For those of you wondering why Austin showed a picture of the North American continent when he was talking about the rest of the US, in fallout lore, the US took over Canada and Mexico.
What he also forgot to say is, that primarly only the Cost was bombed. The middel of the Continent was not hit.

There is a crater in 76, its in the savage divide area closer to the southern part. i dont remember the grid location but it does not have a icon and does not show up on the map. its just a deep pit that looks like a bomb went off with a blown up town and tons of rads when you walk into the area.

I think the theory is actually talking about why the plants are alive when we first get out of the vault. The Nukes players can launch don't count for this discussion.

i'm just imagining the fev also infects the trees and rapidly changes when exposed to large dose of radiation and sudden environmental change from being in the blast zone.

The biggest mistake was accidentally discovering Ultracite. The pygmy bats mutated into Scorchbeasts from it, and nearly infected everyone with the Scorched Plague.
Ironic, Fallout NV devs knew this to some extend the entire Honest Hearts DLC revolved around a Oasis that wasn't hit by nuclear bombs but the fallout from the rest of the country seeping into the area, by way of water, radioative fog, and rain. Eventually 200+ years later it cleared up into a Oasis of clean water though.

there are 2 craters in the map actually if you go to the top of the giant monorail look North of you and you will see 2 small impact craters but i’m not sure if they were nukes but if you go to the crater you will get rads
Can you look back to fallout 3 because there was someone called harold the tree that his seeds are immune to the radiation so can you look into it for me and see if Harold seeds could possibly have spread to here and that could be why the trees are so green

Just throwing out there: Beta decay is not the atom loosing an electron out of it's shell, but way freakier. It's actually a neutron turning into a proton by kicking out an Electron which didn't previously exist out of its core (together with a neutrino, but that's neither here nor there)

Just remember that if you ever feel useless that there was a charisma perk card with no one to talk to.
While beta particles are electrons, they are not emitted from the electron shells as your graphic shows. They are emitted from the nucleus through beta decay when a neutron turns into a proton.
I'll keep that in mind if I ever talk about beta radiation again. Thanks!

That new species might have developed in 200 years, is still a stretch and not really "realistic" but it's a game so lets stretch the rubber to the max and even go with the existence of impossibly large insects - that would not be able to breathe in the real world.
But 25 years? A lat nope it's not believable regardless, even if you burned down the biology library.
Um...do neutrons magically turn into protons? Their spin is effectively what makes them different,however neutrons are way smaller than protons! Are you talking about when the neutrons decay off the atom in order to create a stable atom? Isn't that alpha radiation?
There is no way a neutron can flip into a proton, it would have to change its qaurk arrangement and gain a positive spin! Now I'm no physicist(obviously) but I'm pretty sure thats not a thing.

Edit: wowie your totally right, in this specific case(beta radiation indicative of nuclear fission,via a bomb) the beta radiation emitted would be from neutrons decaying into protons to conserve lepton levels.

yeah... no. plutonium would not be the culprit here. plutonium just isn't that soluble and would get locked up in the soil chemistry spread out too thinly to do any real damage. in fact most isotopes released by a bomb would not stick around in the water column that long and so this feature is totally absurd.
You should do a demonstration on this and see if you can find any science behind the chemistry of it.

That's what I was thinking. Lots of things would not stay suspended in water like that for very long so it is pretty silly to have the water be the main source of rads in the game.
Would irradiated dust blowing in as occasional, possibly seasonal, dust storms created by wind picking up dust from the more heavily irradiated/ devegitated land areas be a more realistic way radiation could be periodically introduced as a more plausible threat in the setting of Fallout 76?

Did you guys know that the most irradiated place in the world is actually Hanford Washington. The place that made the first abombs. One of the oldest nuclear plants u.s has and they store the most waste underground and had unclassified nuclear leaks. Water isn’t safe. You can’t live near it. Government payed all the parcel owners to leave

Whilst austin provides a good point we all need to remember atomic power not nuclear fuels the fallout universe. 25 years after hiroshima and nagasaki (no offence intended to those cities or the decendants of survivers) and people were living there again. when rain is being formed, it 'begins' with water vapor, just single water molecules in the air, now personally not being a nuclear physicist, i wouldn't know for sure but it wouldn't seem like the vapor would take any Plutonium with it....

the rivers. The river water flow would EASILY carry enough water from somewhere that was bombed, to the map. Maybe the rivers aren't flowing. (i haven't played 76 and don't plan to) but much like you said at 10:07 "gamma rays travel much further in water" it would be possible that the radiation seeped through the water and in time into the plant life...

It still got bombed, it's just that house shot down quite a few of them nukes which just means that they're saved from the explosion, since his auto targeting failed and he just ended up shooting them down mostly manually (If I remember correctly) the Mojave still got itself nuked to a degree and the fallout sprinkled down from above and still killed a lot of people, a bomb detonating in mid air just means that the blast didn't destroy any (or as many) buildings, it says nothing for how much radiation spreads as far as I know. So yeah, it being dark green actually just makes plenty of sense.
