I’m a huge fan of the Mega Man franchise and I’ve known most of the plot for both timelines pretty well but I’ve never looked at how Wily’s actions from the classic series influenced the rest of the original timeline. But I’ve always seen Wiel is Wily but as some kind of clone.

Little heads-up: It's been heavily implied that Wily's conciousness was digitalised and copied, and then was put on at least 2 Reploids, them being Serges from X2 and Isoc in X6. So when Sigma says "I met an old man who knows a lot about you" he might actually have met Wily in a different body, under a different name. Like Serges, who was working for Sigma as a X Hunter.

Had zero not been so conflicted with what he was seeing in "dreams" he might not have been so closed off after killing iris, in X5 and X8 u can see he's still broken up about it, in X5, he wouldn't have offered to STAY dead(an act that did little to nothing besides mess X up and make him more adverse to fighting, which we see in X7) and maybe wouldve come up with an idea for the mother elf much sooner than he did
It also caused him to not care too much about Layer, which, although it was small, Zero wouldve hopped down sooner if he wasn't beating himself up over iris death(sumn sigma, and basically wily caused).

Sigma is suitable for realizing Wily's ambitions, but not Wily's technical expertise. The X5 reference to an old man may refer to Wily's consciousness manifesting in Serges (and later Isoc.)
Weil seems to be a copycat (which is on point for the Z series), but one could speculate that Wily's consciousness had eventually found a way to manipulate a human host unbeknownst to them.

point of interest: In MML2 Megaman is a "purifier" unit meant to destroy "aberrant" units that went rogue. But in the original japanese they use the same word for aberrants that they did for mavericks. Which means even in the future the maverick virus is still hanging around and making reaverbots turn violent

Yeah, you can definitely count this as Wily's win when seeing it from the perspective that humans are wiped out, and that Zero outlasted X...
But you could also see this as Dr.Light's win, if you instead see it from the perspective that humans and robots are finally living in harmony as the carbons, with there still being a Megaman out there to protect the peace.

Zero outlasted X, but he was also in stasis for at least a century when X was still active, technically making X older than Zero by about a century by the time X died in Zero 2. X effectively lived a longer life than Zero.

I wouldn't consider X to be dead until Zero3, but yeah, he had technically a longer life. But then again, it seems like the Wily Virus outlasted them both, since Mavericks seem to be an issue even as far as in the Legends era....

If you didn't find them during your research, i highly recommend "The Megas" a Megaman inspired rock band. The "History" songs being their best Megaman inspired songs. Those couple songs cover most of the lore you just covered. Highly recommend.

In Legends I'm certain they wanted to kill the humans because the world became too overpopulated. The master thought because the carbons valued their limited life as opposed to the immortality that Eurasia (I think that's what it's called) provided, that it was important to preserve their rights to live. The master died because he was away from Eurasia too long and no longer desired the luxury Eurasia provided and wanted Trigger to disable the master system that the mother units Sara and Yuna were trying to protect. Juno was charged with monitoring Katelox island to ensure the proper amount of carbons lived on that island but it was overpopulated so he wanted to wipe them out since it would be easy enough to clone them.
Zero was a catalyst to the virus probably in an effort to defeat Light's creations (X) which is supported by Zero's dream when Wily said he had a rivalry with Light. Zero is Wily's legacy not so much the virus because the virus made Zero stronger and in great amounts more violent. Light might have contributed more to the poor state of the world simply because Reploids of today are based off the template of X which birthed villains like Sigma although the term Reploids is a replica of humans/animals and not so much X in general. Zero is a major reason humans and reploids still exist because of the sacrifices he made to ensure the peace is kept between them. Even X adopted that state of mind when he sacrificed his body to seal the Dark Elf.
One year later, I saw this video. Just wanted to give you reference to the start of this. Okay, now back to the video.

The only problem with this theory- when exactly didn't Dr. Wily state he wanted to wipe out humanity? It always seemed he wanted to "Take Over the World", (as you noted the early virus caused Robot (Master)s to emulate), via Robots... Ruling over a dead world never seemed to his goal.
So, how did he win- the series doesn't end with Wily (or his continuation) ruling over humanity, or even a world of robots/carbons- flipping the table doesn't mean you've won the game, just ended it.
No. He did win, at least for a period of time. Almost everything was destroyed by Dr.Wily by the end of mega man zero 4. Its only after several years that magaman zx takes place and thats when we even see proper civilization compared to the other games in the franchise.

I think I have an answer. He want his will to to rule the world to continue but after going from host to host, the virus learns which caused a mutation to the programing. It shifted to destroy and conquer to just destroy everything that stands in the way. Or hits a dead end when there's one human left.

What's really sad is we're going through the exact same thing in the real world right now. Two organizations are fighting against each other one trying to get rid of humans and the other trying to preserve them.

I theorize that the reason he seemingly lucked out on so many attempts on his life has got to do with well-meaning time-travelers, and their conflict with prudent time-travelers who realize that while yes, a good deal of concentrated evil can be attributed to a single individual, and hypothetically saving the people of this planet a great deal of heart-ache in the process, nonetheless the chaotic rippling effect of actually going back in time to accomplish that feat ends up being moderately worse due to some kind of comparison between choosing the evil you know over the evil you don't. If time-travel is real, and humans can engage in it to some measured extent, I expect the time-police will have ordained a quasi-permanent bureau specifically to catch the numerous would-be temporal vigilantes who decide to forego the golden rule of time-travel, in the act of trying to change history with a single--_just single_--extrajudicial assassination.

If memory serves, X was put in hibernation to run countless simulations so as to always be able to make the correct moral choice in any decision. But he was awoken early by mistake, and used as the prototype for all other robots (Called “Reploids” because they replicated X).
And Dr. Light’s capsules were hidden here and there to help X face future threats, which seemed to be abundant throughout the entire X series.
So I’ve always wondered: Did X truly, really ever get out of hibernation? Or is he still in there, guided by an artificial Dr. Light? Could everything from the Wily Virus to the choice about preserving the Carbons be part of X’s moral training?
X was actually meant to be in the capsule for only 30 years but when Light died, was in there for a total of 100 years (70 years more than intended).
You left out the Mega Man arcade game when you finish the game with Bass you see Willy showing off Zero long before that expo.

Love Game theory talking about Mega man which is my favorite franchise, the theory is cool but it has some mistakes.
-Saying that Willy putted his soul in a virus is very out there, I don´t think that´s the case. This theory also fails to mention Awakened Zero, if the virus transferred from Zero to sigma, then why Awakened Zero is a thing? Also Sigma acts nothing like Willy, their personalities are completely different.
-In MMX5 Sigma does mention Willy and his W is behind some bosses like Zero and Shadow Devil, meaning that those are his creation, what it could be happening is that Willy made himself a hologram projection (either recorded messages or actually being alive in there), just like Dr. Light did.

Afterthought.
Wouldn't the "carbons" I'd the legends series ultimately be a different version of light's dream that humans and machines living peacefully together. The two literally became a new human/ reploid hybrid lifeform. This could've also been hinted at in the zero series with the old man robot and his story about his human love. Could "carbons" be result of such obstacles between human and reploid interactions. It would seem that wily got his wish, but lights dream ultimately did find a way to realise itself it would seem.
The carbons don't have nothing human in they, they are artificial beings made of bio steel, they are not "human x reploid" hybrids, they are artificial beings

Nah the writer is actually pretty smart he had an entire storyline written out with a whole bunch of games spanning between classic to ZX series to that weird network one I dunno the name
@@kargy4101 Megaman Battle Network and Megaman Starforce are technically a separate timeline. In it, Dr.Light goes into internet research instead of robotics, but Wily is on the same course. Light still ends up revolutionizing the world, Wily still acts out. By the end of the Battle Network games though, Wily's finished. For the Starforce end of the timeline, the villains are all aliens if I remember correctly.

Megaman has always been so cool to me! I only played the PlayStation game when I was a kid, but I had action figures and loved the show! I hope they bring it back in some form!

The big mistake mega man and dr light committed was believing wily could change and letting him live. They had many opportunities to straight up kill wily but showed mercy instead and let him escape.
7:36 Um, X4 explicitly showed us that Wily created Zero. It was one of his flashbacks. Granted, Wily was covered in a silhouette, but it was the same voice actor and in Day of Sigma, the capsule Zero awakens from has the exact same makeup and structure of the evil Robot Masters Wily created. So, yeah, it was completely stated out right.
