds more like acceptance. And if you look at the translation, you'll fully understand why. They sing of uncertainties and mistakes of the past, and the sacrifices that they had to make in order to get to where they are today. This is truly a gem in their discography.

For those who came after NCT 2020, this song was written by Taeyong with Doyoung in mind for singing this song as a duet. This song reflected Taeyong's struggle as a trainee. The symbolism through color-usage in this mv is beautiful.
Taeyong, Mark, and Lucas are all bathed in a rainbow of different colors during their raps. They all speak of their current 'self', and represent TODAY.
Doyoung's first two parts are in black and white with color animations surrounding him. His parts are about past events, their past 'self' ("A story you can never go back to again"). He represents YESTERDAY.
This disconnect can be seen very well in the transistions between parts (for example, when Doyoung's part switches to Mark's, a colorful animation touches Doyoung and then touches Mark. Once the animation has reached Mark, the screen goes from black and white to color. Past has become Present). The animations might represent the connection of past events to present events (what happens in the past will affect the present).
However, something changes in the last chorus. Doyoung is seen surrounded once again with the colorful animations, but this time as the camera zooms out, he is seen with the other members, and all four of them are covered in color. YESTERDAY meets TODAY; Colorless becomes colorfull. The lyrics also change, adding "Dear Yesterday" (amoung other lines) to symbolize moving on. By the end of the MV, YESTERDAY and TODAY have merged to become YESTODAY, both in the lyrics and the visuals.

I agree, this is easily my favorite NCT song I've heard and it's making me want to really get into them because up to this point I've been a casual listener. I'm kind of intimidated by the 18 (and possibly more) members though...
I can't say I stan yet, but I do listen to some nct because I like to check out different music and different artists. But I've gotta say once you watch interviews or not, maybe just funny videos, you'll get to know them. Just don't force yourself to remember all 18 members, they aren't always together in v-lives anyway. So you can see a sub-unit at a time or like mark, jungwoo, doyoung, and lucas have a few vids together.
I will admit I haven't heard *every* song of like nct dream because it's not my style but by now I can name everybody.
