I have multiple stories of camping or being in the mountains, but I'll just tell this one.
First time I went to "El Porvenir" (A camp at the church I used to go to, I'm no longer Christian)
This time, I was with about 2-300 other campers, and we all had metal cabins. But of course, I didn't check the weather. So I signed up for some paintball and archery tag on the 4th day. Paintball went well, I got a couple welts, but had a lot of fun! Went back to my the cabin I was put in to change. Came back out a nice clean T-shirt and shorts. We got our bows and arrows and started playing Archery Tag. After the first round it started to rain, and some kids decided to leave once it cleared up a bit. Me and about 11 others + the ref/coach/supervisor stayed until it cleared up. Less than 10 minutes into the second round, it started to rain a bit harder. Another 4 kids left. After it cleared up again, we kept playing, but it then started to hail. Most of the kids went back to the cabins to find solid shelter. Me and a couple other kids ran to the gazebo not too far away. A couple minutes pass and some older kids returning from a hike dash into the gazebo as well, including my friend, Kathline. It cleared up again and a few kids made a B-line to the cabins, but the rest of use were still not sure about it. And we were right to be... Another even harder wave hit after about a minute, and some of us regretted it. This one lasted about 20 minutes, and it started to get dark. Me and a few others were starting to want to get back really bad, so the second it let up, me and most of the others made a mad dash to our respective cabins. But after just 20 seconds of running, it started to hail 4 times as hard, so it was like getting hit naked with a paintball machine gun. I tried to take a shortcut through the woods, thinking that maybe I could wait there for a bit, but it was fall, and the trees were dead. So I thought, "The cabins aren't to far from here, maybe I could make it if I run." Man, I was not right. I saw the light of the cabins, and just ran. I swear I broke the sound barrier, but it didn't help. The hail just got harder and harder, to the point I thought I was being shot at. Eventually, after what felt like an eternity, I managed to make it to the path that led to the cabins. But at this point I was starting to bleed and I couldn't make it much farther. Then, I swear to God I heard angels singing. This one kid that was running to the same cabin I was saw me, and lent me his jacket to use as cover. But I finally made it to my cabin after what seemed like another hour of pain. I got some medical attention once in the cabin, and I did have to get a couple stitches. I still talk about this after 10 years!
(I'm still friends with him today, and if you're wondering his name is Caleb.)
