This lady is a genius in this storming and rough global times. Her partita does not show up or looking for more attention. You hear every single note clear and she’s painting the spirit of the composer. The 2bd Chopin- sonata was one of the very best I heard in the last 4 decades. Not too fast but moreover deeply inspired and matured. For me, she is legally the next generation on the same level like Aturo Benedetti Michelangeli and Maurizio Polini! Thank you so much for having you in this world!

Oh wow. I was in tears at the end of the Bach Gigue. Such beauty and touch. The Chopin reminded me of the many voices in Schubert's "Erlkonig". She finds the inner voices of Chopin and the struggles he must have had. Such emotion she brings out in her playing. An absolutely wonderful artist.

Rana has the rare gift of making you float on the lines she spins. The Sarabande of the Bach Partita is magical and she cocoons us in the middle section of the second movement of the Chopin, though somehow she misses the serene transcendence of the central section of the Funeral March, which needs to be absolutely even to float off the keyboard. Her tempi in the first movement are surely too extreme for it to hang together as it needs to, but the finale is wonderful - sotto voce it's marked and sotto voce she plays it. (I think the muddiness is due to the recording rather than the piano, Rana or Chopin.)
In the Prokofiev (which starts at 1:11:49, by the way), she takes no prisoners: the first movement development section is taken at a hair-raising speed, as is the finale, where both would gain from a more measured but relentless approach, but once again it's her ability to mould lyrical phrases that most impresses; the third movement (despite some memory flutters) emerges in Rana's hands as one of the composer's most emotional outpourings - both poignant and passionate. The highlight of the recital. Bravo!

Is it the recording quality that makes this sound a bit muddy, with many missed notes? I love the musicality, but I find that with the tempo changes and the slightly slower tempo overall (1st movement) that she loses the "sweep" of the piece. I will hear her at Duke on Friday night, so I should be able to tell a little more about these things then, although that hall is too live and I might not be able to answer the "muddy" question.

I don't agree. On the contrary! By changing the 8th notes of the right hand into triples, like the notes in the left hand, she completely destroys the polyrhythm that is essential for the continuity of the movement while still allowing for the dramatic effect of this musical climax. I think this is an alteration of the score, which I believe is terrible! Chopin would have absolutely hated this performance.

I wish she played slower. Chopin pieces are best played a little slower because they have beautiful melodies. It's easy to lose the delicate tones when the keys played rapidly. It becomes a puddle of sounds. Maybe im wrong. i don't know. But the piano piece was executed well. Just wish she took her time. Too fast for me. I used to like fast piano pieces. Then my taste changed. I like slow and melodic
