Looking back on Doom in preparation for Doom Eternal coming out, I've noticed that, like so many other video games, it has barrels that explode when you hit them. Why IS that? I’m in college to be a firefighter. WE LITERALLY TALKED ABOUT THIS TODAY. WE SAW THE SAME SUGAR REFINERY VIDEO. We even got to you around with granulated, powdered, and some other sugar in a field test in the shop!! Absolutely amazing coincidence. Love the vids, Austin! Keep me up!

When I was a kid, my dad was supposed to be part of a team that was dissembling large containers that hadn't been used in years for the city. I'm very happy they decided to go with someone else because they somehow forgot to makes sure the containers had been completely cleaned beforehand and so when they started cutting into them the sparks ignited the gasoline fumes that were still in the container. One of the men died

Can we all just give an F in chat for that poor guy...this is why people need to listen to why you are doing work, you can be lazy sometimes and I won't care but when you're dealing with dangerous chemicals and saw blades, it might be a good idea to save that laziness for something else

LOL I am guessing none of you played Battle Chess (or any of its sequels). It was a PC chess game with movement animations, and when one piece took another it had battle animations unique to each piece combination. Specifically when a King took a knight he batted an old fashioned grenade (the round metal ball with the fuse) at the knight with his scepter. The knight catches it, realizes it's lit and explodes into pieces. Not a barrel, but chess with explosions.

First, TNT is a yellow clay like solid not a powder. Second, when stored at high temperatures it can develop cracks and exude liquids that cause increased shock sensitivity. So the Donkey Kong TNT barrel is actually fairly plausible. Stored in a jungle (high temps), thrown to the ground, would quite likely explode, without a fuse.
The liquid it exudes is actually nitroglycerin. So exactly as he said in the video would happen.
I believe there was a movie where they found old dynamite and a guy used his finger to wipe some of the "sweat" off and flick it down at a rock which then popped. Old dynamite is really really scary
@@magmadude35 Reading this remind me of an episode of Lost during season 1 of a guy explaining dynamite & it's nitroglycerin sweat to be careful around it, but got exploded after talking about it by the one he was holding.

I believe it's also one of the major contributing causes of the 1967 explosion on the USS Forestall during the Vietnam war. A resupply ship didn't have the proper ordinance to restock the ship for operations, and instead of ceasing said operations, the ordinance crew took on some older bombs that were Korean war surplus, and more than a decade old. They had been improperly stored in heat and humidity, and were reportedly leaking phlegmatizing agent from seams in the casings, which actually made the bombs themselves unstable. Even worse, the explosive used was composition B, which was already prone to detonate from shock and heat, and even more destructive than normal when degraded.

TECHNICALLY you don't need oxygen, you just need something that can react with the fuel to release energy from chemical bonds, such as fluorine with, well, nearly anything.

Perhaps the most unstable chemical compound is C2N14. We don't know its properties because doing ANYTHING with/to it causes it to explosively decompose.
Headcannon:
All exploring barrels are filled with Chlorine trifluoride. Which combusts on contact with oxygen, water, ash, concrete . . . basically anything other than fluoride.

My dad narrowly avoided being hospitalized when he went to buy lotto tickets and another driver crashed into him on his way back. He didn't get hurt but the repair costs were more than he usually has to pay (the medications he's on has been leading to him to damaging his car more often).

I may be wrong here but I remember that it can scan aliens to add them to the data base, so in theory in can scan a human too, meaning it could revert your dna to its initial status. The real problem would be when it transforms it user into bigger aliens, where does the extra mass come from?!

7:27 You put a biohazard symbol on what you describe as radioactive waste. The mistake is common, but the radioactive symbol is another type of trisector, the one commonly used as a "nuke" symbol in games. There's also other stuff about radioactivity you didn't get eeeeexactly right, but I can't blame people for not knowing everything about atoms and their interactions, even though it's my job I don't know literally everything either, way too complex :p
