Today I tackle the janky and badly welded, but still extremely expensive shifter in my cheap Fast & Furious Lamborghini Murcielago, with help from Tony the Welding Jedi and a $1 bolt we bought at the hardware store!

He's a real welder,no grinder needed after. If you have to use a grinder on your welds, you're a grinder,not a welder.

(You could probably get someone to CNC the gate for quite a bit less than $700, though.) (And then make 10 of them and sell the spares to recoup some of your repair costs.)

Or, try this: 3D scan the OEM gate, CNC a bunch of copies (with "not for installation in an automobile" or something engraved on the bottom) and sell those to your fans. Already got a couple of T-shirts. This would be better. :)

@Tavarish With the way Tyler blasted his mild mannered Car Wizard into fame, reaching 100K subs in six months (I loved how he said "finally" when that happened) I'd say Tony has a rare YT golden gate to walk through if he so chose. He's definitely a humble likable guy who knows his trade, I think a good welding guru is what's missing on the YT automotive circuit.

You should of fixed it how you initially said,,, but tapping threads onto it. So the shift ball and lever split will land below the shift gate like lambo intended

@@maxmohr6613 any plans to make the grips in other colours would love to see green since all my other green snap on tools
@@choppedandscrewedcustoms Knipex will not produce their grips in other colors then blue,red, grey, black and yellow, but there are other brands which are exactly the same pliers which have their grips in green and other colors. Same quality but other brand on it and of course produced in the same factory.
I like packing up the Hash Pipe with Rocky and getting all schmoked up while watching Tavarishs videos.

I love the vids with Tony, you guys balance eachother out perfectly! Tavarish being his loud, energetic self, and Tony just humming along at his own pace. Tony should definitely start making some vids of his own, I think he'd make a calm nice channel for welding or car stuff or whatever he might do :)

Are you planning on towing a truck with it?
The guy is a dumbass. The lost tensile strength after welding will also have that little bolt bending after a few smashes through the gate.

I would’ve put a drop cloth down to protect all the wiring (electronics) and the rest of the interior, from flying sparks.....
As a technician i would say 12.9 was not the correct choice since it´s very hard but could be brittle especially with the excess heat from welding, it´s essentially quenched now, it could snap. Maybe you wanna anneal it now. As you said it´s tensional load that the bolt can withstand not so much the lateral. Just a thought...
