Welcome back everybody my name is Tucker this is Sporting Logically, and today I wanted to once again talk about NBA player salaries. I have talked a lot on this channel about how much players get paid, but for the most part it has been relative to their on court production or to other players at their same position... the discussion has always used the context of the NBA to compare the amount of money they make, but recently there has been a lot of discussion in the comments section about the annual salaries of NBA players relative to the rest of the working population.
Two weeks ago, I made a video about how Isaiah Thomas lost $100 million over the course of essentially 16 months... which has quickly become the most commented on video I have ever made. Many of the discussions have centered around whether the Celtics were wrong to do what they did, whether or not loyalty in sports is truly dead, and... to my surprise... a whole host of comments about the millions of dollars NBA players and professional athletes in general are paid to play a sport for a living. The opinions themselves didn’t really surprise me, as it is a very common statement for people to make that professional athletes make too much money, it just wasn’t a discussion that I expected that particular video to start. But since it has, let's talk about it.

The question is not just about NBA players. It is about being part of the top 0.1% in your field.
NBA players represent the top 0.1% of basketball professionals in the entire world.
If you take the top 0.1% in food industry, education business, banking, real estate, health industry, technology, movies and television industry, book writers, etc., they make a lot of money.
Always ask yourself: Where do I rank my industry (across the entire world)?
Am I in the top 0.1% in my industry in terms of services or goods I provide?

The US has a cap on new doctors every year that's why health care is so expensive over there it was a law to run medicals school training through the government so that they could be sure docs were qualified but they didn't increase how many people could go through the training every year so the population increased but the percentage of doctors decreased. so now doctors fight to keep the limit so they can charge more money. red tape in action.

    My Opinion on this argument:
I think that the salary cap in the NBA cannot be compared to non pro sports jobs. The NBA as an organization would make more money by attracting a large radius of people throughout the country rather than advocating for a few highly populated areas. Since the salary cap spreads out the talent in the NBA, it would attract people in more places in the US to support their local NBA team. The salary cap lets the NBA make more money as a whole and that directly reflects on the players.
If you are comparing salary of NBA players to relative to the salary of jobs, then it seems like they are way over paid for what they are doing. If we are frank, the NBA is pure entertainment. People are being paid tens of millions just to put a ball in the bucket and I see how that can upset people. Honestly, that money could be used to do something that is better for society.
Though what people don’t address is that entertainment, sports, is in high demand. Since tons of people consume it, the value of it rises. People need something that they can just enjoy from time to time and the NBA provides that. The fact that NBA players make lots of money show how important entertainment like this is important to people. If people thought that NBA players make too much money then people would just stop watching the NBA.

I feel NBA teams should have a balanced max cap of $100m , $10m each max for the best players, and bonuses added depending on how well they do in the regular season and playoffs.
Also make it so only 2 players can make the $10m, and have others be at $9, $8 , etc. this would make all teams competitive, as it seems now it's all about the players being greedy F**ks, as they are playing with others and can't do it alone , so better for them to sacrifice a little.

Someone like LeBron should be paid higher than others, but I wouldn't use the word "Considerably". I would just think at a higher rate. Could a player afford to make 10 million for a contract instead of 20? Would it hurt them? No, but people would say (50% of the revenue)..right that revenue that is made from outrageous ticket, merch and consession prices that all do not have to be as so either. But the consumer suffers because the owners take it too far. So that revenue itself explains they make too much that goes into that 50/50 split.

I think that tickets should cost less, nba games should be televised world wide for a much cheaper price. No person needs to be paid that much. Also G-League players need to be paid much more, at the moment they struggle to make a living from this and need to be paid more as a developmental cost for the future. I agree that they deserve it compared to the owners but everyone deserves less.
In saying that these guys are the best in the world, they have applied themselves to this to be in this position. Also they often are away from their families more then any other profession during the nba season.
In the end the money is there, owners and the league have decided to allow players to get this amount of money which they deem fair.
