    The first leg which was the goal less draw was the best football match I had ever seen in my life. And I have been following Manchester United for well more than 50 years. Two of the best teams of that time could not be seperated until the replay. Kudos to both teams.

    This game is basically a mirror image of Man United vs Arsenal at Old Trafford in September 2003 in Arsenal invincible season.
    Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira getting sent off in that game at Old Trafford in 2003. Man United captain Roy Keane getting sent off in this game. Man United getting a last minute penalty in that game that would have won them the game while in this game, Arsenal getting a last minute penalty that would have won them this game. Bergkamp missing his last minute penalty which gifted Man United the The Treble and Van Nisteroy missing his last minute penalty in that game which gifted Arsenal the golden Premier League title in 2004.
    Both Dutch Men missing their last minute penalties which gifted both Arsenal and Man United their unique feats in 1999 and 2004.

    This Arsenal side was in my opinion stronger than the double winning season that preceded it. Ljungberg and Kanu in and Ian Wright out. But they played better football together this season. They thumped United 3-0 twice and were relentless in persuit of retaining the double. What a run in to the season, even losing this match did not break their league title challenge, there is no trebble without this strong opposition keeping United focused for months.

      @cddb5408 3 년 전

      @G M
      Yes they were better than 97/98 Arsenal who got lucky winning the PL that season (I'm not saying they weren't a talented team I just think ManUtd were better and even the final table 97/98 doesn't show Arsenal were better and they had 2 lucky wins vs ManUtd which won them the title and still 12 GD worse than ManUtd so half a point the difference, if that...even with more luck than ManUtd...and let's not forget ManUtd were playing in Europe much more than Arsenal in 97/98 & 98/99 and other seasons surrounded those and that takes its toll on your domestic season).
      But 1998/99 Arsenal only won 3-0 in the Shield and at their ground Highbury. If you're going to win with a -2 handicap those are the easier games to do it rather than OldTrafford or neutral ground in a major competition (plus Ljunberg's goal in the Highbury game was offside & vs 10men....and Stam was still finding his feet in the PL those 3-0's were in his first 2 months in England).
      ManUtd basically beat Arsenal 3 times in the FAcup 1999.
      First game 1-0 ManUtd if RoyKeane's goal isn't bizarrely disallowed.
      Replay ManUtd took the lead with brilliant goal and were cruising and won again taking out the Bergkamp deflected lucky goal.
      Then ManUtd had to beat them again in extra-time and did so with less men and an iconic goal.
      But yeah considering ManUtd had a stronger team on paper in 1998/99 than the previous season and had Keane back who missed 8months of 97/98 I think 97/98 Arsenal team if it were exactly the same team for 98/99 they would've been comprehensively beaten to silverware by 98/99 ManUtd like they were in the next couple of years that followed the treble season.

      @gm2407 3 년 전

      @@cddb5408 I also think teams started rolling over easier in 1999/2000 than they did in the trebble season. The league hasnt been the same since that season. United dropped pleanty of points in the run in and made difficult games against poorer teams.

    • @cddb5408
      @cddb5408 년 전 +1

      @@leeakers6422 Yeah 2 lucky wins that could've gone either way with ManUtd missing key players in both games which both needed to go Arsenal's way for them to win the title as ManUtd got 77 pts & +49 GD against the rest of the PL teams to Arsenal's 72 pts & +33 against the rest of the PL.
      ManUtd's losses were more unlucky than Arsenal's as well.
      Or games ManUtd shouldn't have lost, freak turnarounds like 1-2 up at Coventry with a few mins to go and end up losing 3-2. Arsenal lost 1-3 to Blackburn, 3-0 to Derby, 4-0 to Liverpool. ManUtd's biggest defeat was 2-0 to SheffWed with the 2nd goal very late and Arsenal also lost 2-0 in that fixture.
      Arsenal didn't win the 97/98 title as much as ManUtd lost it.

      @leeakers6422 년 전 +1

      @@cddb5408 You are clearly a man united fan who only sees it one way. I’m not an Arsenal fan but I remember those two games very well and arsenal deserved to win both, they beat you 3-2 at Highbury without Bergkamp and should’ve had more that day. Also their 1-0 win at old Trafford was anything but lucky, Marc Overmars absolutely ran you ragged that day. United players and Ferguson himself admittted Arsenal deserved it that season, the table never lies.

    Listen its THE FA Cup sponsored by whoever. Thats how it should have been rather than the Emirates FA Cup.. That Cup is bigger than any sponsor & they sold out, then the big clubs, the relegation clubs all rather put out a second string side so the main first team concentrates on the Premier League & thats where all the big money is. Shame on them all. This is why you get Third tier Divs getting to the Semi Finals. Nothing wrong with it but its not genuinely based on who wants to play in it. I think we bar all Premier League & the one below (whatever its called now yaaaaawn) and the bottom two Divs take part. Invites can be given to the top 2 divisions to enter it but they must field their normal First Team. Then it goes to a vote by the lower 2 Divisions. This way we can make the FA Cup as it was the greatest cup to win. It can be sponsored but the sponsor's name comes after the word Cup ie The Fa Cup sponsered by Lidl. The FA wouldnt do it would they.
