    ANNA GENIUSHENE
    Russia | Age 31
    Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra
    Marin Alsop, conductor
TCHAIKOVSKY Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Minor, op. 23
Born in Moscow on New Year’s Day in 1991, Anna Geniushene made her recital debut just seven years later in the small hall of the Berlin Philharmonic. She has since developed a diverse and versatile career as an artist: performances in major world venues such as the Town Hall in Leeds, National Concert Hall in Dublin, Museum of Arts in Tel Aviv, the Konzerthaus ‘Neue Welt,’ Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory, and Sala Greppi in Milan; a dedication to chamber music, including duo piano repertoire with her husband, Lukas Geniušas, and close collaboration with Quartetto di Cremona; and the creation of her own festival of collaborative music-making (NikoFest).
During the pandemic, Anna’s pension for creativity manifested in online projects, such as a series of online recitals for the Vancouver Chopin Society, participation in the “Armchairs Season” of the Moscow Philharmonic, and recording sessions for the ConSpirito music channel on KRplus. Her debut CD was released on LINN Records in March 2020.
A laureate of major international piano contests, she has had strong finishes at the Leeds, Tchaikovsky, Busoni, and Dublin Competitions. She sees her participation in the Cliburn as a “dream,” as an “opportunity to be part of a very friendly community, to find a new audience, and to challenge myself.”
Anna graduated from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory in 2015, and completed her Master’s with Distinction and Advanced Diploma from the Royal Academy of Music (London) in 2018. She has also been one of the elite Bicentenary Scholars at the Academy under the tutelage of Christopher Elton.

Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto no.1 is the first piano concerto I've started to listen to since I was 14. It was my all time favorite and dominated my adolescence. Anna's performance is magnificent. I think her understanding of Tchaikovsky's music is far beyond anyone's reach. I think I will objectively search for her performance in the future as well as I back Yunchan Lim. Wish you have a beautiful baby and make happy family and come back with much more power and elegance in the near future! Thank you Anna for great music!

What a magnificent interpretation of Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1! Anna's interpretation makes this Concerto feel new and exciting while still maintaining (musically and stylistically) to the original intent of the piece. Unfortunate her competition had to be the most perfect Rach 3... this performance is a grand prize winning performance in its own right.

I like this stage not only for the sound she create but also for the movement and posture she made with her arms and body which made it much more entertaining to actually watch the video. I would definitely go to her recital 🙂

  • @natachadenechaud1179

Her Tchaikovsky's concerto is a rock, so powerful and vertiginous, so profondly deep and so incredibly spiritual ! It's a pity that the orchestra of this class wouldn't (or couldn't) quite follow her brilliant ideas so clearly exposed. She had so much more to say.. Never mind. There will be other orchestras willing to make music with this amazing musician.
In any case her Tchaikovsky's 1st is in the history now !
    Bravo, Anna Geniushene ! 💐

    • @tonyventura4605
      @tonyventura4605 년 전 +14

Anna was not willing to hit the fortissimos at the end of this performance. The conductor and the orchestra tried to compensate for this, but Anna had other ideas.
She’s a great pianist. But she did not make the finale as rousing as Stanislav Ioudenitch did when he won in 2001.

The videos posted after the competition are good chances for those who wanna appreciate those plays regardless of the result of competition.
