I'm a 44 year old man and my favorite music is 90s alternative and metal, and I have never been ashamed to love Taylor and listen to her albums over and over. She is so much more than a pop star, she is a timeless artist who has much more in common with the folksy rock of the 60s than any pop singers. She reminds me of Bob Dylan.
She is as important for this generation as Dylan was to my generation. A genius songwriter.
Sheโs a storyteller too. Songs are better when they tell a story.
She is operating on a much higher level than your average pop star, that is for sure. But she is no Dylan. And she shouldn't be. She has a different audience, a different approach, and lives in different times. If Dylan were a 25 year old singer-songwriter now, he would never become popular. He would be too complicated, to elitist and too smart for our age. It is sad, but true - people don't want Nobel Prize worthy lyrics in a song anymore. They want something simple, quick, slick - something that could be listened to while taking a bath or crunching fruits in a blender. Just so glad I got out of this kind of experience when I had a relationship with this person who is 8 yrs older than me like more than 4 yrs ago. I ended it after realizing my worth since it traumatized me. Now, I am glad that I am no longer feeling any pain. I can say now that I have finally healed from that trauma and proud that I have moved on from it. I am now in a very happy relationship with whom I can call my soulmate and whom I love soo much genuinely as much as he loves me; I don't even have to try so hard, and he adores my weirdness and quirks as much as I adore him. I am just discovering TS and I am truly blown away. 68 years old and listening to her makes me feel the emotions of a much younger man. I grew up in the generation of Don McClean "American Pie". A really long song and famous for its notoriety and how it dominated the airwaves for one particular summer of days gone by.

"So casually cruel in the name of being honest" has always struck me as such a beautifully and tragically accurate statement. I adore that lyric. It applies to so many things - it's universal.
I broke up with a girl in my 20โs because she was very religious and I wasnโt at all. I couldnโt see a future and kids together. I remember coming to that conclusion and breaking it off with her (after several years together) just so casually and matter of fact. I was trying to be honest but it came off casual and cruel.

Empathy is the key, but if you no longer love someone and you think you're better off apart is it worth pretending to be broken hearted about it? People usually grieve the relationship in the process of deciding to end it. So by the time they ARE ending it, they've already accepted it.

I can understand why she didnโt release some particular lyrics until now. They punch me in the gut over & over again, imagine how hard it wouldโve been for her. To be bruised again & again by the one you believed to be your twin flame, the one you perceived as someone who thought you two would spend the future together. The way this song moved everyone back then, and still fills everyoneโs eyes up, even now, even though many of us have spent the past 8 years listening to it every day. When the original Red album came out over a decade ago, I was going through a painful breakup, and it really spoke to me and got me through. Taylor helped me through that breakup all those years ago, and sheโs helping me through the ultimate breakup now. Sheโs helping us all to process, grieve, and heal. Itโs therapy. But, most of all, this song is a monumental gift to humanity. And she is a treasure beyond words. Thank you, Taylor. Thank you. Thank you.
