Japan's three main monetary authorities held an emergency meeting on March 27, 2024, to discuss market intervention options after the yen fell to a 34-year low against the US dollar. The drop was the yen's lowest since the middle of 1990, when Japan's asset bubble burst followed by decades of economic stagnation.

Vistiting japan and spending money there is like getting 30% off on everything.
They just rip you off by giving you much less food in plates to eat and much less contents with fancy packages and aggressive slavish bowing.
@@mingouczjcz3800 maybe you should eat less but i guess American's arent able to do that like us Canadians.
@@mingouczjcz3800Are you from America? I visited there once on the way home from international travel and I have to say their serving sizes are the ones out of the norm.
But the price in Yen is also increasing. So... 😅😅😅
@mingouczjcz3800 it's different in japan bro lol. Japan consumers are a lot smaller compare to American who are obese and eat a lot. The biggest annoyance for me was no refills on soda.

"Workers have expressed hope that wages will rise steadily alongside expected inflation"
HAAAAAAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAA. No. Greed has taken over all across the world. Wages don't rise anymore .
Yes they do, Maybe you better get another job if that's your experience
but Japanese salaries has been steadily increasing? once the yen bounces back, their money will worth more too
Greed? More like stupeed. Old people fear changes, japan stuck on 1990 thats why its on decline ever since.
Wages already rose 4% in 2023 in Japan.
A weak yen will hurt Japanese investment leaving Japan and imports coming into Japan will be more expensive, especially oil and energy.
But a weak yen will make foreign investments, tourism, and exports from Japan more competitive to foreign businesses and customers.
A double edge sword.
China has benefited but also suffered from a weak yuan for decades making their exports more competitive to the world.
And this is why nowadays Japan is allowing the export of military equipment.
The Plaza Accord was designed to help Japan's export sector by devaluing the yen relative to other major currencies. The decision to devalue the yen was based on economic factors including a slowdown in growth, rising inflation and high public debt levels. It was hoped that this would encourage foreign investment into Japan, which would help revitalize its economy.
The Plaza Accord backfired~
Doubtful.Japan is not in developing phase any more. Domestic purchase is very important with super low yen like this. Consumers would try to save more and when fed decreases their interest rate and yen grow stronger then the deflation will come again. Not only that lots of skilled workers leaving japan including japanese due to super low salary as yen is super weak
it "backfired" because of "lol no sovereignty"
Actually, the yen and other European currencies were appreciated while the dollar got devalued and the inflation was on a downward trend.
Plaza Accord wasn't to help devalue the yen. It was the opposite. It was to help devalue the USD in relation to the yen in order to make American exports 'cheaper'.
That's literally the opposite of what the Plaza Accord did. The yen was already weak -- artificially "devalued" against the dollar -- to maximize Japanese exports, just like what China is doing today by keeping the yuan weak to maximize Chines exports. The Plaza Accord sought to strengthen the yen to more realistic values, but that caused an asset bubble.
The price of being a US protectorate
how?
The low interest was made in favor of us government for borrowing so much money. Japan is second of all countries in global
No, it's due to extremely low interest rates.

Sell US dollars to prop up yen btw when NO countries hold inflationary USD then it would be worthless right
Nope wrong
That's what the tourists and foreign countries importing from japan are doing now that things are cheap. They are selling dollars (or other currencies) for yen.
The problem about comparing yen to the dollar is that the dollar has decreased in value significantly as well. $100 US dollars in 1994 is worth $214 dollars in 2024. 114% decrease in value. This means the yen is also worth less than half of what it did in the mid 90’s.
can you even clculate?
We are not comparing currency in time. We are comparing the exchange rate between the Yen and the Dollar in the present. Two completely different things
That's not how it works..
Thanks for this news 😅😢😢🙏
Reason why is because they didnt go with the inflation prices that happened everywhere. This is the cost from it.

Nothing to do with being allies with the US. It is due to the policies of the Bank of Japan.
Nothing to do with USA, all currencies fluctuate
Plaza Accords and probably being forced to buy us treasuries at gun point
Even though exports are doing well. But imports are f-ed, AI technologies (chips, GPUs) and even foreign tech talents needed for competition will be very expensive for Japan.
Cheaper yen and cheaper wages...

Is this a result of Japan's Central Bank recently changing from a negative interest rate to a positive one?
It's the result of American interest rate increase. They do it to strengthen dollar so every currency is gonna be weaker compared to dollar. This basically means the US exporting its own inflation to the rest of the world.
@@MGZetta But the US is raising the interest rate to dampen their own inflation.

Not surprising. It's not a coincidence that all the slavish countries tied to the US at the hip as allies haven't seen GDP per capita growth for 10-30 years i.e. Australia, Canada, UK, Japan, etc.

What the use of Japanese yen pegged to the dollar?
I know right , just change the peg rate if dollar is becoming weaker
This is what they want btw, they are a vassal state
Nonsense
Correct
On menu😊
The biggest issue is they are too reliant on USD. Most businesses, export, imports, etc are done in Yen and USD, but they hold so much USD.
There is very little need for Yen except for its population. However, the population is declining and birth rate is low so there isn't enough people to use and need Yen.
This will continue to be a problem unless there is more value and use for Yen.
On top of this, U.S prints so much money which causes global inflation. If any country prints as much money as U.S, their economy would collapse like Venezuela.
However, USD is unique since it is considered the global currency so U.S can export the inflation to other countries globally. The more countries and business that buys USD, the less U.S will see the impact of inflation.
Even exporting inflation globally, U.S is still experiencing hyper inflation so you can see how much money they print.
Now with Japan, holding so much U.S debt and using USD so much. The only way to not let the money the lent to U.S become worthless is to buy more USD to offset U.S inflation.
This essentially reduces U.S inflation and increases Japan's inflation in which they have don't have much other choices.
I’m a tourist in Japan right now. Oh the savings! I bought so much Pokemon merchandise that would have cost me an arm and a leg back in the US!
the yen is gonna go up big time in the weekend. Sell usdjpy!
Changes to the economy are mainly made in the physical world. Playing around with numbers won't change that.
So the solution to this is also in the physical economy and they will have to find ways to add more physical value to the economy and do so in a constructive and planned manner instead of tweaking the numbers in the hope to make it easier for investors to squeeze even more wealth out of your economy and then not re-invest that inside the country. If that happens you will see a boost in the short time but a major decline in the medium to long term.
Meanwhile, Go-bar holds more value than Rupee 🙄
