@@pjballs69 the QB did a fake, then sprinted in the other direction, so we had no way of knowing which way he was going to go, therefore negating any attempt at "shuffling out of the way". And he was a ref, in the field, and the QB (who isn't really supposed to run the ball and isn't trained how), was running straight at him. On top of all that, the ref had no protective equipment while the player had plenty, and might have been seriously injured if he'd tried to move out of the way and gotten hit at that speed without bracing himself
