      You're definitely onto something!
      The father of the Danish family is called Anker which isn't a common name (nor is Eyk in German). It means "anchor".
      Time for a little googling... so "Eyk" is an old German name that means "oak" or "ruler".
      Ying Li means "to seek or gain profit"
      Olek is a diminiutive of Alexander and means nothing less than "Defender of humankind" 😲
      Jerome means "sacred name" and St Jerome translated the Bible into Latin
      Maura: "Of the Sea" or "bitter" - interesting!
      Elliot: "The Lord is my God" - might also be an anagram but for what? Ill toe? OK bed time ;-)

  • @andrewbrasfield1104

    I definitely think we could be looking at a past, present, and future type of storyline too, with each side of the triangle representing the past, present, and future. This would mean Maura was in the past in 1899, is now in the future in 2099, and I think it will be revealed that the actual time of this show is 1999, which would explain why Ciaran communicates with her through an older computer.

    I think they went into the simulation fully aware of what it was, not necessarily how to play it, but they knew what they were getting into. When Maura woke up, she just seemed ready, prepared. I don't think a person from 1800 would have such a natural response to being in SPACE, she hadn't even reacted to it.

    Something in episode 7 really bothers me. Henry is watching the monitors and says that everyone keeps dying because they make the same decisions based on emotions and that makes them weak. • @logophile512
      @logophile512 년 전 +22

      Ooh, good catch! I didn't notice that! It's been really bugging me wondering about the detailed backstories that we got on all these side characters. Their memories are very distinctly in that 1800s setting. The show went to so much trouble on that and it gives them emotional depth. It kind of ticks me off if that was all totally fake, maybe just false memories to torture them and see how it would affect their behavior. But maybe they all really are running from something and wanting to forget their real pasts, so they signed up for this simulation but now Cieran is sadistically torturing them with fake painful memories.
      Perhaps these memories are similar to their real ones but set in another time. Either Cieran is torturing them on purpose and violated their deal, or the memories are meant to illustrate that you can't ever totally forget your past, even with this high tech simulation.

    • @zephyr8072
      @zephyr8072 년 전 +3

      I thought that eas the most obvious aspect, as most of their backstories are very era-specific. Exotic prostitution. faking nobility, hiding homosexuality and so on.
      It wouldn’t surprise me if all these traumatic and/or secretive backstories were deliberately crafted to keep them all suitably paranoid and unable to work together in a way that’d help them break the cycle.

    1899 had the technology to create a mostly safe scenario in the middle of nowhere like the ship but not the communication technology of today, so you only need to simulate a limited area that nobody would question why they can't leave it nor would you have to fake the receivers of calls. The spaceship basically has the same conditions.

    Great video! A lot to think about before season 2.
    About question 12 & 19. I think it's implied Daniel wasn't tricked into the simulation like everyone else and is sneaking in to wake up his wife. That's why he says "you're all trapped here" without including himself in it. He also seems to have information about what's been going on in their reality after Maura and her father were locked in the simulation, information he can only have if he was present in that reality:
    "You're trapped here. You all are. This isn't real. This is a simulation. You forgot what's real. But you have to remember. You have to wake up. Or there will be nothing left to wake up for, and your consciousness will be trapped in here forever." Episode 7
    "Your brother, he took over the whole program whilst you were in here. He's been controlling everything. And I've tried so hard to get you out of here, multiple times. Your father is just as stuck here as everyone else. I don't know how fast your brother is gonna figure out what I've done. But you have to leave now. This is so much bigger than you think. You have to wake up. You have to stop him, or everything will be lost." Episode 8
    About question 13. I think Daniel we see several things indicating he didn't wanted to start a mutiny. Daniel kept repeating it was a bad idea to turn around, that there was going to be a mutiny. And he seems sincerely not happy to see it happened. If he needed this to stop Eyk from turning back, for example, why kill Ada before Eyk made that decision? And why use his device to return the boat to its starting point? If he could do this on his own, no need for mutiny. I think Daniel didn't want to draw the attention of whoever's leading the simulation. However, using the Prometheus to infiltrate aboard triggered a chain of events that drew attention to a problem in the simulation (which is why people start committing suicide in episode 5 when the simulation was far from over). I think he killed Ada because the girl was a computer program that spotted his hacking (symbolized by the bug).
    About question 20. For me it's clearly a simulation because:
    - we see the triangle in Maura's eyes;
    - her brother seems mocking her by leaving the note about the coffee and welcoming her to "reality" and Maura seems pissed;
    - the key to wake up was carefully hidden by Maura and could be any object. Daniel, Elliot, Henry and Sebastian searched for this item for a long time. And they want us to believe the key was around Maura's neck in the literal form of a key? And that it was in the letter from her brother, received when she woke up at the start of the simulation? It's obviously a fake key placed there to lure Maura should she ever become aware of being in a simulation and would prevent her from looking further. Hence the ironic message from her brother when she wakes up which makes her understand she is not in reality. On the other hand, I think it is possible this simulation is inspired by their real reality, which could be a good introduction to it. Plus, it would make an interesting triangle between the seasons:
    - Season 1 is an illusion of reality;
    - Season 2 is a reflection of reality;
    - Season 3 is reality.

    I don't think the backstories are real because other people can visit the "memories" independent of the person they belong to. Like when Maura enters the captain's house and his wife is there, glitching. And in the end when the simulation starts breaking down, everyone ends up in random memories. I think the black stuff could be just part of the deletion process before reset.
    And I have a theory that the purpose of the whole simulation could be to help Maura, who really is her mother, regain her memory and somehow "repair" her brain. Daniel and Elliot are some sort of program of course, even though Daniel could be a younger version of the father who really is her husband (entering both Dark and Alabama territory here) that has somehow become sentient and is now working against the "creator".

  • @alexandriajackman4175

    Because the loop always resets, there’s a chance that Eyk found his daughters headband on the Prometheus before his demise. When Eyk was reset on the Kerberos, he wasn’t meant to see the Prometheus - Daniel hacked the sim and lured them there. So Eyk finding the headband might just be an Easter egg that his dream was “real” (ie. The door beneath his bed held the dream world - they exist in the same dimension)
    And since the Prometheus was an exact copy of the Kerberos- Prometheus Eyk could have taken Nina’s headband with him out of the “dream” and Kerberos Eyk found it by chance.

    I found it very suspicious that the sender of Maura's letter was "Your Brother".
    I would have expected that as close as Maura claimed she and her brother were, he would have used a more familial term to address himself in the letter instead of using the extremely vague "Your Brother".
    Also did anyone notice Maura's strange reaction to Eyk on the spaceship. It almost as if she was scared of him or extremely shocked/surprised to see him.

    • @titealicia0108

      I had exactly the same thought.
      First, it's curious that until the last episodes, Maura never names her brother. She keeps repeating "my brother" but never a first name. Then, he signs his letter by "your brother', which is just as strange. There seems to be something behind it but it's still hard to guess.
      I've seen several people talk about this scene at the end but only focusing on Maura looking at her wedding ring after seeing Eyk, using that as proof he must be her real husband. So I was wondering if I was the only one to have seen her recoil in fear and surprise. Seeing Eyk definitely sparked something in her and not for the better. Has she recovered memories? Or did she wake up with a new story placed in her mind? Who knows...
      Personally, since episode 4 I believe a plot twist is going to be that Maura and Eyk are in fact enemies or rivals or one was/will be a traitor to the other. They're too close to each other while having weird vibes between them of mistrust and secrets that wouldn't surprise me at all. And considering their strong bond in Season 1, it would make for a good tragedy and storyline to see them on opposite sides.

      @@cinnamunbun 1) I don't think he could be his rel husband because of two things:
      - her recoil of fear and shock. If the man with whom she made a great bond and mourned was her husband. Seeing him alive right in front of her eyes would have brought an another kind of emotion and she would have made a move towards him not backwards.
      - Eyk already introduced the idea Daniel was lying and wasn't her husband. If it was supposed to be a plot twist (Eyk is the real husband not Daniel), why destroy the surprise by having a main character revealing it as soon as the audience and Maura hearded Daniel's reveal? It's completly anticlimatic. So for me, Eyk's doubt rather comfirm Daniel is her husband.

    I have a theory about Maura and Eyk being end game. #1: I have a bad feeling that Daniel is dead. He appears ghostly like Elliot and he always tells Maura things like "*you* need to wake up" and "*you* could get trapped in here forever," etc. instead of "we." He never talks about THEM escaping together. When she asks if he'll be there when she wakes, he tearfully says, "Always," which could mean he'll be with her in spirit. But he's not there at the end. He could be back on Earth or another part of the spaceship, but it's really suspicious that he's not there with her like he said he would be. It feels like his purpose is to get Maura to wake up, and he may be just a simulation of his former living self, like Elliot probably is. He might be a fail-safe AI that they built into the simulation in case she got trapped.
    #2: Maura and Eyk had a deep connection from the start, trusting and confiding in each other to an extent that didn't make sense at first, since they had seemingly just met. Maura says Eyk "lost everything" because his entire family died and feels deep empathy for him. She says she also "lost everything," maybe referring to her memories, but in reality she might have also lost her family. It would explain why they are instinctively drawn together and understand each other so well. If she realizes this is the reality, they'll likely bond even deeper over their mutual grief (IF his family really did die in reality) and ultimately end up together. I hope so, because otherwise if her family is dead and she doesn't get something good out of this story, there will be nothing to lift the depressing mood. They do seem to be developing feelings- even just the brief hand holding was electric, and they both looked teary when they saw each other again in the ship archive at the end of ep 7. The show seemed to be pushing them together and it seemed like Daniel was probably Maura's brother for most of the season. I would rather Daniel be alive at this point, but I'll take any positive thing I can get out of this sadness.

    My theory: Maura is Nina, Eyk's daughter. Which means that Eyk is a real Henry Sinclair, and Henry in simulation is a program (AI?). Eyk's story, his wife's mental problems and the way they manifest (she seems to be disoriented, like she's not sure where she is), which parallels Maura's mother's story. Eyk had three daughters in simulation. But he only focuses on Nina for some reason. I think Nina is Maura's projection in simulation. Maura said her father blamed children for his wife's illness. She doesn't say he blamed her and Cieran. And the way Sinclair in simulation dodges the question about whereabouts of Maura's brother, Cieran is probably an AI, created by Henry Sinclair - his child you can say. Obviously, we see Eyk's body on spaceship, and he doesn't look old... But how long have he been in cryosleep? Maura is a Creator (of simulation) so she probably had to supervise a big portion of it outside of it, but then joined her father and other passengers after it seemed to work well, or maybe she simply wanted to be with her son there, Elliott. But then her "brother" Cieran went rogue and started changing simulation? Making it more twisted and cruel...

But then things went wrong and there are now two versions of Henry, the real one and the Daniel one, who are working against each other for some reason. Maybe the Daniel AI became sentient and wants Maura to himself... OK, your theory makes more sense.
      The people on the space ship don't appear to be in cryo sleep and the way Maura wakes up and just steps outside the pod with perfect hair and still lokking young makes me think this has to be another simulation...

    Something happened from when she put their son's conscious in the simulation where the son would never grow older to daniel somehow dying in real life and being put in the simulation is the only answer I could come up with. Maybe he died from her trying to put them all in the simulation, i don't know.
    Daniel and eliott are not apart of the simulation and are not affected by anything, and they have been trying to get maura out. The whole focus is to get maura out. And when he says he will always be with her at the end... I do not think he meant literally, but like in her memories.
    That is why when she used the key, daniel did not come back with her. Daniel was not in the spaceship like everyone else.
    The whole theme about code taking a physical form. are eliott and daniel simply code?
    How did he know that her brother took over? How was this so much bigger? What does Maura need to stop and why was her memory erased? Why did her father want to keep her trapped in the endless loop and escape himself.
    because the entire series was about her father trying to get the key to get out trapping maura in there forever, and daniel and elliot trying to get maura out. Whatever Maura did, her father wanted her to be stuck on that endless loop. However, daniel and eliott aren't apart of that loop because daniel is hiding the entire time and don't want "someone" to know that they are on the ship. It is only when time is frozen by eliott - are they discovered. Which I found to be more interesting. what are those devices they are using to turn people on and off and change the code.

She gave Daniel some false memories and wanted to spend the rest of her days in a simulation with him and her kid that she couldn't let go of. The real Henry didn't approve however and later found a way to enter the simulation and control it to a certain degree. He wants Maura to be stuck there forever as punishment and get Elliot out. I interpreted that as her being excited for the turn of the century what with it only being about 2 months away *or* that in recounting her memory she had to recall that it was just further back before 1900 such that she'd have to correct herself and say no it was actually 1899. Memory is a big theme in the first few episodes so it makes sense for that reason too. It could lend to 1999 but it could also be not that, and kind of a misdirection.

    Someone pointed out that the spaceship has actually space for well over 5 thousand passengers. And though with ships you may be able to afford some empty cabins usually with spaceships every single kilogram of weight is carefully considered, thus the passenger count may actually refer to the prometheus in the simulation, not rhe spaceship. This is also supported by the fact the Kerberos housed just over 1,600 people, according to Eyk. Not over 1,900 as the Prometheus supposedly does both in and out of the 1899 simulation. Additionally it just doesn’t make alot of sense to have every one of these super old fashioned looking terminals display the passenger count. So I do think there were NPCs on the Kerberos, it‘d also be a big coincidence that nearly all of the surviving characters are in the same pod in the spaceship, if all of the passengers were real.. as to No10, wasn’t it pointed out the simulation got corrupted due to the alterations Daniel made? And that the black matter is just a computer virus, the manifestation of said corruption?

    1. The names seem to play a big role in the series.
    Why does Ciaran address Maura as Henry? She says it's because of her middle name and similarities with the father, but I think that she is in fact Henry (somehow). Likely that he is some part of her maybe.
    Daniel is also a name of the jewish prophet that could read dreams, and we see how Daniel here travels through the stories of others. Daniel was thrown into pit with lions by an emperor, but manages to survive, and I think this is similar to how Daniel in the series gets inside the simulation.
    2. Triangles are not just symbolic here, but everything is in some form a triangle. Even romantic relationships in this story involve it (Lucien - Clemence - Jerome), (Eyk - Maura - Daniel), (Krester - Angel - Ramiro) and maybe more later. It seems to be weird that so much in the story revolves around it, so maybe some characters are not real or have multiple personas, which is why Henry talks about not being able to let go of emotions and thinking rationally.
    3. The connection with IT is also there for a reason, with Kerberos being a term for a gateway. What if all of the characters are in fact dead or dying (a lot is hinted at that) and the simulation is meant to keep them alive in some form, or transgress them to UI (uploaded intelligence) so they can live forever. Or that the characters are actually AI from the beginning and they are meant to become humane (which Henry opposes) through those simulations.
    4. We will most likely spend all of the series within simulations, not knowing what is true, and maybe there is nothing else besides those simulations even.

  • @OddFellowCultivation

    I would imagine the triangle is representing 3 equal sides, much like DARK , of measures of time. Each side is 100 years, 1899, 1999, 2099 where each is a time line or simulation spaced out between that amount of time. Also there are theories in our real reality that state that the pyramids in Egypt and around the world are actually “consciousness transfer devices” where you would “transfer” your soul or consciousness to the next existence and collective consciousness. If you marry that with the computer/tech aspect it’s the same thing “upload your consciousness “ to the computer/ cloud. And much like many religious beliefs you have to keep “reincarnating” or “restarting the sim” over and over until you learn the proper lessons and break the cycle in order to ascend to the next plain of existence.

    I found it notable that Sebastian, Henry and Daniel were not in the same simulation room as all the other characters. I could imagine though that they access the simulation from a centrally placed meta-hub, or a secret spot, where Ciran can't access them easily.
    But it sounded very much like Henry didn't have all the information either. He just wanted to get out of the simulation, or end it, because it's bugged...
    So, here is my question: Where are those three?

    If we only see Dark season 1, we won't understand what is yet to unfold.
    There are content which makes complete sense when they are finished in its entirety.
    Like Lord of the rinds - Fellowship then we need other two to complete it.
    Barman Begins followed by Dark Knight and Rises.
    Star Wars episode 4 followed by Empire and Return of Jedi.
    So point is we need to be patience to understand this series.

    Elliott could be an AI version of the child Maura miscarried. Maybe that is the trauma she couldn't get over so she created a child who would age over time and that is the reason for all the Sims. From a reality standpoint, BBO and JF would have to account for the obvious aging of the actor playing Elliott over the course of the many years this show will unfold over. How else could they deal with this. Same could be true of Ada. Maybe Tove's original flashback of chasing Ada through the Forrest is the true memory and the one in the Kerberos is a false memory. The family couldn't deal with her death so had an AI made of her.

  • @juliapashkovskaya113

    why does the sim need to loop? If the sim was designed to entertain the space travelers during their arduous interstellar journey, why can't they just be allowed to reach NY and live out the fun New World scenario? If the sim is Maura's personal project, why are all these random people in there instead of just her family? What's the significance of the book "The Awakening" by Kate Chopin? it was showed 2 or 3 times and and I don't think it's just because of the name and the fact that it was released in 1899 (its female protagonist is married with kids but is not happy with the prescribed gender role, falls in love with a guy and ends up drowning herself because she is sick and tired of conforming) Also, Ben Frost released the original music for the show on his ethermachines channel, and the artwork for every track says "1899. one thing that i notice about this series is that it is very similar to video games like Until Dawn, and the Dark Anthology games. Firstly, we are introduced to a lot of main characters. and sometimes when these “main characters” make a decision like picking up a vial or a gun or opening a door to something you hear a sharp tone in the background. almost like these characters just made a decision that would heavily impact the future. lastly, there’s Henry who seems to be the narrator/curator looking over these stories unfolding, judging them for their decisions. idk, it’s just giving that vibe to me.

  • @masteronionnorth2341

    Why does Eyk have that symmetrical white patch in his beard? And is it connected with the white substance in the syringe that awakens memories? Is Eyk actually Maura's husband. Is Daniel Ciaran?
    Anyone notice the parrellel between 8 days for each simulation and the 8 remaining characters at the end? Henry not getting what he was expecting is reminiscent when Adam didn't get what he wanted either in Dark.
    Why did Daniel use the word "whilst" when talking to Maura in the underground room? That seemed unusual. There was something off about Ada. How did she know about the crew finding the Prometheus so quickly?
    Why did her doll have no face? Why was she leading Tove in that memory, and why was Tove looking back over her shoulder while tryng to follow her?
    Is there a connection between Eyk and Ada?

    Question 2: The simulation has proven to have actual rooms that depict one of the passenger's most traumatic memories. I have no doubt half the idea is that the simulation is meant to break people or make them question all emotional bonds they have. Having something be where it shouldn't be is a great way to hint that maybe it wasn't real to begin with. Break those emotional attachments.
    Question 4: I think Henry isn't real, but an ai which is supposed to watch over everyone. Mora made it look like her father because in her mind, that's the kinda person which would look over such simulations. But at some point he lost this fact and has no idea that he can't exist outside of the simulation.
    Question 6: .. I don't think that specific backstory is real? But i think it's a reflection of a guilt/trauma they actually feel. Like, they couldn't shake the feeling, so had to make a whole new set of memories that had the same traumatic feeling, otherwise, the people might have kept breaking the simulation after realizing something was wrong/missing?
    Question 15: Yeah I want to see what other loops were like too. I get the vibe that reguardless the ship gets lost, the ship gets in a fog, the ship then gets destroyed in a storm and sunk. The promethius had water damage Everywhere on the inside. That means the ship was sunk under the water before the simulation ended. So... did past versions sink their own ship? Maybe everyone got so caught up on petty squabbles that they somehow lead the ship to sink? the only reason everyone got so far in this one was the constant urgency forcing people to put their personal differences aside? Stuff to think about.
    Question 17: I think the child was always a program. That's why Mora feels No emotional attachment to seeing pictures of him. I think her insistence she can't have children, and had one die at stillbirth is true. But she wanted that so badly, she made a simulation of him. That's why he has such a poor range of emotion (side note - good acting on the kid. That can't be easy to be so consistently deadpan).
    Question 19: I don't think Daniel is a person either. Mora made Daniel as an assistant AI, pre-programed to be loyal to her....... to a fault. To the point he thinks he loves her and wants nothing more than to feel those feelings back. But as I said before, she looks at those 'fond photos' and feels no emotional attachment, where something should be coming back.
    Question 20: I would love it if somehow the ship controls were all integrated into the simulation, so one ship needs to be controlled to control the other ship, otherwise this will be one hell of a shipshow and we'd all be ship out of luck. (lol)
    Question 28: I Really hope it isn't all in Maura's plan and when she gets all her memories back, it's like a personality switch flips in her head and she becomes someone sociopath enough to torment people like this.... It'd be a massive disappointment. I disliked it gravely in Deathnote and i'd dislike it greatly if it was done here too.
    Question 33: ..... They beat us over and over the head with life/death analogies from mythology over and over again. The beetle is just an Egyptian one: Khepri is a beetle god found in the underworld that re-awakens the dead soul of Ra as well as the sun every dawn. (in Egyptian mythology, Ra and the sun literally die every sunset.)

  • @loganfoxmusic5943

    My guess is that the Prometheus spaceship is another layer of the simulation, and it takes place in 1999.
