Welcome back to Minecraft Theory, where we do deep dives into anything and everything Minecraft! Honestly Theorists, there is SO MUCH to explore in this game. In my search for theory fodder on Creepers, Endermen, and all other manner of creatures, one thing stood out. The Illagers. You know, the exiled magic folk who seem to be up to some rather... interesting experiments. What are they doing and how might it change Minecraft FOREVER if they succeed in their plot? Let's find out!

Their 'Unspeakable activities' was trading for lapis instead of emeralds.
Oh Lord now that's what I call a sin. Get the guillotine boys!
How dare They!

This should be reported in Villager News

I find it interesting that the new mob, the allay, looks suspiciously similar to the vex. And guess what? Allay ONLY spawn in prisons in the mansions and outposts. That is definitely there for a reason.
The reason is to transform them into a vex

Its interesting how Evokers and Illusioners are the only ones with green eyes. Vindicators and Pillagers have blue eyes instead... interesting because the Villagers also have green eyes.
Vindicators and Pillagers can't use any form of magic, yet _Villagers_ can trade enchantments books when they have the librarian job. I wonder if that's a coincidence or not...
Nahh pillagers have green eyes too
It's only the vindicators that have blue eyes.
This makes me think about the zombies under the igloos. Maybe they first were exiled to the snowy biome and then relocated to the woods once they got sick of it and had enough other exiled villagers
but what about zombified piglings, zoglins, zombie villagers?

The Illagers real secret is that they are trying to bring Herobrine back, who keeps getting removed with each patch.
exactly
Maybe they might make more than herobrine maybe an entity more powerful like entity 303
If they’re trying to build another Steve, maybe they succeeded? They _made_ herobrine.
@Clark Dash Hou that would be interesting
That honestly is what MatPat should have said.
Theory: Evokers turn blue sheep red as an attempt to bar any other creature such as the player from replicating their experiments. No access to blue wool = no experiment. Also, the original way to make blue wool was from using lapis. Maybe the reason they can attempt these experiments is through the connection between the dye and magic?

also in the newest versions the totems look's more like a villager
I would call that a stretch, but, then again, this is a game with antropromorthic pigs and diant beasts made out of villagers.
Marcelo Petrucelli I think that they are linked to the villagers and the water temples, related to the Heart of the sea possibly.
You didn’t even mention that Illagers legitimately raise the dead in-game - vexes!!

I've been binging these episodes again. But maybe the lapis representation also indicates the use of souls. We commonly see souls represented as blue, and if we were to think about it, you'd reasonably need soul power to create something sentient. So maybe in this case, lapis represents souls and magic. Especially since now you can only find Alley in these mansions, you can imagine them sapping the soul energy from those cute little things.
But hey.. that's just a theory

How can this got so many like for a small period of time
This will almost definitely be lost but in addition to this theory, in the snow biomes, igloos can occasionally spawn with an underground lab. Inside there are two cages, one with a villager in it and one with a zombie villager. There is also a sign with arrows pointing both ways, obviously alluding to the fact that you can transform a zombie villager back into a normal villager and vice versa. These snow biomes are always separated from the rest of society. My theory is that after the creation of the zombies by the Illagers, several villagers decided to attempt to find ways to save those who had turned into zombies. It was their attempt at correcting the wrongdoings of the Illagers. Just a theory.
Edit: I know it’s cliche but really thanks! The fact that it’s on a game theory video makes this even better! I’m glad people liked my theory. I feel like the igloos have always been ignored but I feel like they are a critical piece. It has so many little details that can easily add to a story and yet I never see people mentioning them? I mean, they are literal secret labs hidden under igloos, there is defiantly something suspicious about that. Hopefully, we can help piece together this theory because I for one am invested in it!
These are from Witches. Witches are a whole nother Story!

Maybe the Illagers we’re trying to create a human (We know that they weren’t only trying to recreate Steve, as the ancient builders were around when Zombies were around, and Zombies could only spread if they killed others) because they saw that the ancient builders were a superior “species” to the Villagers/Illagers and wanted to imitate and control that power.
I know im late but i have something that confirms this theory. In the pillager outpoust they hold Iron Golems in cages, witch could then be transported to the Woodland Mansion and conduct experiments on them (Golems) etc. how they work

I know this doesn’t seem very possible but here’s a little theory: We all have noticed a few things differences in illagers and villagers. The two eyebrows and uncrossed hand can be explained easily with a pair of shears and a change in wardrobe, but the blue eyes and pale blue-ish skin don’t make much sense if they’re just exiled villagers. What If the use and over exposure of lapis lazuli caused their skin and eyes to become blue colored.
Thats actually frickin cool
And that also probably gave evokers their magical abilities.
Or they brought themselves back from the dead
What if the wool is the byproduct of their secret rituals. Starts with blocks of lapis after the magic is drained out there is only these wool like blocks left?
That makes a lot of sense. i reckon if villagers used diamonds or gold to trade then their eyes would change to match. how? maybe there is some magical aspect or maybe villagers choose mates based on how much their eye colour resembles their currency
What if totems of undying are really just storage batteries for souls, that they dip into to summon vexes, and do their other stuff. The reason they go on raids is to collect souls from the villagers.
As I’m listening to this, Playing Minecraft I managed to stumble into the woodland mansion Gun Powder room.😁

MATPAT! Here's a crazy theory for ya on the origins of skeletons. Your zombie disease video makes sense, but doesn't explain the skeletons. No disease is going to keep a pile of bones floating around. You'd need magic to do that. Here's a quote from the Mobestiary, " Some have proposed that skeletons are ancient adventurers raised from death by an evil sorcerer." In the game Minecraft Dungeons there is a group of ancient necromancers who live in a desert temple. They have blue glowing eyes (the color of souls) and when they summon skeletons, you can see small blue souls float away from the summoning area. They even shoot soul fire blasts! But why are they themselves undead? Maybe because when they (or some other humans) summoned the wither, they noticed that it doesn't attack undead things, and they turned themselves undead to protect themselves. I hope you read this!
Those “Unspeakable activities” they were doing was doing actually good trades
Maybe the “unspeakable activities” are uncrossing their arms.

RETURN OF THE KING
You could say Mojang Fights against Theorists and Fans...
People, never forget their lame Excuse that there is no Lore, that we make the Lore ourselves.
That statement debunks every Theory ever about this Franchise - which is extremly sad, yes, but that's just how Mojang wants it, apparently.
MOJANG SHOULD EITHER SAY THERE IS A LORE OR THERE IS NO LORE!!! I WANT CONFIRMATION!
A few things to notice now:
With the arrival of some of the more recent betas, the allay can be found in woodland mansions and pillager outposts, so it's pretty safe to assume the illagers are doing something to create them.
Keep looking and you'll find that, aside from enderman or mobs with weapons, villagers and allays are some of the only mobs that can hold items in their hand VISIBLY. Give an allay an item and it'll carry it. For a villager, hold an item they wants to trade and it'll give an offer back in their hands (e.g. hold an emerald and they'll hold enchanted books, bricks, redstone, etc.)
This next one is admittedly a bit weaker, but it's still worth noticing that allays have the unusually large heads relative to their body that are reserved for baby mobs. The only other mobs with this sort of attribute are villagers and illagers with taller heads compared to, say, a zombie with a much more cubed head (ignoring the strider since its entire body is a head with legs).
It's also worth noting that allays aren't considered "undead" mobs, since hitting them with a potion of healing doesn't harm them. Additionally, there are particles that resemble those of sculk censors and the warden that get emitted when a note block is played near them in Bedrock Edition. Whether these 2 things get changed or not since we're still in the betas remains unknown.
Last, but definitely not least, is the fact that the vex and the allay's names are contradictory to one another. Allay means "to diminish or put to rest fear, suspicion, or worry" while vex means to annoy or frustrate someone. Why this is the case, I still can't really say. Maybe it's the behaviour in that vexes are really annoying to kill since they can move through walls while allays are more calm and help the player out. I feel like maybe the allays name is meant to signify the death of a villager undergoing the transformation, since, in many beliefs, nothing clear worry or fear more than death itself or maybe the suspicion is cleared from others once the individual dies.
That's all I've been able to piece together. I hope someone (MatPat) is able to find the lore behind them!

With the new update I found out the allay where being captured by illagers. I don’t know why but this was kinda strange for me.
While this does make sense, you have to take in to consideration about how the Illagers would know about Steve’s existence. For all we know, the zombies had already existed and the Illagers were trying to make a zombie do their bidding, similar to how an Iron Golem protects villagers. Illagers would know about Iron Golems from being in villages before they were kicked out. Some evidence could be that at Pillager outposts, there are Iron Golems in cages and could be for Illagers to observe and test on.

To be fair, Jeb himself explicitly said there's lore there.
I thought not. It's not a story the Villagers would tell you. It's a Game Theory legend

I once spawned in a village next to a woodland mansion
The mansion was literally at the edge of the dark forest
It appears that in that town they didn't have the guts to kick them out
I think they did a similar thing with the Allays and turned them into Vexes.
Theory: the “unspeakable acts” done by the illigers were plucking their unibrows

Little thought I just had: Evokers have Totems of Undying yet can't use them. The only person that can use them is Steve. Since Mat is theorizing that the pillagers are trying to create Steve, maybe the two are connected in some way
Matpat, you should do a theory on the totem of undying about how they are made and maybe how they could’ve been made.
I’m surprised he didn’t talk about the igloos. if you’ve ever been to the snow plains biome sometimes you can find these random igloos (I sometimes find them around the villages). If you look underneath the carpet sometimes you just find grass blocks but other times you can find a trap door. going down the trap door you can find two prison cells. One with a villager and one with a zombie villager. There’s also a brewing stand and a chest in the chest you can find a golden apple in the brewing stand you can find a potion of weakness. if you splash the potion of weakness on the zombie villager and give it the Golden Apple it will start to be cured. It will eventually turn back into a regular villager. Maybe these igloos are evidence of illagers unspeakable acts.
Or someone trying to right the wrongs

Yes.
Not gonna lie this is a good idea for a new mob
Way back in middle school there was a Minecraft rumor going around. It claimed Steve was some sort of deity/god or a chosen one depending on who was telling the rumor.
The rumor goes: Steve wasn’t always human; he was once a deity (or a human chosen by deities to survive the human apocalypse) but he did something horrible, though, the outcome was not his intention. Steve was then left to wander the world and be resurrected after each death; his life was his eternal punishment.

Maybe the dark magic was trimming the unibrows and the villagers thought it was dark magic
I have a theory about the ravagers, if you go to pillager outpost there are sometimes iron golem in cages, notice the long arms on the ravager and sure they look a lot like villagers, but iron golem look just like the villagers, plus their metallic looking skin.
They might be trying to make Steve because he is the only being in this world to respawn, which might make them want to try to harness his power to allow them to respawn...
Notch would like to know your location
Maybe they made Steve?
Ender dragon: am I a joke to you?
Supreme Dalex Maybe they made Steve. That would explain the wool structures of the End portal and Steve’s urge to go to the end
Hmm, interesting thought, I didn’t even think of that! Maybe the whole thing is fake, maybe the illagers are just running a simulation on there own created being and the end is just something they made, the wool structure just being a diagram/ original version of it.
What is Minecraft’s lore?
Mojang: *scratching head
MatPat: Well it s obvious....
I'm piecing together the different theorys' you've made so far and putting together the timeline, I really feel like I'm onto something...
Also there is a video where there is a guy who spends 100 days in Minecraft as a evoker and it's kinda matches with this video.
You should've mentioned the shackles around the Beast's ankles, further proving the idea that the villagers were enslaved to make the Beasts.
Maybe if They were taken off they could become normal villagers or neutral maybe it's kind of like the shackles tighten around them or hurt them Man I just Feel badd for them they are probly just picking carrots before they got nabbed right I just feel badd for the squidward looking boys
Not sure if this has been said, but if the illagers were trying to create a better steve, couldn't that imply herobrine as part of the lore?
YOO OMG
I was thinking that to! it's seems so similar and it would make alot of sense
Didn't they also remove that "herobrine was removed" patch note? What if they add him as a boss like the wether or end dragon
@@LuisGonzalez-os9hi Wither*
@@LuisGonzalez-os9hi They do that as a running joke between them.
I love the serie it makes minecraft more interresting and also to way illagers got kicked out in another vid he sayd that villagers and builders were once the same but villagers wanted a simple life while the buliders didn't so they seperated and now in this vid he sayd illagers got kicked out bc they do evil experiments and if u think that kinda sounds like the builders so the villagers seperated again maybe?
You know it's a good video when matpat starts the episode off by saying "Dank"
illagers also decide to "break" their unibrows as a symbol of breaking away from villager traditions and culture, haha
Omg I had that thought too lol
@Daniel Heidenreich The problem is: most structures in Minecraft seem to be much older than Villages and Mansions not to mention ancient scraps in the Nether that are also far older.
Don’t click on the link, it’s a terrible rap song by people who try to get views by creating intrigue about a potentially homophobic video. Don’t fall for their trap please
@Daniel Heidenreich Strongholds, jungle temples, mineshafts, ocean ruins and shipwrecks definitely seem much older than other structures.
