The important detail on that West Ham goal is that this was at an extreme point of exhaustion. Absolutely no player in history has and could have, technically or mentally, have executed such an outrageous attempt at goal, much less score. And Hislop was not some incompetent, inexperienced goalkeeper. Steven Gerrard admitted he had nothing in his tank, the match had physically and mentally drained the entire squad. This isn’t clutch. This is if clutch had a clutch clutch on its clutch. And it’s a comeback goal.

Always thought managers got it wrong putting gerrard in more advanced positions than lampard for England . Lamps had more finesse, was a better finisher and had better runs. Gerrards energy and tackling would of been much better suited coming from deep. Also lampard was better tactically and positionally so could interchange better in advance roles and holding to allow gerrard to join when needed overloads. Lampard was no slouch coming back either and again tactically defensively better while gerrard had better tackling ability
