I mean... they certainly do follow the old Top Gear format. Like... EXACTLY. As in, they are flat out stealing it. Tyler even called his Ferrari "plucky" in this episode.
The current top gear "boys", anyone could replace as they're awful! The gentleman from Grand Tour however can't be copied... many have tried and failed!
Well they should be considering they are copying Top Gear wholesale, everything from the premise to the cathartic summary monologues about how perfect "plucky little" "imperfect" cars are, it's the whole formula.

exactly, I was thinking with this episode being around Florida which is Freddy's home, maybe something on the santa fe trail or something starting in Kansas out where Tyler is. Theres a lot of potential for more. Maybe something along the lines of the most fun car for under $4000 or something instead of just getting a corolla or such at that price
I bought a BMW in Pennsylvania for 1500 and drove it to Florida with no issues. A thousand dollar car challenge would be really cool!

It's so cringey when people say they're "copying" Top Gear. They're making their own unique content and while you can draw some lines between this and Top Gear, it's completely different.

I've never watched any other top gear so don't know how the new one is but I hear it lost its identity when the 3 left. The grand tour is fucking amazing tho.... So glad they left the bbc

Yeah, the format is unapologetically Top Gear, but format is only half the equation, the other half are hosts and these hosts work. Perhaps not to the standard the old Top Gear team, but hey, there aren't many teams that can hold the candle to them, not even the team BBC got after firing Jeremy while these guys do.
Freddy's voiceover on the scenic route was the stuff of legends... the drone shots of the ferry were special too. Can't wait for Season 2!

@@kamelslife2844 Than the Top Gear versions without Clarkson.... is what I qualified my statement with. Did you ever watch Top Gear America? I'd definitely rather watch another round of Car Trek. They will only improve on this. There are good bones and it is enjoyable. The non-Clarkson era Top Gear versions are contrived and "forced". But, that's my opinion and the internet is full of different ones.
Tyler & Ed couldn't have picked better cars for this and Freddy couldn't have cheated any more if he was the lovechild Mark McGuire and Lance Armstrong.

Pffff! If I make a par or birdie, write those down... Otherwise, gimme a bogey and lets move on.... It's a blast. Freddy, thanks for your comment, I hope you continue your career as a cart driver. It might be the best gig in the world. If they get crappy about it in the clubhouse, tell them you just had shoulder surgery, you just wanna go out with your friends & drive the cart... they'll charge you a nominal fee, and you can go out and have a blast....
