I was sad but understood when the Philadelphia Zoo did right by its elephants and gave them up. I wish they could have found a way to make them a habitat that would basically have been the whole zoo, or a good portion of it, that would have been a sort of Habitrail or long enclosure that went around the perimeter or wound through the grounds. Part of the zoo experience would have been trying to find the elephants. They could have had their forage distributed throughout so they'd have to travel to get food just like in the wild. Yes I know the cost would have been prohibitive not to mention the disturbance and inconvenience of construction. Oh well.
it's so sad that elephants and rhinos and other rare species can no longer live safely in the wild and though it is not the best life it is at least safe and free from hunters and poachers. Maybe one day a better option can be found but for now we can be grateful for the help provided by certain kind people who realize how important it is to not allow these species to disappear.
It is going to be so beautiful and spacious . The elephants will have a great life here.
