Choosing an animal to love is cool and all. But when a wild animal chooses to love you, that’s a very unique thing.
The amount of people who are caring enough to save injured animals then release them back into the wild, only to have them either refuse to go or come back to visit, makes me a bit envious 😃. Thank goodness there's lots of people like this as these videos give me a lift when I get a bit down. But like you say, a wild animal choosing you as a friend would be awesome.
Within the first year of a squirrel's life they map the surroundings that they will live in for the rest of their life.... if they cannot have access to that then they need someone to take care of them.
We found a baby squirrel after a storm & nursed it back to health. When he was big enough we decided to turn him loose. He made a home for himself in a tree next to our front porch & for two years, every time we would come out side he would run to us and crawl up onto her shoulders. He was so much fun he even used to play with our dog. Don’t know what finally happened to him, whether he found a mate or. Something, but he disappeared and will never know what happened to him.But I just know that he was a lovely little creature. ❤️

Bird is free to go and does daily, interacts with other Ravens, has a boyfriend. But comes home to roost every night! Knows what predators are because it's instinctual. I posted some interactions if interested! I have educated myself extensively!

Same experience. I rehabbed a baby squirrel when I was a teenager. That squirrel loved me to death. He would get excited and run around his cage when I came home. He would jump 10 feet across the room to my shoulder when I called his name. I found him at Pocahontas State Park in Virginia and I named him Poco. I would take him into the woods to free him, and he always ran back and scampered up to my shoulder. Finally when he was about a year old, I took him to the woods and he started playing with two wild squirrels. They played and chased each other into the tops of the trees. I ran to keep up with them. He seemed so excited. I eventually lost site of him and called for him for nearly an hour... and that was it. I cried on my walk home.

Ive rescued and rehabbed a lot of wild animalis over my life. Im sure it was a very long time and youve emotionally recovered now, i always liked to believe that once my animal leaves back into the wild, its still my baby. And when it eventually goes and has its own babies. Those are my babies too. My brood shall only grow in size till eventually every wild animal im the south east US will be descended from one i rescued.
Why in the world would this saved Squirrel want to leave, it spent over a year training you. What an incredible world it would be if all animals and humans could live together like this.
Initially humans and animals were supposed to live together but then you had these humans who thought that hunting them was a sport and nature just lost its trust in us. The more we were getting that trust the more nature will trust us to be together again

There's usually a moment hormones and instinct take priority, which may still happen if she finds a mate. But there's a rather good chance that since there's trees right next to the house, she'll still opt to stick around.
She was playing with another squirrel, so they seem to be at least used to humans too.
We did before the Fall and we will again one day.

I have a lovely grey squirrel who comes to be fed daily. But she won’t take the peanut that’s already on the ground I have to greet her in an excited voice and hand her a peanut . Just love her.

She's made a nest in a nearby tree and just had her second litter. She still comes to visit and get food.

My cat also came up the driveway carrying a baby squirrel. My Granddaughter grabbed him n asked if we could save him. From that day on, we had a newborn in the house to feed every few hours. Now he's a full grown squirrel we named Squidward and he's a joy to play with and have as a friend. From one squirrel lover to another, good for yo1qqu!!!!

The intent was not to make a pet but to save her life. She’s chosen to be with him in the world that he has made for her. Returning an animal to it’s natural habit is great, but when given its life back there is her safety and her natural love she has formed. Bravo to you for all your love and kindness. Once in a lifetime bond.
My brother took in an orphaned baby squirrel too. Same thing. She loved him. He did successfully integrate her & she kept coming back even after she successfully transitioned. It was to say hugs & peanut butter toast please. Eventually, she found a mate & had her own life- just like raising children

I lived the exact same story with 2 baby squirrels in about 1955. They lived in a space provided in our house as well as a giant oak tree just outside our house. They are loving little creatures and a lot smarter than many people I have known.
Getting a baby squirrel is the friendship of a lifetime! My buddy loved car rides to the grocery store. He'd stay in my coat pocket unless I took him out. Best animal friend ever!

When I was a child in the 80s we rescued several squirrels and raised them to release. One in particular kept coming back to visit for several years. Great memories!!

In captivity they almost always live longer due to reduced dangers and stress so I’m sure it will live a long and beautiful one

@@divinetiming8422 for two months or so, then he grew up and decided to move to the nearest forest, as we live in the country side. There are pretty many squirrels and natural food and water for them... It's comforting, but we do miss the fireworks ;)

White folks really deserve recognition for there compassion for animals. Not all but for the most part. We wouldn't know a damn thing about animals. They track migrations of whales. They camp out in the woods for months studying various animals. You guys deserve some credit. Pls just accept the compliment without tail spinning into a we are all the same. I showed your video to my squirrels, ferrets, opossum, and my raccoon. The squirrels immediately started watching. I think they want to meet up. But for some reason, the raccoon took a walnut and placed it in front of the monitor, almost as if offering a food gift. (This is no joke, as he usually does this with the others.) All my animals are very humanized. As soon as the video stopped though, he took the walnut back.

Such a sweet story! She is living her best life! She's safe and loved. Get's plenty of attention, exercise, time outdoors - always with the opportunity to go and live in the wild with other squirrels, if and when she chooses. I doubt she will choose to. She may stretch to interact and play with other squirrels, at times, at some point, but I believe she will stay with her Dad, where she is safe and loved and cared for. 💕

I have a lot of respect for people that are kind to animals. It means you're a good person.
People dont realize how truly amazing these little creatures are! Ive found that squirrels absolutely crave and love affection from people, of course Im talking about those who have been raised by humans. In every story Ive seen where a person has stepped in to raise a baby squirrel, they are so loving and just want to be with their people. They are so incredible, such smart, curious, affectionate little beings.

I love it. I rescued a baby squirrel that fell out of the nest during a hurricane. I waited forever for momma to show up and she never did so I took him into my care. He was the greatest thing but like you said, they’re wild animals and I took him to my 3,000 acres my hunt club owns (nobody squirrel hunts there haha that’s why) and I let him go. I won’t lie…I’m a grown man but I cried. Every time I see a squirrel out there I always wonder if it’s him.

This video brought back memories of a pair of fox squirrels my wife and I rescued in 2013. Jessi and Jo. They were beautiful little girls.

Within the first year of a squirrel's life they map the surroundings that they will live in for the rest of their life.... if they cannot have access to that then they need someone to take care of them.

Yea that's a great story but the first step is the animal's mother being killed or separated from it very soon after birth. This squirrel is attached to what it probably thinks is it's mother. If this happened a few weeks later that squirrel would've already learned to be afraid of humans and it wouldn't have gone down like this.

This touches me emotionally and I couldn’t believe I had a tear ran down my cheek watching this moving video. I love love love and this shows we are capable of loving all living creatures and when a bond has been established. I was raised on a farm and my daily duties was tending to livestock. You learn over time, their habits and at times watch them gleefully running around.
So true anyone having watched animals closely knkw they show all emotions. Every single last one. They are so much more than a lot say.

Whild living has its definite plusses, but she loves her human now! If no love happens majority of healthy whild animals would return to the whild, they do not stay for food or comfort it is more fun and more natural to be whild, but only for love they will stay....

So cute. My brother rescued a little squirrel and he definitely fell in love with her. She was ready to move on so they took her to a friend’s farm, hung her princess castle in a big tree and that is where she is now.
